- use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water or hydrogen peroxide to keep the area clean. Avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums. - eat a balanced diet and limit snacking between meals. Carbohydrates and sugars feed dental plaque. - try an oral irrigation device, commonly known as a" water pick, to clear debris from around the gum line. - you may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser.

You have problem, root of the teeth is affected, consult dentist, if infection is at the root then, root canal treatment is the answer for your problem.

Looking for a dental floss for everyday use? Here you go! The Nylon (or multifilament) floss made up of many strands of nylon and available in various flavours works excellently in removing plaque and debris from the mouth if used properly because it has a tendency of getting torn between teeth with tight contact points.

Bad breath can be reduced or prevented if you: - practice good oral hygiene. - Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to remove food debris and plaque. - Don't forget to brush the tongue, too. - Replace your toothbrush every 2 to 3 months or after an illness. - Use floss or an interdental cleaner to remove food particles and plaque between teeth once a day. - See your dentist regularly -- at least twice a year. He or she will conduct an oral exam and professional teeth cleaning and will be able to detect and treat periodontal disease, dry mouth, or other problems that may be the cause of bad mouth odor. - Drink lots of water. This will keep your mouth moist. - Chewing gum (preferably sugarless) stimulates the production of saliva, which helps wash away food particles and bacteria.

I did scaling 2 months before and have been using hex mouthwash since then (I used it for the first 15 days and then using it after a month. I could see that that tartar buildup has started a little as my lower four teeth are crowned. What should I do?

Mouth wash are an adjunctive to our daily cleaning chores - brushing, flossing etc. Be sure to Always rinse after eating and follow the rule of brushing twice a day. The soft deposit mostly get cleaned by brushing, if the deposit is hard you may then need professional cleaning. If your deposit is only occuring on your bridge then there are chances that you have food lodgement in that area. If your bridge is not faulty then make sure that your cleansing routine is thorough. Always use a floss in Bwn your bridge and adjacent natural tooth. Super floss in the area under your bridge if you have spacing and food lodgement there. U may need guidance of your doc initially to learn how to floss and super floss. Do visit your doc once in 6 months for professional cleaning. If you are sure that your cleaning regimen is fine then consult your doc to check fr faulty bridge.

Hello as a home remedy you can apply baking soda over your teeth or do baking soda in water mouthrinses. If the ulcer persists, you need to consult a physician and get your Vitamin B levels checked. If required take supplements for it.

I am 35 yrs old female, I have yellow teeth and bad odour in mouth. The odour comes when I don't eat for 2-3 hours. What to do?

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Hi yellow teeth can be because of lot of reasons. They may be some internal stains which can be treated by bleaching (whitening) or they may be external stains which can be removed by scaling (cleaning) of teeth. Bad odour may be because of lot of factors but the way you are describing it, please go for a cleaning of teeth and also increase your water consumption, as drying of mouth may give a bad odour.

My right incisor has broken slightly before 10 years. Whether I have to go for capping or any cement like filling is there. How much will it cost?

MDS - Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, BDS

Broken tooth can be restored using a composite filling or a crown (Metal ceramic, All ceramic or Zirconia) depending on the amount of tooth loss after fracture. But first, the dentist would clinically evaluate the condition of your teeth by looking if any colour changes are seen compared to the adjacent teeth (Discoloraion), take radiographs (x-ray) to evaluate the condition of the root and its surrounding structures, any pain while tapping on the tooth, exposure of the pulp, etc. If any pathology is seen in the radiograph, might even require a Root canal treatment before restoring the broken part. All these will be analysed and an appropriate treatment plan along with alternative options based on your requirement will be given by the dentist. I hope that I have clarified your query. Thank you.

Increase dietary intake of vitamin B, folic acid, iron and use of vitamin supplements etc under medical supervision if blood tests confirm low concentrations • institute topical antifungal therapy if fungal plaques noticed Mouth sores are common and rarely Cause complications. Most go away in about a week, but it’s important to monitor any mouth sores you develop. If you are concerned, or if the sore doesn’t seem to be healing, contact your dentist.

Dear lybrate-user, Opening up of gaps may take place after orthodontic treatment if you are not regular with your retainers, as prescribed by your orthodontist. It is best to consult your orthodontist again who may still be able to close the gaps using the retention plates you have with you. Post closing of gaps, your orthodontist may choose to pur a fixed retainer on the back side of your teeth to prevent opening up of gaps.

Dental Treatment is Now Painless - 5 Reasons Why!

Dental Treatment is Now Painless - 5 Reasons Why!

A majority of us would rather undergo any form of torture than go to a dentist. There is some great news for the ones who are silently enduring their dental pains. Read on as we reveal how to get rid of your teething troubles and that too painlessly!

#1- NO MORE INJECTIONS

If the fear of a needle is what’s keeping you away from the dental office, then think again as we can now numb you with as little as just a paste, spray or solution that doesn’t require an injection for its delivery. This revolutionary new technology takes away the prick of the needle and the pressure of the liquid expanding your lips and gums, instead, the solution enters by a digitally controlled dispenser going in drop by drop making it virtually undetectable.

#2- NO MORE DRILLING

The sound of the drill can be one of the most known triggers for creating fear and anxiety in the patient's mind. When coupled with its vibrations, heat and pressure the experience it creates oscillates from unpleasant to downright unbearable. If the drill were replaced by a beam of light that can clean up decay, even the most reluctant people would open up to the experience. Once patients experience the difference they not only get the most urgent and necessary treatments done but also opt for preventive treatments.

#3-  BLADE FREE SURGERIES

If you had to undergo a dental surgery earlier you may have had to worry about blood loss, pain, swelling, stitches not to mention the countless gory images that come to mind - but fortunately not anymore ! A surgery can be completely pain-free with little or no bleeding, Immediate recovery,no stitches and no swellings having you back at work or play almost instantly.

#4- QUICK & EASY ROOT CANALS

Root canal treatment as a procedure is probably more dreaded than even extraction or removal of a tooth. The pain and fear associated with this treatment are due to the primitive way that it used to be done in earlier. Automated technologies make root canals completely painless, precise, quick and smooth in as little as just one session.

#5- RELAXING MEDICATION

If these reasons do not sound convincing enough then pain relieving and controlling drugs before or during your appointment may be the solution for you.

Great strides have been made in the field of pharmacology with medication that can block or control pain centres in the brain.

We now choose from a variety of medication ranging from oral drugs to breathing gases through a mask, that can relieve your anxiety during the procedure to a point that you no longer perceive or detect pain.

The only thing left to fear now remains a nagging toothache in the back of your mouth that you have been ignoring.

As hard as it may seem to believe, truth is, that with the best technology, great ambience, and a host of distraction techniques - a dental appointment may actually turn out to be pleasant and save you a world of pain in the future!

Hi lybrate-user, a mouth ulcers is a painful sore inside the mouth, on the tongue, soft palate (the back portion of the roof of your mouth), or inside the cheeks. Sores in your mouth are round, white, or grey in color, with a red edge or border. The condition is usually becomes okay withing 7 days. But if it persists beyond that, or if multiple ulcers keep re-appearing, medical advice must be taken. In severe mouth ulcer attacks, you may also experience fever and physical sluggishness. Taking vitamin b12 supplements along with a suitable gel for pain is the best remedy.
