I' m a 22 years old female suffering from obesity and polycystic ovary. What should I do?

PGDD, RD, Bachelor of Home Science
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
You need to plan your meals well. Eat smaller meals at frequent intervals. Reduce your meals but avoid long gaps between meals and/or heavy meals. Eat nuts, dairy fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid outside, junk foods. Exercise whenever you get the opportunity or at least 3 times a week. This will ensure at least initial weight loss. Lastly. Be commited. Any thing that you do and then leave is not the right thing. Diet is something you don' t go on or off. It' s what you take for life to nourish your body. So stick to a sensible eating plan and exercise routine that you can maintain. Not some diet that is low fat low carb protein rich etc.

You are feeling stress because your are unable to divide your time between personal life and professional life. I understand that the work demands more from you. But you should understand that your brain and body needs some rest so that it can re gains its energy levels. Firstly, don't take tension of work completion, and use your time peacefully and plan things. You get better ideas when you are not disturbed. Try to take time out of your busy schedule to relax yourself. Maybe you can go out for a movie, dinner or just family or friends outing. Just take few hour from your busy schedule. You will see things will change and you can work better and happily.

Hye, Thanks for the query. It is possible that you are not eating the right foods at the right time as and when needed by the body. Gaining weight requires you to eat more calories than you burn. Although fried or sugary foods are calorie dense, eating them exclusively wont provide enough nutrition to keep you energetic and healthy. Eating several meals and snacks throughout the day and including nutritious, calorie-dense food will help you gain weight healthfully. Weight gain depends primarily on your genetics, age, weight and activity level. To gain weight, you need to eat more calories than you burn. If youre not used to eating large quantities of food at one time, you may find it difficult to fit all of your calories into three meals per day. Eating nutritious, calorie-dense foods every two to three hours will help you get your calories in without making you overly full and sluggish. If you tend to forget to eat or are always on the go, bring calorie-dense snacks such as eggs, mixed nuts, fruits and dairy. Nutritious, calorie-dense foods provide essential vitamins and minerals, which promote good health and energy. Adding ghee and cream to foods adds additional calories for very little extra physical bulk. Fruit juice, masala milk provides crucial nutrients. Meal-replacement shakes and protein powder sound like good options but also remember that unless your diet is not planned sadly they won't help.

Dental Implants & Dental Crowns - Immediate Post-operative Care

BDS
Dentist, Delhi
Dental Implants & Dental Crowns - Immediate Post-operative Care

When a tooth is lost, the dental implant or dental crown would be the closest replacement both in terms of chewing efficiency and facial appearance.

Unlike a denture, the implant replaces not just the crown structure but also the root portion. This ensures that the tooth is replaced as it was prior to the loss. When clinically done properly and cared for appropriately, the dental implant can last for decades.

Why Is a Dental Crown Needed?
A dental crown may be needed in the following situations:

  1. To protect a weak tooth (for instance, from decay) from breaking or to hold together parts of a cracked tooth
  2. To restore an already broken tooth or a tooth that has been severely worn down
  3. To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn't a lot of tooth left
  4. To hold a dental bridge in place
  5. To cover misshapened or severely discolored teeth
  6. To make a cosmetic modification

And, if you have gone for dental implants, keep the following in-check to maintain a good oral health after you the implant is done-

  • Until the effect of the anesthetic wears off, do not eat or limit to drinking something cold. Avoid anything hot or spicy for the first day.
  • Start using the mouthwash from the evening of surgery and continue through the entire week. It should be held in the surgical area for at least a minute, repeated 3 times daily, for the first week.
  • The other teeth should be brushed from the evening of the surgery. The surgical area should not be touched for the first 3 to 4 days. After that, depending on the pain tolerance, gently brush this area with a soft toothbrush.
  • Add a teaspoon of salt to a glass of warm water, keep it in the surgical site for a soothing effect. This can be repeated as many times as possible, after each meal or snack.
  • Follow a soft diet and do not let the food go into the surgical site area.
  • Do not disturb the surgical site with either tongue or finger.
  • Smoking should be completely avoided until the wound completely heals. The negative pressure created during can dislodge the clot and lead to delayed healing and even complications like dry socket.
  • Expect some swelling and/or bruising in the cheek and mouth area, which will increase for the first 2 to 3 days and then gradually subside. Swelling can be managed with ice packs or a cold towel that is applied for 10 minutes with half-hour breaks. From day 2 onwards, gentle heat can be used.
  • Similarly, expect pain for the first couple of days which can be controlled with pain-killers. Take the first pain-killer before the anesthetic effect wears off.
  • Continued pain and swelling after the first 4 to 5 days should prompt a visit to the dentist, as it might be an indication of underlying dental infection.
  • If you have dentures over the surgical implant site, try using them to the least extent possible for the first week.
  • Complete the entire antibiotics course after the surgery.

Appropriate post-operative care goes a long way in ensure the implant gets absorbed and lasts a lifetime. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

Why You Can Get a Slipped Disc Problem?

FPM, DNB, DA, MBBS
Pain Management Specialist, Gurgaon
Why You Can Get a Slipped Disc Problem?

Are you prone to slipped disc problem? + the ideal way to treat it

A slipped disc, also known as a prolapsed disc or herniated disc, is the term given to the phenomenon that occurs when a cartilaginous disc found between the vertebrae in the spine becomes slightly displaced or protrudes, thereby pressing on the nerves in the adjacent areas and causing back pain.
This happens when the soft inner part of the disc, known as nucleus pulposus, bulges out through a weakness in the exterior part of the disc. A prolapsed disc usually occurs in the lower region of the spine and can be of varying sizes. There might even be the development of inflammation around the disc in some cases.

Who is likely to get affected?
Most cases of herniated disc occur in patients between the ages of 30 and 50. The number of men affected is twice as many as the number of women.
Although the root cause of this problem is not yet known, there are a number of factors that may trigger it. These factors include working at a job that requires a lot of lifting, an occupation that involves remaining in a seated position for a long time, weight-bearing sports, obesity, smoking habits and increasing age.

Effective ways of treating the problem
The different methods that are commonly used to treat the problem are:

  • Medications - There are many different kinds of medicines that are effective in providing relief. These include painkillers, muscles relaxants, anti-inflammatory pills, etc.
  • Spinal injections - A number of spinal injections are used to treat slipped discs. The injection is done at the opening where the inflamed nerve roots are found and reduces pain, swelling and irritation in the area.
  • Radiofrequency ablation - This procedure makes use of an electrical current produced by radio waves to reduced pain and sensitivity in the affected area.
  • Ozone discectomy - As opposed to the surgical removal of the prolapsed disc, this new process makes use of an ozone-oxygen mixture that is injected into the spine to treat the problem. Many international studies have proved its superiority to traditional methods and surgeries.

Those affected by this problem are advised to keep exercising and continuing with their everyday activities as best as possible.

'Consult'.

PIMPLE Never pick or pop pimples with your fingers, as it can lead to infection and scarring. A dietary therapy with the right medications for pimples can also help a lot. Kojic acid (a natural skin lightener derived from mushroom extract), arbutin (also called bearberry extract), and vitamin C (ascorbic acid) are great alternative ingredients to lighten scars left by acne. Don't use vitamin E on scars. You may have heard that applying vitamin E to a scar will help it heal faster. But according to a study , applying the nutrient directly onto a scar can actually hinder its healing,if you want medicine than , i will prescibe , like daily apply night microbenz cream daytime use ahaglo facewash

What is the truth about hair transplantation? Is it curing and permanent solution for baldness? How much it costs (real) in chennai? May I go for a HT in ARHT clinic? Does it worth for money?

What is the truth about hair transplantation? Is it curing and permanent solution for baldness? How much it costs (re...
Hi. The most important points for hair transplant are - the type, the pattern and the stage of hairloss in your case! in male pattern hairloss of initial stages of 1-2, homoeopathic medicines can arrest the stage where it is already in. But in advanced stages of hairloss of 3, 4, 5 - one can have homoeopathic medicines (3 & 4 stage) along with hair transplant. Hair transplant is a procedure where one's own hair follicle from the back side of the scalp (donor area) is taken air tout from the root and is placed on his own required area (because of dna reasons, we can't donate hair follicle to each other, not even to our own kids/ siblings/ parents). And in the whole lifetime, we can only take to around 12000 to 14000 follicles from the back (depending on the condition of the donor area) - it's one day procedure. Go to any renowned hospital, clinic or firm which deals only in hair (they may cost little more from you, but will give you a quality results ultimately. And they only allow plastic surgeon to perform this)! cost differs from doctor to doctor (from rs. 40-50 per follicle to rs. 80-90 per follicle). No. Of follicles depends upon requirement of your scalp and capacity of your donor area (back side of the scalp which is never ever affected by dht) as well. For eg. For stage 1 - may be 2000-2500 follicles are needed, so you can calculate accordingly. (the rates may be slightly different in chennai, you need to find out).
