Dear lybrate-user, 3 times brushing routine should help in reducing bad breath. However if it is not helping there are chances that there may be decayed teeth in the mouth or infected gums which are causing the bad breath. You may see a dentist and get your mouth evaluated for any such cause. If this cause is eliminated, your bad breathe will also stop.

It seems you might have a deep cavity. In your front teeth. Kindly get an xray done to estimate the amount of damage. And you might have to get a root canal treatment done in the tooth.

Bad breath is associated with periodontal problem. It seems you might be having periodontal problem. C/as pyorrhea. You need to get rid of it. It needs aggressive therapy. You need to make a habit of rinsing your mouth everytime you eat something and brush regularly (once in the morning before meals and once at night after dinner, add a mouthwash for better oral hygiene. If the problem persist, it would be better to consult a dentist personally for a more appropriate diagnosis. And accordingly the treatment can be tailored as per your diagnosis.

I have oral submucous fibrosis. Few days ago I came to know this. I use to take gutka, cigarette, alcohol,weed regularly for 7 years. My mouth opening is about my three fingers presently. I am 5 8" now I leave all the stuff but sometimes bear and cigarette and taking homeopathy treatment. What should I used to do now. Do the bear will affect me or I have chance to cancer? please give me answer. I am too much confused.

Oral submucous fibrosis is a premalignant condition which affects the whole mouth. It is caused by consumption of supari and tobacco. The chances of getting oral cancer are almost 19 times if you have submucous fibrosis. The chances are increased in those who continue to consume tobacco, supari or alcohol. Even after quitting the habits, the increased risk of cancer persists for 10-15 years. Furthermore, submucous fibrosis is not known to revert back to normal. If one continues the habits, the chances of getting further fibrosis which leads to trismus and difficulty in mouth opening increases. If trismus occurs, Various treatments like jaw stretching exercises, lycopene, antioxidants, steroid and hyaluronidase injections to surgery with flaps and coronoidectomy have been tried with different levels of success. As you don't have decreased mouth opening at present, no intervention is advisable. Close Clinical observation 6 monthly by a head and neck surgeon or a surgical oncologist is advisable, so that they can detect cancer at an early curative stage. But definitely you have to quit smoking and alcohol as if not only increases the severity of the submucous fibrosis, but also increases the chances of cancer. Hydrogen peroxide s harmful for soft tissue like gums and cheek .has any one prescribed you to use this .more over it corrodes the enamel surface .some dentist use this in heavily stained teeth while scaling with complete isolation of soft tissue .please stop using it and consult a periodontist nearby.

Sir I am 23 years old and I am smoking from last 6 years I am not able to give up this habit I even tried anti smoking chewing gums but it did not help what should I do .please suggest some healthy alternatives for ciggerates that may help.

You must try and try again and again until you succeed. You have to quit cold turkey because the body and mind will torture you endlessly while attempting a reduction in smoking. The tobacco tar in cigarette smoke lines your lung with huge patches that make that portion dysfunctional. Your oxygen carrying capacity is jeopardized, and breathing is impinged on. But don’t be discouraged because it is not too late even now to reverse all the ill-effects of smoking. I don’t know what other organs could be damaged but do go for a thorough medical check-up to assess the effects of your abuse. Regarding improving your lungs, do a lot of aerobic exercise breathing through your nostrils only. Then there are a lot of deep breathing exercises in Yoga which you can learn too. Deep breathing cleanses your system and lungs and restores it to good health. Deep breathing uses the 80% of the lungs which are not normally used in normal breathing and even when exerting yourself. The greatest effect is in the lungs because this substance is processed through the respiratory system directly through the lung surface. When quitting, you must take one day at a time; though you must give up all smoking at once, and promptly. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and count the number of days you have given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. You must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if you fail one day, you must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. Your persistence will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact, these conditions can exist all through the day, unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing the habit. The information is really scary but true and you must remind yourself about this every day. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heartbeat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact, it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chew gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine gums and nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. At least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here’s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world – you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest. You could also join twitter2quit program and enjoy its success to give up smoking.

What happened I don't know, I am getting bad smell from my mouth after brushing. It is since five years, I am suffering with this and I am unable to speak others also due to this. Kindly suggest right solution to avoid this problem.

Bad breath can be reduced or prevented if you: practice good oral hygiene. Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to remove food debris and plaque. Don't forget to brush the tongue, too. Replace your toothbrush every 2 to 3 months or after an illness. Use floss or an interdental cleaner to remove food particles and plaque between teeth once a day. See your dentist regularly -- at least twice a year. He or she will conduct an oral exam and professional teeth cleaning and will be able to detect and treat periodontal disease, dry mouth, or other problems that may be the cause of bad mouth odor. Drink lots of water. This will keep your mouth moist. Chewing gum (preferably sugarless) stimulates the production of saliva, which helps wash away food particles and bacteria.

Nope. Not required. Start exercising and jogging. Once you become active your eating speed will change.

Day before yesterday I went to the doctor for some tongue issue, she gave me hexigel and said me I have tongue ulcer, now the upper surface of my tongue had become little brown, is it anything related to hexigel, if not then why it became brown.

The colour turning to brown is a part of infection in the ulcer adn it will go once the ulcer heals with this hexigel.
