The word depressed is a common everyday word. People might say" i'm depressed" when in fact they mean" i'm fed up because i've had a row, or failed an exam, or lost my job" etc. These ups and downs of life are common and normal. Most people recover quite quickly. With true depression, you have a low mood and other symptoms each day for at least two weeks, you seem to ne having severe depression from what you say. Consult a psychiatrist and get evaluated and remedy. All the best.

Dear lybrate-user, Welcome to Lybrate. If your friend is ready to stop the substance and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from addiction and abuse —no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of addiction. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan. Take care.

Is there any treatment for diabetic retinopathy and vitreous hemorrhage in Ayurveda. Pls tell m m very depressed by this. Don't wnt surgery.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. Lybrate-user, diabetic retinopathy is a serious complication of diabetes. Particularly occurs if blood sugar level is not well controlled for a long time. Hyperglycemia affects small blood vessels of retina and blocks them creating lack of oxygen. This leads to development of new blood vessels which are fragile and bleed blocking the vision or shrivel and cause detachment of retina. Only treatment for this is laser therapy, or certain injections in to the eye or if needed surgery (vitriectomy). In other medical practices there is no treatment for this problem. Strict blood glucose control is also very essential part of the treatment. Please go through appropriate treatment. Getting depressed is not going to benefit. Thanks.

I can't concentrate In a job. Mind is going other matters. I'm too worried in this problem.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
You are probably under some stress that you are not aware of. If you are distracted by this, you will suffer problems of concentration. If the problem is severe you must meet with a counselor and deal with that. The stress that you feel is not dependent on the stressor i. E. The work. It is entirely dependent on your perception of stress. Life is difficult no doubt, as a general rule, but what we do adds to the stress in our response. We add to the stress of life instead of reducing it or learning to deal with it. Many of us follow a policy of avoidance. We cannot do that all of our lives. So the first thing to do is to change your perception. For example, look at it as a challenge that you would like to meet with a positive outlook. See everything as a gift from God to perform as though you are doing it for Him. God never gives us work to do beyond our capacity. You must also build a good constitution mentally, emotionally and physically to combat stress. Eat healthily, sleep well, and exercise regularly. Talk about your emotions regularly to a good friend every day. Learn stress management techniques. Do Yoga and meditation. Pray every day to God to give you the strength, and offer your work as a prayer to Him – you will give your best and you will feel so satisfied when you do it well. You must also talk to your superior that the workload is getting beyond your means and that you need more personnel to support you. Finally, learn to delegate much or some of your work to subordinates. If you do not trust, you will find it difficult to delegate.

I can't control my anger. And i'm also suffering some mental distortion. Which medicine should I use for my mental stability and relaxation?

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology
Psychologist, Palakkad
Dear, anger and aggression are emotions. Anger comes when you become irritated. Irritation happens when you don't like something, or when something is repeated. As anger is an emotion, it should be vent out. You should be able to throw anger out instead of controlling it. But more perfect will be, know the frustrating situations and stop being emotional. If practiced properly, you will not get irritated at those circumstances at all. Those techniques are much easier to understand. Regarding your mental distortion, I need more information. Please post a private question with all the details and I shall help you with those tips and tricks. Take care.

This is a psychological problem. I have performed poorly in class 12 examinations. I am very much depressed about it. I know its my fault. My family life is complicated. I could not sleep at nights due to frustration but still I try to be strong and think positive and move forward in life. But the main problem is my parents are always torturing and bullying me whenever they are getting the chance. I have had mental breakdowns but still they will not understand. I cannot breathe freely. They are always harassing me. I have tried to make them understand my problems but they are not interested. I have no one to share my sorrows and griefs and day by day I am breaking down mentally. I just have no idea what to do. All my efforts to make my parents understand have failed. My self confidence is now down to negative values due to this onslaught of my parents. Please try to understand. I really tried everything I could.

Dear lybrate-user. Welcome to lybrate. You are disappointed, distressed and lack interest in life. I do not know much about your parents and their attitude and behavior. Therefore I cannot comment on them. I can talk to you. I think you should change your attitude. Suppose, you are getting employed and your boss is always harassing and bullying you, what will you do? apply that situation here. Change your attitude. Take care.

We found a good groom for my sister. In every aspect he is good and healthy. He is 29 and till now don't have any symptoms of schizophrenia. But his mother suffers from schizophrenia. She has been suffering from this problem for past 12-13 years. Since schizophrenia is a genetic problem is it advisable to marry him. What are the chances that it will pass onto the next generation?

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Its upto you to decide after seeing the benefits outweigh the risks and remember even your sister might be having some negative points which the opponents might be thinking and its upto your sister to decide whether she will be able to live with her mom in law and future of the groom no one has seen and so you as a brother decide accordingly.

Dear lybrate user. You cannot marry all three or two at the same time. In that c case you have to decide to whom you marry. Be sensible. You should have the maturity to select the right girl and to make the other girl understand why you did so. I suggest online counseling. Take care.

My mother aged 78 years. Is under depression and treatment also. She is an educated lady and understands every thing but feels loneliness (specifically after death of my father in 2013). Every morning she asks questions like " what should I do, I know everybody is with me but mera man nahi lagta" She sometimes weeps or stays on her bed with sadness. I need someone who talk to her. Regards

Dear, Don't worry. That is your mother's normal behavior. That is actually helping her to tide over her inside worries. She is trying to open her mind in front of you and you should be a good listener to her. Just help her to open her mind, slowly guide her and don't try to advise her. Slowly and steadily she will adjust herself with the situation. Take care.

Occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. You might feel anxious when faced with a problem at work, before taking a test, or making an important decision. Anxiety disorders involve more than temporary worry or fear. For a person with an anxiety disorder, the anxiety does not go away and can get worse over time. These feelings can interfere with daily activities such as job performance, school work, and relationships. There are a variety of anxiety disorders. Collectively they are among the most common mental disorders. Types of Anxiety Disorders There are three types of anxiety disorders discussed on this website: Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) Panic Disorder Social Anxiety Disorder (Social Phobia) Signs and Symptoms Unlike the relatively mild, brief anxiety caused by a specific event (such as speaking in public or a first date), severe anxiety that lasts at least six months is generally considered to be problem that might benefit from evaluation and treatment. Each anxiety disorder has different symptoms, but all the symptoms cluster around excessive, irrational fear and dread. Anxiety disorders commonly occur along with other mental or physical illnesses, including alcohol or substance abuse, which may mask anxiety symptoms or make them worse. In some cases, these other problems need to be treated before a person can respond well to treatment for anxiety. While some symptoms, such as fear and worry, occur in all anxiety disorders, each disorder also has distinctive symptoms. For more information, visit: Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) Panic Disorder Social Anxiety Disorder (Social Phobia) Diagnosis and Treatment Anxiety disorders are treatable. If you think you have an anxiety disorder, talk to your doctor. Sometimes a physical evaluation is advisable to determine whether a person’s anxiety is associated with a physical illness. If anxiety is diagnosed, the pattern of co-occurring symptoms should be identified, as well as any coexisting conditions, such as depression or substance abuse. Sometimes alcoholism, depression, or other coexisting conditions have such a strong effect on the individual that treating the anxiety should wait until the coexisting conditions are brought under control. With proper treatment, many people with anxiety disorders can lead normal, fulfilling lives. If your doctor thinks you may have an anxiety disorder, the next step is usually seeing a mental health professional. It is advisable to seek help from professionals who have particular expertise in diagnosing and treating anxiety. Certain kinds of cognitive and behavioral therapy and certain medications have been found to be especially helpful for anxiety. You should feel comfortable talking with the mental health professional you choose. If you do not, you should seek help elsewhere. Once you find a clinician with whom you are comfortable, the two of you should work as a team and make a plan to treat your anxiety disorder together. In general, anxiety disorders are treated with medication, specific types of psychotherapy, or both. Treatment choices depend on the type of disorder, the person’s preference, and the expertise of the clinician. People with anxiety disorders who have already received treatment should tell their clinician about that treatment in detail. If they received medication, they should tell their doctor what medication was used, what the dosage was at the beginning of treatment, whether the dosage was increased or decreased while they were under treatment, what side effects occurred, and whether the treatment helped them become less anxious. If they received psychotherapy, they should describe the type of therapy, how often they attended sessions, and whether the therapy was useful. Often people believe that they have “failed” at treatment or that the treatment didn’t work for them when, in fact, it was not given for an adequate length of time or was administered incorrectly. Sometimes people must try different treatments or combinations of treatment before they find the one that works for them. I HAVE BEEN TREATING PATIENTS OF DEPRESSION AND BELIEVE ME HOMOEOPATHY IS THE ONLY TREATMENT WHICH CAN CURE DEPRESSION PERMANENTLY.
