Hello Mr. lybrate-user, Ligament tear can be a painful and stressful condition. Its good that you are making an attempt at walking as ambulation is necessary to keep mobility. However, I would like to know the course of treatment that you have taken so far for this. We can try to figure out if any modification is required and help you walk freely again.

Hi. Backpain is a common problem. It is mainly due to bad posture and activities like bad reading position, bad chairs n bad bed etc. Stand n walk upright without stooping. Sit in a proper chair. Take 5-10 min breaks every 2 hrs. Sleep on a flat bed. Do exercise daily. While sleeping keep a rolled towel under your knees. Back pain gets relieved by lifestyle modifications. Do back strengthening exercises. Thank you.

I tore my ACL partially a few years back. It did not need a surgery and never hurt much. I have done proper rehab and have strengthened the muscles surrounding it. Recently I had stopped working out for 3-4 months and went back to playing football 2 weeks back and twisted my knee. It hurts a bit. I wanted to know what are the exercises I can do to strengthen my ACL.

Quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

Hi Thanks for your query and Welcome to Lybrate. I am Dr Akshay from Fortis Hospital, New Delhi. These symptoms are called as Paresthesias and there can be many causes for this at your age. It can be due to compression of nerves at lower spine level, it can be due to long standing diseases like Diabetes or anything which can lead to Neuropathy , also it can be vascular in nature. There are medications for neuropathic symptoms like Pregabalin or Gabapentin which can be initiated in small doses , but we have to be sure that these symptoms are not due to vascular cause as you have mentioned in your history. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation. Thanks & Regards Dr Akshay Kumar Saxena Consultant Orthopaedics Fortis Hospital, New Delhi

Hi my problem in my back bone (miner dislocation in l5) since last 12 years. Why I dont suffer from pain regularly?

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have mentioned the word dislocation which is worrying for me as an orthopaedic surgeon because this is a term we se rarely. Anyway to understand your problem and give an opinion as to why you are not having pain is possible only if I can see your x rays or mri scans of spine. Also I think you are very young that is why you are not experiencing too much pain as of now, but let me reserve my opinion till the time I see your investigations. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

There are many causes of leg pain. However, only some of these are medically serious. Minor discomfort will often disappear within a short time and can be eased or relieved with at-home treatments.

Common Causes of Leg Pain

Cramps

A principle cause of leg pain is a cramp or muscle spasm, often known as a charley horse. Muscle fatigue, dehydration, and some medications—such as diuretics and statins—can all lead to leg cramps.

Injury

Leg pain is also frequently a sign of injury, such as:

muscle strainstendonitis (an inflamed tendon)shin splints (pain in the lower front of your leg after overuse)stress fractures

Medical Conditions

Certain medical conditions commonly lead to leg pain. These include:

atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries)
deep vein thrombosis (a blood clot caused by long periods of bed rest)
arthritis
gout
varicose (spider) veins
the presence of infection in the bone or tissues of the leg
nerve damage (often as a result of conditions such as diabetes)

I have pain in my leg. When I rest about 2 -3 hours, I start pain for about 1 hour.
Please suggest me.
Hi. Is there any history of injury or hurt to the area? any underlying medical condition? the pain in legs can be because of - muscle cramps (due to tiredness or dehydration), shin splints (doing activity over and over on hard surfaces can bring this on. You may also be more likely to get shin splints if you have flat feet or your feet turn outward. Rest your legs to feel better. Ice helps), tendinitis (you can get it from overworking the calf muscle or climbing the stairs, apply ice to get some relief), sprains (do rest, ice, compression & elevation). Other causes are varicose veins, arterial disease, sciatica, diabetic neuropathy. Medication: meantime, take homoeopathic medicines - arnica 200 and rhus tox. 200 - take both of them thrice daily for 1 week. Also, apply schwabe's topi-arnica and topi mp gel on the affected area in circular motions gently thrice a day. And wrap crepe bandage over it. Get back to me thereafter.

Hello doctor. I am an professional athlete. But I am having blood clotting for the past two months. What can I do to ...
Hi take following precautions. 1) wear loose-fitting clothes, socks, or stockings. 2) raise your legs 6 inches above your heart from time to time. 3) wear special stockings (called compression stockings) if your doctor prescribes them. 4) do exercises your doctor gives you. 5) change your position often, especially during a long trip. 6) do not stand or sit for more than 1 hour at a time. 7) eat less salt. 8) try not to bump or hurt your legs and try not to cross them. 9) do not use pillows under your knees. 10) raise the bottom of your bed 4 to 6 inches with blocks or books. Take all medicines the doctor prescribes you. Best wishes.
