In february 2017 when I went to health checkup I got to know that I got blood cancer. I am undergoing treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia from 1 year .in july 2017 I went for bone marrow checkup. There are no signs of cancer cells .now I am in maintenance therapy. Recently I got married before 2 months .i want to know that, I can participate in my sexual life or not?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, it's usually okay to have sex while you're being treated. However, there are a few things you should keep in mind. For one, you'll need to use a condom or other barrier method of protection during intercourse (including oral / genital sex) for at least three days following chemotherapy. Chemicals from chemotherapy can be excreted in semen and vaginal secretions, and a condom will help to protect your partner from unnecessary exposure. Also, penetrative sex should be avoided entirely if you have a compromised immune system. Be creative and find other ways to stimulate yourself and your partner during periods of increased vulnerability. Beyond this, there are no rules or timelines for sex after treatment. Listen to your body (or your partner's body) and pursue intimacy when you feel ready.

Yes but nearly 5-7 %may be genetically transferred, rest are acquired. Stages means extent of spread and grade means aggressiveness of disease.

Is there any way to cure lung cancer without chemotherapy, radiation or surgery? By homeopathy or ayurveda or anything else can it be cured?

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking clarification. Alternative systems of medicine, undoubtedly, will continue to have a strong role to play both in the prevention as well as treatment of cancer, independently and also as a complement to the conventional cancer treatment. The possibility of a cure, however, is influenced by a couple of factors including stage and its associated comorbidities, age, vitality, gene expressions, chromosomes affected, histopathological grading and the type of cancer etc all. Usually, small cell lung cancers are difficult to treat than the non small cell lung cancer (nsclc) ones. Again, metastasis into distant organs complicates stuff and tends to reduce the chances of a cure. Hope this clarifies. Take care and all the very best.

Enlarged prostate per se does not need treatment unless you have symptoms due to it. Prostate enlargement with age occurs due to hyperplasia of the prostate gland which is benign in nature. However due to mass effect (size effect) it may produce symptoms of various intensity. Symptoms may range from frequency, urgency, nocturnal awakening, hesitancy etc.

Suffering from urinary problems, due to enlarged prostate. I am now at Bangalore.

MBBS, DNB (General Surgery), MNAMS (Membership of the National Academy) (General Surgery) , Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery, Fellow of Indian association og gastro intestinal endo surgeons

Suffering from urinary problems, due to enlarged prostate. I am now at Bangalore.
Prostate enlargement hinders in flow of urine as prostate naturally surrounds urethra the outflow track for urine. Isymptoms can be managed by medications but first cause of prostate enlargement should be ascertained. Cancerous cause has to be ruled out. Non cancerous cause can usually be managed by medicines only. Surgery is indicated if medical treatment fails or if cancer is suspected. For this evaluation detailed clinical examination including rectal examination, ultrasound kub and prostate, blood psa levels have to be done.

Hello lybrate-user Ji. Follicular Thyroid cancer is a slow cancer. Good that you completed the treatment but long term follow up is very very important. Also Thyroid hormone replacement therapy will be required lifelong. Exercise and food you can do as per your choice .no issues. All the best.

What is the reason for cancer? What are the precautions? What are the symptoms? What is the treatment for that?

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear sir cancer is caused by abnormal uncontrolled growth of cells due to some change in genetic make up which control cells and their growth. This charge could be due to some infection, chemicals, radiation exposure, pollution, pesticides, tobacco etc. Symptoms depends on the site of disease, mostly it is painless lump, unexplained weight loss, nonhealing ulcer, abnormal bleeding etc. Prevention of all kinds of carcinogenic substance, regular exercise, healthy diet help in prevention. Treatment is done by combination of chemotherapy, Surgery and radiation therapy depending on the organ effected.

I am 46 Year Old Male. I have small ill-defined, iso-hypoechoic area in right lobe of lever. Same thing was detected three years back also. I have no problem/pain and is normal healthy. My LFT report is also normal. What could be the reason for this, and what is treatment.

Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery, MS - General Surgery, MBBS, FICS
General Surgeon, Delhi
It could be a small haemangioma. Since its size is static over the past 3 years, there is nothing to worry. Treatment: wait and watch (regular follow up with ultrasound). Thanks and god bless.
