Less Libido in Females - Causes Behind it!

Less Libido in Females - Causes Behind it!

Loss of sexual desire is more common in women than in men. As many as 3 in 10 women have reduced or limited sexual interest in any kind of sexual activity. While the medical term for this problem is Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD), it is generally understood as a loss of libido.

Following are the causes of less libido in females:

1. Hormonal Disorders:

  • Dryness of the vagina and pain during sexual intercourse may affect sexual drive both mentally and physically.
  • After menopause, drop in the count of testosterone hormone also affects sexual drive which can result in loss of libido.
  • With advancing age, the level of androgens decrease, and hence results in a lack of sexual desire.

2. Lifestyle Disorders:

  • In some of the cases, lack of emotional support in a relationship plays a significant role in the loss of libido. Post baby 'coolness' may also act as a driving force for loss in libido.
  • In today's era, changing lifestyle is drastically affecting our lives. Following an unhealthy lifestyle may result in increased weight that may affect self-image, and indirectly may also affect the sexual desire.
  • Stress and job, family pressure and exhaustion may also influence sexual desire of a woman.

3. Medical Disorders:

  • There are conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids and thyroid disorders that may have a negative impact on the sexual drive of a woman.
  • Certain medicines such as antidepressants, oral contraceptives, and medicines that lower blood pressure may also negatively impact the sexual drive in women.

4. Psychological factors:

  • Increasing cases of depression, anxiety, frustration, stress is also an important cause of loss of libido in the contemporary society.
  • After childbirth, new moms tend to suffer from lack of sleep, insufficient lubrication of the vagina and exhaustion, which may affect her sexual desire. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a sexologist.

This can be due to infection so better visit a doctor for examination. Also if periods are missed then get urine pregnancy test done.

I want to know about ,how effective a condom is? Is this completely safe for unwanted pregnancy?

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology
Psychologist, Palakkad
Dear user. I can understand. Condom is safe, effective and economical method to prevent unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases and HIV. In majority of the cases condom, if used, prevents unwanted pregnancy. Sometimes, condom breaks. This happens due to rough sex. Therefore avoid rough sex with condom. Take care.

Done one cycle of IVF and result was negative. Current AMH is 1.88 and age is 31. Pls suggest whether we should go for more IVF cycles or donor egg treatment directly AND will there will be any side effects on body because of medicines/injections in IVF cycle. Pls suggest practical solutions. Thank you.

MBBS, MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology
IVF Specialist, Delhi
Hi, the chance of success in an ivf cycle is only 40 to 50 % and the amh is also fine that is it is not too low so one the basis of amh you need not go for donor eggs, instead try again.

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology - Ireland, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, DGO, MBBS

PCOS patients have difficulty in ovulation, so some drugs are given for ovulation induction, usg monitoring is done to see for the size and growth of follicles. U also need to undergo some blood investigation to asses for your hormonal status and also your husband semen sample needs to be checked. Depending on investigation further treatment can be planned.

What to Eat When Pregnant and Don't Feel Well
During pregnancy you may have morning sickness, diarrhea, or constipation. You may find it hard to keep foods down, or you may feel too sick to even eat at all. Here are some suggestions:

Morning sickness: eat crackers, cereal, or pretzels before getting out of bed; eat small, frequent meals throughout the day; avoid fatty, fried, spicy, and greasy foods.

Constipation: eat more fresh fruit and vegetables. Also, drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day.

Diarrhea: eat more foods that contain pectin and gums (two types of dietary fiber) to help absorb excess water. Examples of these foods are applesauce, bananas, white rice, oatmeal, and refined wheat bread.

Heartburn: eat small, frequent meals throughout the day; try drinking milk before eating; and limit caffeinated foods and beverages, citric beverages, and spicy foods.

Some cramp is always normal but if excessive, needs treatment. I always ask patients to check urine pregnancy test after 10 days of iui.

Subsequently my periods are came on 9-7-2016 but very less bleeding was going and only for 1 and 1/2 days my periods are gone. Kindly guide me I am pregnant because I try for pregnancy from last one year.

As your preg test is negative &you've had withdrawal bleeding chances of pregnancy is negligible. Still you can get serum b-hcg test done for confirmation. If negative consult a gynaecplogist and get your hormonal ptofile done.

if you would not hv done sex in 22 then it was very clear that no chance of pregnancy.. sex on 22 may create issue if unprotected but then again due to pill your cycle will be disturbed..so ine thing is disturbed cycle. but untill you explain more on 22nd sex ..cant conmment on chances... I would say chances arr low but not zero. consult for further discussion.
