Hi I am taking bupron sr 150 and cognisules for depression. Does it have any side effect? how long I need to take this medicine?

DNB (PSYCHIATRY), DPM, MBBS,
Psychiatrist, Gurgaon
Bupropion can cause rise in blood pressure, so you need to monitor your bp. In higher doses or in those individuals who have history of fits, it can precipitate fits. Generally duration of treatment during first episode of depression is 6months but it can vary.

Dear Lybrate user, Welcome to Lybrate. Alcohol addiction also comes under abuse and addiction. If you’re ready to stop the substance and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from addiction and abuse —no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of addiction. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan. Take care.

How to gain memory power. I was week in memory power, sometimes I forget that what I have done before 5 min ,i need a solution for my problem.

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Memory and mind power depends on three aspects. Understanding, retention and recollection. Recollection is easy if your retention is proper and flawless. Retention is possible when you are able understand what you read or learn. To understand you should have concentration. Concentration comes from effective learning techniques based on creative and active learning. Physical exercise, outdoor games, entertainment, socializing coupled with systematic learning improves your memory and mind power. Vegetables, fruits and nuts are perfect for memory. Brain games like sudoku and jigsaw puzzles helps too. Avocados, Beetroots, Blueberries, Broccoli. Celery, Coconut Oil, Dark Chocolate etc are good for improving concentration and memory. I suggest online education counseling. Take care.

Dear , the duty of your mind is to think. You cannot control your mind's thinking. But certainly you can divert your thinking. You can make your mind to be always positive by engaging in creative activities, hobbies, games and passionate towards whatever you do. Thereby you can reduce your stress and tension also. Once you can do this, loss of proper sleep and stress also can be made normal. Please provide me with more information and post a private question. I will help you with this. Take care.

There is no connection between eye twitching and something bad happening. Its just correlation sometimes and correlation is not causation.

Marlboro Cigarette or beedi? Which is less harmful? I smoke a filtered bidi sometimes. But smoking but makes me feel much comforting than cigarette. And because of but I smoke less I think. Please suggest something.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Less or more, smoking is just bad. The beedi is more harmful whether with filter or not. The effect of nicotine is act a mood-modifier and so you will feel comforting feelings whenever you smoke: it peps you up when you feel low, and it calms you down when you feel worked up. But these are all temporary. Even when you are depressed it helps to perk you up but later when the effect wears off, you will get more depressed and will need more cigarettes. It is just a trap and that it why it is addictive too. Please give it up now and do not entertain any kind of reasoning or excuses to continue the habit.

I think you are feeling stuck and you are feeling helpless and hopeless. I do not think that you have any mental disorder. You said you are in big trouble. By eating rat poison, by will be in bigger trouble. Suicidal attempt will not solve your problem. Instead, please discuss your troubles with someone you trust. You need to find support from your relatives or friends. If that is not possible please talk to a counsellor.

Hi. I can understand your distress. Having severe anxiety is very incapacitating. Having this much anxiety usually results from imbalance of chemicals (neurotransmitters) in brain. As a result, our autonomic system is activated to more than usual level, which produces these symptoms. And these are not fully under our control and require some medication, at least initially, to control them. So, you should consult a psychiatrist who will help you understand your problem after thorough check up (as we need to rule out other physical causes of anxiety as well). We see a marked improvement in people having such symptoms and overall functioning with adequate treatment. So do not delay treatment!

Hello doctor I am a very introvert person and quiet also. I generally keep most of my emotions to myself. In my class also I have many things (doubts) to ask but I am unable to do so as I am introvert and self conscious ,unconfident and I barely talk to anyone. I do not feel like interacting with anyone but when I want to talk to somebody my introvertness stops me. Nowadays, it bothers me alot as I am not able to express myself and people around me thinks that I am a timid and unfriendly person. And whenever anyone says that I am a quiet person it hurts me badly .because I know earlier I wasn't a quiet and dull kind of girl but for some years I hv became so. People take me for granted they come to me when they need help. Currently I do not have any friends. Also I hv developed a negative mindset I find negativity in everything . And I feel sad for no reason. And I get easily affected by what people say. I am always sad and always think negative about myself and feels people around me do not like me and will target me & make fun of me that stops me from going out . I get worried easily on small day to day things. please suggest me what should I do to change myself and improve my personality & thinking .

You are indeed unique and there is no one who is going to be like you, ever! You have a problem of self-acceptance, and if I may venture to say may be a rejection issue. This latter may have happened due to an actual rejection which you may have experienced very early in your life. The solution to this is a matter of genuine self-acceptance or self-love. I am not talking about narcissism: this is a genuine love of yourself. It is not based on your appearance alone. You must work on developing yourself in five areas: the physical fitness, emotional fitness, intellectual fitness, social fitness and spiritual fitness. I would also suggest you attend a good personality development program, a speech training course (I suggest the Toastmasters Club), a conversation and elocution course, and to do a personal grooming course too. Education is very good to boost self-confidence, and together with that if you develop socializing skills, you will make it big. Meet with a counselor and ask to be trained in handling emotions, and that will just take you places. Read a lot and meet lots of people, even if you feel too conscious: in time you will get out of this backwardness very well. Do physical fitness exercises regularly. Ultimately, if you believe in God, you will know that you are so precious to Him that no one else’s opinion or acceptance is as important as His. Your life will change phenomenally!

I' m a 47 yrs male suffering from depression since last 10yrs & taking alcohol rarely but alprax-0. 5daily. Kindly suggest whether I should continue or not?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
I don? t know when you went for your last review. If you have not gone for a review, please do so immediately. Alcohol is certainly not recommended with this medicine. About continuing with this medication you must talk to your doctor but if you wish to discontinue always do so only under medical advice. It is also very important to attend some counseling sessions too. It is the combination of the two that will give you the best results. If you have done these two in combination for a reasonable length of time, then you may discuss the continuance of the medication.

Hello, there are few yoga poses which helps in calming your mind and relieves stress, but first learn these under a qualified yoga-teacher as many poses are prohibited in certain diseases or medical conditions! exercises: practice shavasana or corpse pose as it looks like a dead body. If practiced correctly and with full efforts, can relax every body part, relaxing not only the body but also the mind: spread the legs one to two feet apart, the toes are turned outwards, the heels facing each other, a comfortable distance apart. Bring the arms a little away from the body, palms turned upward. Relax the neck and allow it to turn to the side if it is more comfortable. Close the eyes and focus the attention on the body, breathing normally. Begin focusing each body part and relaxing it, then moving on. Keep the mind focused on relaxation, the breath should be normal. Relax the whole body. (the mind and body are deeply connected. If the mind is occupied by thoughts and worries then the shavasana will be unsuccessful. Therefore one has to acquire the stability of the mind along with the stability of the body.) anuloma involves inhaling through both nostrils together and exhaling each breath alternately between the left and right nostrils. The thumb of the right hand is used to manipulate the right nostril, while the pinky and ring finger are used to control the left nostril. There are many other poses of yoga like balasan, setu bandha sarvangasan, uttanasan, garudasan, savasana, triconasana, viprita karani, marjaryasana, dhyana, bhujangasana, anulom-vilum, pranayam, etc. Another stress-buster can be getting involved in any of your hobbies (may be a childhood hobby which you used to enjoy a lot!) - dancing, singing, painting, listening to soothing music, playing musical instruments, etc. (believe me, you would really enjoy doing this alone as well or may be with your friends, kids). Medication: take homoeopathic medication - schwabe's bacopa monierri 1x/ thrice daily and kali phos. 6x/ once at night - take them for 4 weeks.

Hello lybrate-user, you can try these- 1. Getting restful and uninterrupted night-time sleep (7-8 hours) 2. Don't over sleep (more than 8 hours) 3. Wear a sunscreen under the eyes when stepping out in the sun. 4. Use a pair of sunglasses and a concealer, if required. 5. Get iron and protein rich diet. 6. If blood test indicates iron deficiency take iron suppliments with the advise of your general physician. 7. Do destressing exercises like mindfulness meditation or yoga. I hope this helps you.

Hello! to be specific do not label yourself with diagnosis like depression, anxiety or panic got off the internet. Go for a proper evaluation by a psychiatrist and its quite possible that all your complaints may be part of a single entity. And yes it can be stress related and it can be taken care of very well by experienced hands.
