My wife age 50, high BP under control by medicine. If she happen to know somebody died all of sudden by heart attack and if chest pain starts she will fear of heart attack and death if we check BP and ecg we found that everything is normal. Our family doctor said this is a psychological problem and consult a psychiatrist. Doctor, we sincerely request for a solution. Please guide us. Thanks.

Your family doctor is right, sudden loss of a dear one does lead to panick attacks but one needs good understanding near and dear ones, she may not need a psychiatrist to help her. You can give her a mild tranquillizer like librium, I would be surprised if there was no reaction to ultimate truth like death, though reactions to sudden death vary from individuals, some keep emotions bottled up, others vent out which is less harmful compared to pent up emotions. Reassure her that since her tests are normal, nothing will happen to her. Life is fragile if we look at natural calamities, bomb blasts & road accidents. She has to look at death with a larger perspective, being surrounded by caring people who understand her and slowly try to instil some logic.

There is evidence that certain dietary supplements and vitamins can help with certain types of pain. Fish oil is often used to reduce pain associated with swelling. Topical capsaicin, derived from chili peppers, may help with arthritis, diabetic nerve pain, and other conditions. There's evidence that glucosamine can help relieve moderate to severe pain from osteoarthritis in the knee. Do reply back for private consultation. And detailed treatment plan.

HI lybrate-user If BP is significantly high it may need medications definitely. The other means to control BP in addition are to reduce extra salt intake in our daily diet like pickles/ papads/ processed foods. Etc. Keep salt intake less than 6 gram per day. Regular walk and exercise in addition to relaxation practices like pranayama and meditation may help.

I feel hardness and discomfort near my heart almost everyday. And it all is happening since 4 years. I have consulted 3-4 times to doctors during this period but nothing happened positive. Should I go for the ECHO and TMT. Pls suggest me any other test rather than ECG. As ECG is not very effective as far as I know. Or please give me some advise to get rid off this problem. Is it anxiety? Or It related to heart disease. Please give your opinion. thank you.

Hi, I advise you to get yourself checked by a competent cardiologist. He/ she may require you to undergo certain diagnostics with respect to kidney function, liver function, cardiac side etc all and refer you appropriately to specialists in the above-mentioned areas for understanding the secondary underlying cause, if any. Simultaneously, you will have to check your dietary habits, especially cut down on salt, and other greesy/ oily & fatty foods. Ensure that you streamline your lifestyle, with adequate room for relaxation and de-stressing. See how you can streamline your occupational aspect as well to reduce stress at work. This shall systemically help you normalize your bp, unless there is a secondary cause behind. At the same time, any transient fluctuations in bp owing to stress/ anxiety or dietary factors could be arrested as well. Hope this helps. Take care and all the very best.
