Hi lybrate-user to gain weight you need to combine a balanced eating pattern with regular physical activity. You should be eating at least 6 small meals a day, rather than sticking to 3 square meals. You could divide it as 3 main meals and 3 snacks. You need to be eating every 2-3 hours. Space out snacks during the day so you don't spoil your appetite. Bread, cereal, rice, whole wheat, dalia and pasta: biscuits, and corn-bread are good sources of carbohydrates. Fruits: dried fruits, fruit nectars, and large quantities of fresh fruits vegetables: include, potatoes, peas, corn in your diet. Meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts: beef, pork, lamb, poultry, salmon, omelets, nuts, peanut butter, kidney beans, chickpeas will help you gain weight. Include dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cheese: milk, fruited yogurts, hard cheeses, ice cream, puddings, custards, milkshakes. -nuts and seeds make a healthy option for snacks. -roasted channas and peanuts are good -peanut butter on the sandwiches are a great mid-meal choice. -you must know that cereals actually contain some healthy calories. Stay hydrated: drinking plenty of water and other fluids like juices, milk, soups etc, will work in your favour. Do not drink water before a meal and in between the meal as it may make you lose your appetite, thus calorie intake suffers. Sleep: at least 8 hours of sound sleep is a must. Since your body is actually building up muscles, while you rest. Weight gainers have long term side effects.

Mix them well and take 1/2 teaspoon (3-5 gm) of mixture daily after meal. Or take 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper (kali mirch), 1/ 2 tea spoon of jeera (cumin), 2-3 slice of ginger. Boil it in one glass of water for 2-3 minutes. Drink 5-10 teaspoons (15-20 ml) in morning and evening for strong digestive system. Or you can take amla powder 1 teaspoon with water for strong digestion. 2. Take a diet rich with proteins and fats. You should take high calorie food that increase your muscle mass and induce growth in bones. I am sending the diet chart. 3 'Healthy' Dietary Habits that are Infact HARMING You!

3 'Healthy' Dietary Habits that are Infact HARMING You!

3 healthy unhealthy dietary habits

With the vast amount of available information, ranging from age-old wisdom to health magazines and health sites, most people are prone to misinformation when it comes to what to eat and what to avoid.

From drinking copious amounts of water to eating a light lunch, it is the time that these commonly known health tips are debunked.

These 3 habits that may seem healthy on the surface but are actually harming you!

1) Drinking large amounts of water

It is advisable to drink a healthy dose of water each day, but you should drink water only when you feel thirsty and not otherwise. If you drink water beyond your level of thirst, it can lead to excess water intake. This excessive intake can be the cause of conditions like obesity, skin and digestive problems among other health conditions. An average person consumes 8 glasses of water each day. But you are advised to drink that much, only if you are thirsty enough. It is also recommended not to drink cold water or ice-cold drinks.

2) Eating uncooked foods

It is essential to preserve the nutrients of the ingredients you eat, but it is equally important to make them digestible. Cooking involves subjecting the ingredients to heat, which helps to remove and kill certain impurities and bacteria in them. Cooked foods are easily broken down, and hence, digested with ease. Some vegetables and foods are even more beneficial when lightly cooked. Vegetables like Brussel sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, and kale should not be consumed raw.

3) Eating a light lunch

The ideology behind eating a light lunch may be to keep your weight in check and to stay healthy, but if the food you're having is not nutritious, it can still cause you to gain weight. Some food joints even offer a lunch menu of light proportions while the dinner menu may be packed with heavy amounts of food. This is wrong. It is advisable that people have larger proportions of food in their lunch while dinner should be meager as your digestion slows down as the day progresses.

Hello Lybrate User, If you want to gain weight, then it is very important that you do it right. Binging on soda and donuts may help you gain weight, but it can destroy your health at the same time. If you are underweight, then you want to gain a balanced amount of muscle mass and subcutaneous fat, not a bunch of unhealthy belly fat. Therefore, it is absolutely very important to eat mostly healthy foods even if you are trying to gain weight. Here are food groups and few tips to gain weight, follow this - * You need to eat more calories than your body burns in order to gain weight. Aim for 300-500 calories per day above your maintenance level, or 700-1000 calories if you want to gain weight fast. * Protein forms the building blocks of your muscles. Eating sufficient protein is required to gain muscle weight instead of just fat. *High-protein foods include meats, fish, eggs,  many dairy products, legumes, nuts and others. * In order to gain weight, eat at least 5 meals per day and make sure to eat plenty of fat, carbs and protein. * Don’t drink water before meals. This can fill your stomach and make it harder to get in enough calories. * Drink milk. Drinking whole milk to quench thirst is a simple way to get in more high-quality protein and calories. * Get enough sleep. Sleep for 7 to 8 hours. If possible take afternoon nap for half an hour. For better results and daily diet plan consult me privately. Take care.

I am an 18year old female, and I have cervical spondylosis for the last 2years. Can you suggest some exercises for me?

CCP, MBA, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Karnal
The best exercises are those involving stretching the neck backwards, as that works against cervical spondylosis. In yoga, start doing bhujangasana, tadasana, gomukhasana etc. Don't use pillows while sleeping. Put cow ghee 2 drops in nose daily. Massage with medicated oil followed by fomentation. This will relax the muscles. If it is more, then go for greeva vasti at a panchakarma centre.

1. Stop Eating When Your Belly is 80% Full-Instead of binge eating until your buttons pop, go slow and only eat until your belly is 80% full. It will help you avoid overeating. Also, your stomach will perform better with more space to produce digestive juices and break down food. Slow, mindful eating will help you sense your level of fullness. It takes about 20 minutes for the brain to register that the stomach is full. Research indicates that eating slowly also enhances satiety. Plus, it allows you to better enjoy the flavor of the food. Do not eat food or drink a beverage on the go, such as drinking your coffee while driving to work. You end up consuming more calories this way. Do not eat late at night. Enjoy your last meal of the day 2 to 3 hours before going to bed. After eating a snack, wait 3 hours before your next meal or snack. Likewise, wait 5 hours after eating a heavy meal. If you skip a meal, load up on fruits and vegetables first so that you do not overeat when you finally sit down to eat. Research shows that after fasting for about 18 hours, the body craves more fattening foods to load up more calories per volume. If possible, go on a detox diet once a week. 2. Keep an Eye on Portion Sizes-To reduce your portion sizes and avoid mindless eating, follow these tips: Downsize your dishes by using smaller plates, bowls and even serving spoons. In a 2008 study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, participants were asked to serve ice cream for themselves in 17- and 34-inch bowls. Researchers found that people, even nutrition experts, who used larger bowls served themselves 31% more ice cream than those who used smaller bowls. Serve beverages in tall, narrow glasses instead of small and wide ones as they appear to have more liquid, thus making you think that you are drinking more. Do not eat chips and other packaged snacks straight from the bag. When at a restaurant, request a half order or smaller portion of your chosen entree. 3. Detox Drinks-flushes out toxins, balances the pH levels and helps you maintain a healthy weight. Another option is to mix 1 to 2 teaspoons of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a tall glass of water and drink it once or twice daily. You can also add raw honey to it. Although lemons and apple cider vinegar are acidic in nature, they have an alkalizing effect on the body. However, they may trigger heartburn if you drink them in excess or are prone to acidity. You can also drink delicious detox smoothies to support your body’s natural detoxifying abilities. Plus, it will count toward your servings of fruits and vegetables. Needless to say, kick unhealthy habits like drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking cigarettes. 4. Get off the Couch-Lack of physical activity is the most obvious yet neglected cause of unhealthy weight gain. People fall into the illusion of losing weight and staying slim with different weight loss diets, while disregarding the most basic rule—you must exercise to burn calories. You do not need an intense workout. In fact, you can enjoy a physical activity of your choice like brisk walking, running, jogging, swimming, dancing, aerobics or cycling. Even gardening can be great exercise as it helps you burn more than 300 calories per hour. Regular, moderate exercise will also improve your mood and reduce stress. Once you figure out the activity of your choice and fit it in your daily routine, you will enjoy your exercise and do it regularly with enthusiasm. 5. Eat a Healthy Breakfast-Try some protein-rich breakfast recipes, such as: A high-protein smoothie Boiled eggs Cottage cheese and fruits Greek yogurt Fortified cereal with milk You can also eat fiber-rich foods like oatmeal and sandwiches on whole-grain bread. Plus, replace your morning cup of coffee with green tea as it contains powerful antioxidants and promotes fat burning. 6. Steer Clear of Fatty Fast Food-Here are some tips to help you make better food choices: Substitute fries with a fruit, yogurt or salad. Opt for baked or grilled versions of fried foods. Choose plain, air-popped popcorn over high-calorie, oil-popped popcorn. Instead of products made from refined grains, choose products like whole-grain pasta, whole-grain bread, whole-grain cereals and brown rice. Check food labels for whole-grain ingredients like whole oats, whole rye, whole wheat, buckwheat, whole-grain barley, millet and quinoa. Avoid high-calorie sauces and mayonnaise by opting for plain sandwiches. Or, you could replace these sauces with salsa, mustard or a low-calorie dressing. Skip the sodas and go for light lemonade, green tea or herbal teas. 7. Stress- Stress is one of the most common factors contributing to weight gain because it increases the rate at which your body stores fat and reduces your ability to burn fat. Stress is one of the most common factors contributing to weight gain because it increases the rate at which your body stores fat and reduces your ability to burn fat. 8. Get Proper Sleep-To promote proper sleep, establish a bedtime ritual like taking a warm bath, a few minutes of reading or meditation. Also, turn out the lights, create a relaxing environment, and remove all TVs and computers from your bedroom. It is usually suggested to stick to a schedule of going to bed and getting up in the morning at the same time every day.

You can feel weak due to lack of essential nutrients, not getting enough sleep, a weak immune system, excessive drinking, skipping meals, emotional stress, and too much physical labor. Persistent weakness can be caused by health problems like anemia, arthritis, hypothyroidism, a sleep disorder, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, diabetes and heart disease. In these cases, it is very important to find out the exact cause behind your weakness.
