I will start it from beginning, In my teenage there was a stress and tension in my life for very long time and that was serious stress and tension, I do not know can I call that depression or not. Only doctors can say but that was long time of stress, Tension, disappointment ,inferiority complex and that situation of my life made me anxious and abnormally very aggressive and violent. However I got out from that situation and tension to some extent not totally. I faced very very weird type mental tension at very young age, At 16, 17,18. however I got out from that tension to some extent not totally, I turned 19, And left my little home town for studies in bangalore, There in bangalore I was happy to be there, New friends, New environment and big city bangalore. I was thinking of enjoy all this, although I was anxious but not that much. I felt anxiety and nervousness in social situations in college and hostels but that was under my control I was able to enjoy things. New life, I started smoking and drinking with my new friends and became heavy chain smoker, After some month I started feeling very very strong anxiety and social phobia. I stopped going college meeting friends other than room mates. I developed social anxiety disorder, GAD, Bipolar and many more, My life became hell. But that time I did not know that I am having a mental disorder, I did not understand why I became like this, I never think of going to doctor for any mental problem. I thought log kya kahenge ki kya mai pagal ho gaya hu. My life stopped, Study ruined, Very few friends, No girl friend very poor life with lots of expectations from life. I could do anything. I lost everything studies, Girls I loved, Money,Very precious time of life. But I did not share about my mental disorders with anyone. But some of my friends had doubt of my metal health. After struggling this kind of hellish life for seven years I thought of going to an Ayurveda doctor for this mental disorder, I thought herbal Ayurveda treatment would be good for mental disorders. I was benefited by Ayurveda medicines. I thought of quitting smoking so that I can adopt healthy lifestyle so that medicines would be more effective. After more than six months of taking medicine I realized that I did not need any medicine I just need to quit smoking drinking and a healthy lifestyle. All my friends smoke and drink but they are mentally healthy at all. I never thought smoking will cause me that much serious mental disorders. I quit it more than year ago. Now I am facing thing BRAIN FOG. It feels something opposite state of anxiety and it just refused to go. I think anti anxiety ayurvedic medicines caused me something like brain fog and it just refused to go. I think it is opposite state of anxiety so I again started cigarette and 8 Cups coffee in a day so that I can get rid of this brain fog and it seems like its working after lots of coffee I felt it going. I have lost my love I lost Everything in my life because I was mentally ill everybody was enjoying life and I was hiding in a room, Extreme extreme extreme level of social phobia. I think of suicide everyday. My life on chaos. Now I just want to know how to end this brain fog and how stay mentally healthy at all. Please suggest me right way.

I am addicted for tobacco from last 3 year. I want to quit it. How can I leave tobacco. Pls suggest me.

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology
Psychologist, Palakkad
Dear lybrate-user, Welcome to Lybrate. Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. Nicotine and other chemicals can cause cancer of different types and areas. Throat cancer, mouth cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer and brain problems can result. Over and above smoking may also increase the risk factor of heart attack and brain stroke. Please quit smoking. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. If you’re ready to stop smoking and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from nicotine addiction and abuse abuse—no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating nicotine addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of smoking. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan and cooperate with your psychiatrist / psychologist. Mind power building therapy, motivation therapy etc should help you doing so. Take care.

Everday evening I am feeling too depressed and I don' t know how to mean it and even my mind gets blank is there any solution for this problem please in from me it' s really like being in hell

Hypnotherapist, DCS, BSIC, Advanced Trainee of Transactional Analysis, Advanced Skills in Counselling
Psychologist,
Please meet a psychiatrist and a professional counsellor who will help you overcome your feelings of depression and blankness. It can be scary for some people and often need external support initially to help them on the path to recovery. What you can do meanwhile is that indulge in any activity which makes you happy and fulfilled and is meaningful and closer to your dreams of your future. Also do activities that relax you mentally and physically like yoga, meditation, gym, walking, hobbies etc. Keep in the company of cheerful and progressive people, who might help you to look at the brighter side of life and also look at problems objectively and a way to learn and grow in life rather than as a hurdle in your happiness. Take care of your diet, sleep, water intake as they play a big role in depression. Look for positive meaning in anything that has not worked out for you in your life. Every experience has a good and bad side to it. You need to see both and remember that in life there will be ups and downs and it' ll not be a smooth flowing life always. Take care. You can also see a homeopath or an ayurvedic doctor along with a counsellor.

Hi sir this is jagadish I have the problem to loss the short memory loss. Eg. I read, hear some thing after some time I forgot that and do another. What is reason and who to. Phase that problem.

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi, Take homoeopathic medicine for increasing memory - Anacardium 200/ once daily. Management: -Meditate for at least 15 to 30 minutes each day physically changes your brain, making you less anxious, and more rational and empathetic. -Besides increasing your physical strength and flexibility, yoga changes your brain. Research suggests that in addition to reducing stress, anxiety, and depression, yoga protects the brain from shrinking with age. -Exercise daily as it would can help offset the cognitive decline brought on by aging and increasingly sedentary lifestyles. -Get enough sleep. On average, adults need between 7.5 and 9 hours of sleep each night. When you aren’t getting enough sleep, it affects your brain’s ability to do this, and your memory suffers. -Spend time with people whose company you enjoy, and who make you feel like the best version of you. -laughter can improve short-term memory in older adults. -Cutting down on your use of technology (i. E. Sitting in front of your computer, phone, or tablet) for even 30 minutes can improve your brain health and help you think more deeply.

Am smoking person. Am smoking past 10 years. Now I want to stop the smoking habit. Advice me.

M.Phill
Psychologist, Chennai
Start your stop smoking plan with start s- set a quit date: choose a date within the next 2 weeks, so you have enough time to prepare without losing your motivation to quit, if you mainly smoke at work, quit on the weekend, so you have few days to adjust to the change. T- tell family, friends and co-workers that you plan to quit: let your friends and family in on your plan to quit smoking and tell them you need their support and encouragement to stop. Look for a quit buddy who wants to stop smoking as well. You can help each other get through the rough times. A- anticipate and plan for the challenges you'll face while quitting: most people who begin smoking again do so within the first 3 months. You can help yourself make it through by preparing ahead for common challenges, such as nicotine withdrawal and cigratte cravings. R- remove cigrattes & other products from your home, car and work: throw away all of your cigarettes, lighter, ashtrays and matches. Wash your clothes and freshen up anything that smells like smoke. T- talk to your doctor about getting help to quit: your doctor can prescribe medication to help with withdrawal.

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Brain fag needs to be diagnosed as a disease condition. Brain fag symptoms includes somatic, sleep-related and cognitive complaints, head and neck pains, difficulty in concentrating and retaining information, and eye pain. Memory and mind power depends on three aspects. Understanding, retention and recollection. Recollection is easy if your retention is proper and flawless. Retention is possible when you are able understand what you read or learn. To understand you should have concentration. Concentration comes from effective learning techniques based on creative and active learning. Physical exercise, outdoor games, entertainment, socializing coupled with systematic learning improves your memory and mind power. Vegetables, fruits and nuts are perfect for memory. Brain games like sudoku and jigsaw puzzles helps too. Avocados, Beetroots, Blueberries, Broccoli. Celery, Coconut Oil, Dark Chocolate etc are good for improving concentration and memory. I suggest online education counseling. Take care.

First of all stop smoking immediately. Try to do hot water gargles with 5 gram taatri in it. Taatri is available easily in general stores. It is a hindi word and it is used as medicine to cure all throat problems. At night before sleeping, put half teaspoon turmeric in luke warm water and drink it. The symptoms with you are telling may be a throat cancer, I am not sure because it is just a symptom but you have to be cautious and stop smoking immediately. Start doing pranayama in morning. If you don't have kidney stones or gallbladder stones then you can start eating 1 gram of limestone in hindi it means choona. Choona will cure all the damages done by smoking or drinking.

Improving your memory is easier than it sounds. Most of think of our memory as something static and unchanging. You can improve simply by practicing a few tried and true memory building exercises. Physical exercise and engaging in novel brain-stimulating activities such as the crossword puzzle or Sudoku are two proven methods for helping keep your brain healthy. Remember, a healthy body is a healthy brain. Eating right and keeping stress at bay helps not only your mind focus on new information, but also is good for your body too. Getting a good night’s sleep every night is important as well. You need to focus on what you’re doing and the information you’re looking to encode more strongly in your brain. These tips will help you do just that: 1.Focus on it. So many people get caught up in multi-tasking, that we often fail to do the one thing that will almost always improve your memory — paying attention to the task at hand. This is important, because your brain needs time to encode the information properly. If it never makes it into your memory, you won’t be able to recall it later. If you need to memorize something, quit multitasking. 2.Smell, touch, taste, hear and see it. The more senses you involve when you need to encode memory, usually the more strong a memory it becomes. 3.Repeat it. One reason people who want to memorize something repeat it over and over again is because repetition seems to work for most people. 4.Chunk it. Divide the large amount of information into smaller chunks, and then focus on memorizing those chunks as individual pieces. 5.Organize it. Our brains like organization of information. By carefully organizing what it is you have to memorize, you’re helping your brain better encode the information in the first place. 6.Use mnemonic devices. They help us remember more complicated pieces of information through imagery, acronyms, rhyme or song. 7.Learn it the way that works for you. People often get caught up in thinking there’s a “one size fits all” learning style for memorizing new material. That’s simply not the case - different people prefer different methods for taking in new information. Use the style that works for you, even if it’s not the way most people study or try and learn new information. For instance, some people like to write things down when they’re learning something new. Others may benefit more from recording what they’re hearing, and going back to take more detailed notes later on at their own leisure. 8.Connect the dots. When we learn, we often forget to try and make associations until later on. However, research has shown that memory can be stronger when you try and make the associations when you first take in the information. For instance, think about how two things are related, and the memory for both will be enhanced. Connect new information to existing information or experiences in your mind.

You can try natural depression control methods or else you need antidepressants .10 Natural Depression Treatments Being depressed can make you feel helpless. But Along with therapy and sometimes medication, there's a lot you can do on your own to fight back. Changing your behaviour – your physical work, lifestyle, and even your way of thinking -- are all natural depression treatments .these tips can help you feel better -- starting right now. 1. Get in a routine. If you’re depressed, you need a routine depression can strip away the structure from your life. One day melts into the next. Setting a gentle daily schedule can help you get back on track. 2. When you're depressed, you may feel like you can't accomplish anything. That makes you feel worse about yourself. To push back, set daily goals for yourself. "Start very small,” "Make your goal something that you can succeed at, like doing the dishes every other day. As you start to feel better, you can add more challenging daily goals. 3. Exercise- It temporarily boosts feel-good chemicals called endorphins. It may also have long-term benefits for people. Regular exercise seems to encourage the brain to rewire itself in positive ways. How much exercise do you need? You don’t need to run marathons to get a benefit. Just walking a few times a week can help. 4. Eat healthy. There is no magic / special; diet that corrects depression. It's a good idea to watch what you eat, though. If depression tends to make you overeat, getting in control of your eating will help you feel better. Although nothing is definitive, there’s evidence that foods with omega-3 fatty acids (such as fish) and folic acid (such as spinach) could help ease depression. 5. Get enough sleep. Depression can make it hard to get enough sleep and can make depression worse. What can you do? Start by making some changes to your lifestyle. Go to bed and get up at the same time every day. Try not to nap. Take all the distractions out of your bedroom -- no computer and no TV. In time, you may find your sleep improves. 6. Take on responsibilities. When you’re depressed, you may want to pull back from life and give up your responsibilities at home and at work. Staying involved and having daily responsibilities can work as a natural depression treatment. They ground you and give you a sense of accomplishment. If you're not up to full-time school or work, that’s fine. Think about part-time. If that seems like too much, consider volunteer work. 7. Challenge negative thoughts. In your fight against depression, a lot of the work is mental -- changing how you think. When you're depressed, you leap to the worst possible conclusions. You might feel like no one likes you, but is there real evidence for that? You might feel like the most worthless person on the planet, but is that really likely? It takes practice, but in time you can beat back those negative thoughts before they get out of control. 8. Check with your doctor before using supplements. "There's promising evidence for certain supplements for depression, Those include fish oil, folic acid. Always check with your doctor before starting any supplement, especially if you’re already taking medications 9. Do something new. When you’re depressed, you’re in a rut. Push yourself to do something different. Go to a museum. Pick up a used book and read it on a park bench. Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Take a language class. "When we challenge ourselves to do something different, there are chemical changes in the brain, "Trying something new alters the levels of [the brain chemical] dopamine, which is associated with pleasure, enjoyment, and learning. 10. Try to have fun. If you’re depressed, make time for things you enjoy. What if nothing seems fun anymore? "That's just a symptom of depression, You have to keep trying anyway. As strange as it might sound, you have to work at having fun. Plan things you used to enjoy, even if they feel like a chore. Keep going to the movies. Keep going out with friends for dinner. When you're depressed, you can lose the knack for enjoying life, you have to relearn how to do it. In time, fun things really will feel fun again.
