Acne has left scars and pores all over my face. What should I do in order to reduce my pores?

Certified Diabetes Educator, Registered Dietitian (RD), PGDD, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S), General Physician
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
acne is a common problem in teen. Almost everybody will get pimples during their teen years. First, don't try to self treat acne. Some popular nonprescription acne lotions, cleansers and other skin products can cause a serious reaction (rare), mostly it is normal to have acne in teenage. For pimples it's important to wash your face twice daily to remove impurities, dead skin cells, and extra oil from your skin's surface, avoid touching your face or propping your cheek or chin on your hands. Not only can you spread bacteria, you can also irritate the already inflamed facial skin. Never pick or pop pimples with your fingers, as it can lead to infection and scarring. A dietary therapy with the right medications for pimples can also help a lot. Kojic acid (a natural skin lightener derived from mushroom extract), arbutin (also called bearberry extract), and vitamin c (ascorbic acid) are great alternative ingredients to lighten scars left by acne. Don't use vitamin e on scars. You may have heard that applying vitamin e to a scar will help it heal faster. But according to a study, applying the nutrient directly onto a scar can actually hinder its healing. In the study, vitamin e either had no effect or made matters worse for 90% of the patients, and 33% who put vitamin e on the skin developed a contact dermatitis. Increasing the intake of omega-3 fatty acids through a diet significantly rich in fish and seafood results in lower rates of an inflammatory disease like acne. A low-glycemic-index diet also reduces acne risk. I being a both a registered dietitian and doctor have been successfully helping patients with their problems through a holistic approach using customized therapeutic diet and medications. Do reply back for private consultation for rx.

Modern Day Hair Loss Treatments

MBBS, MD-Skin,VD & Leprosy, Hair Transplant Surgeon
Dermatologist, Mumbai
Modern Day Hair Loss Treatments

Everyone loves healthy shiny hair. But in today's world many people are suffering from hair loss. Hair loss could be because of number of reasons such as aging, too much stress, smoking, hormonal imbalance, infections, use of wrong hair products, genetic factors and nutritional imbalances.

Our scalp consists of about 100,000 strands of hair and it is normal to lose 50 to 100 strands a day. It is only when you start losing more than that some medical intervention is required.

PREVENTION OF HAIR LOSS

First of all, it is very important to detect the root cause of your hair loss at an early stage. Once it is detected, it becomes easy to treat it. Following home remedies can be tried to prevent it at first stage:

  1. Avoid excessive or chronic stress or at least learn to release your stress.
  2. Avoid "crash diets" for rapid weight loss.
  3. Quit excessive smoking.
  4. In case of any hormonal imbalance see your doctor immediately who will then advise you to undergo proper treatment.
  5. Observe if any medicine you are taking is leading to hair fall. Call upon your doctor to replace it with some other medicine.
  6. Eat a healthy diet with enough proteins, carbohydrates, essential fatty acids, vitamin, and minerals to support healthy hair growth.
  7. Make sure you receive enough iron to avoid symptoms causing anaemia. Avoid overdose of vitamin A.

HAIR FALL TREATMENT

There are a couple of treatments available for hair loss which includes medications, surgery, laser therapy, and wigs or hairpieces.

Medication-

There are only two medications available to treat pattern baldness which are FDA approved. These medicines are:

  1. Minoxidil (Rogaine). Minoxidil is an over-the-counter liquid or foam that you need to apply onto your scalp. This is to be applied twice a day to grow hair and to prevent further hair loss. It takes at least 16 weeks to show the effects. However you can have scalp irritation and unwanted hair growth your face and hands while taking this medicine.
  2. Finasteride (Propecia). This medicine is prescribed if you don't respond to minoxidil. This medicine is to be taken daily in the form of a pill. You need to keep taking it to retain benefits. However, there are some side effects of taking this medication which include diminished sex drive and sexual function and an increased risk of prostate cancer.

Surgery-

In case you don't respond to any of the above mentioned medicines your dermatologist might advise you to undergo hair transplant or restoration surgery. During this procedure, the surgeon removes a part of your skin and then implants it on your scalp. Such procedures are generally expensive. There is also a risk of infection and scarring.

Wigs and Hairpieces-

You can also use a wig to hide your baldness if you do not want to undergo any surgery or are irresponsive to above medications.

Hello doctor,
I have poor facial hair, is any natural remedies for get facial hair growth or any treatment or tablets...
For men, beards stand for masculinity, so a fully grown moustache and beard is a source of great pride. That is probably why'grow beard faster' is one of the most popular search phrases on google. We try and decode facial hair growth and list some ways to make your beard grow faster, naturally. 1: exfoliate your skin once a week. This will help remove dead cells and stimulate hair growth 2: wash your skin with warm water using a mild cleanser twice a day. Clean skin accelerates hair growth. 3: eucalyptus helps promote facial hair growth, so use a moisturiser with eucalyptus as the main ingredient and massage it on your face to grow your beard faster. 4: make sure you sleep well as this will help repair damaged skin cells and promote beard growth. 5. Certain vitamins and minerals help increase the speed at which facial hair grows. Include vitamins a, b, c and e in your diet as they speed up the hair growth process. 6: keep a tab on ingrown hair; beards usually don't grow evenly if there are ingrown hairs on your face. Here are some home remedies to prevent ingrowths. 7: take 2.5 mg of biotin every day to help your beard grow faster. 8: beards will grow more quickly when you are relaxed, and many beauty and health experts believe hair reveals stress. Manage stress in healthy ways through meditation and yoga for better results. 9: increase the amount of protein in your diet. The protein found in meat, fish, eggs and nuts will help the hair on your face grow quicker. 10: refrain from shaping or trimming your hair very often. Groom your beard only after six weeks when it is full grown. 11: facial massage improves blood circulation to the face, which will stimulate new hair growth.

Homoeopathic cream ANTIMARKS CREAM (BIOVALLEY) Apply twice daily in circular fashion Egg white works well in order to lighten the pimple marks and the pimple scars. Take a fresh egg and break the egg, separate the egg white from the egg yolk. Apply this egg white on the pimple marks. After 10-15 minutes, wash with the cold water. Baking Soda Take some baking soda. Mix some water with the baking soda and apply this mixture on the pimple marks. Baking soda serves as an agent that carries out micro dermabrasion on the skin and helps to clear the pimple marks on the face and body. Tomatoes Tomatoes are rich in Vitamin A, which helps nourish the dead skin while rejuvenating it. Vitamin A helps by healing the skin and by helping facilitate quick growth of the skin while removing the scars. Using tomatoes to help heal the scars on the skin is not a lengthy process, but it is rather simple. Just take a tomato, slice it and make it into a pulp. Apply the pulp on the face and leave it on for twenty minutes’ time. Then, wash it off with some warm water. You could also mix cucumbers with it. Make a paste out of all of cucumbers and tomatoes and apply as a face mask. Leave it on for half an hour and wash it with some cool water. Follow this method two days at a time every week and observe the results.

Hello, Use some natural home treatments: TEA TREE OIL: Use tea tree oil facewash twice a day followed by tea tree toner and an oil free moisturizer. LEMON JUICE: Apply fresh lemon juice on your face with a cotton ball. Leave it on for around 10 minutes then rinse with cool water. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR: Mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar and water and use the mixture as a toner. Apply on your face with a cotton swab. ALOE VERA: Aloe Vera has burn-relieving properties and can promote healing, fight infection, and even reduce scarring. Scrape out the gel from an aloe plant with a spoon, and apply to your face. HONEY AND CINNAMON: Add half teaspoon of cinnamon powder with 1 tablespoon of honey and apply on face. Leave it for an hour, or if possible leave it overnight. Then wash off. GREEN TEA: Make a cup of green tea and let it cool down. Then wash your face with it. PAPAYA AND HONEY: Papaya has a holy grail ingredient- papain that will slough the dead skin cells and promote healthy skin cells. Also, papaya has bleaching properties that will work on skin lightening. Extract the pulp out of papaya and mix it with 2 teaspoons of honey. Smear the mixture on your face and leave it for 20 minutes. Rinse with water and moisturize.

Hair fall can occur due to many reasons like stress, chemical damage, nutritional deficiency, enviornmental factors etc. We need to access the exact reason to start treatment. Even though you can start using RISHI GROW HAIR OIL at bed time & wash with ROBIN PLUS HERBAL SHAMPOO. Use CLEAN  OIL if dandruff is the reason as this oil treats it in just two applications along with reducing itching. Internal ayurvedic medicines will be provided after studying your bodily constitution as per ayurveda. Do it for two months and your hair fall will reduce to normal. Eat more of green leafy vegies and fresh seasonal fruits. Take amla powder or amla murabba twice daily. Add some coconut daily in your diet. Keep water in copper vessel overnight and drink in the morning empty stomach. Avoid chinese foods and food stuffs packed in plastics. Let me know after it and I will advise accordingly.

Hi. Let me tell you about hairfall. In layman's language, hairfall can be divided into 2 types - temporary hairfall and permanent (which is called as'hairloss' rather). In temporary hairfall, hair grows back again from the same hair root, but in case of permanent hairloss, may be because of formation of dht (di- hydro -testosterone) around hair root it gets choked up, subsequently affects the blood supply to the hair and thus hair root is lost forever. (there are different pattern and types of hairloss, because of different reasons like alopecia areata, telogen effluvium, scarring alopecia, traction alopecia, etc.) causes of hairloss: many factors are responsible formation of this dht or male/ female pattern baldness - hereditary, post-illness/ ailment, post-delivery, post- chemotherapy, nutritional deficiencies, hormaonal imbalance, insufficient sleep, sudden loss of weight, stress/ tensions/ excessive anger, use of bore water, any other underlying diseases, etc. Management: take diet rich in protein like non-veg, eggs, pulses, legumes, sprouts, nuts (sp. Walnut and almonds), iron-rich food like green vegetables, also take flaxseeds, green tea, soyabean, fruits, salads, etc. Take proper 6-9hrs of sound sleep. Give up the habit of smoking and excessive alcohol intake. Avoid junk food and any kind of beverages (tea, coffee, aerated drinks, cold drinks, etc.) avoid canned/ tinned food or food that contains preservatives (eat fresh ones). Avoid use of harsh hair colour, hair treatment like rebonding, straightening, perming, etc. Avoid vigorous exercises or any supplements provided by the gym! use rose wood/ any wooden hair comb to brush your hair. Regular exercising is also one of the important point, but should be done under some good, qualified yoga teacher or instructor for proper guidance; it also releases the stress/ tension in the mind and the body and keeps you fit and young! medication: take homoeopathic rx - schwabe's wiesbaden 200 & alfalfa tonic twice a day for 1 month and revert. Also, use schwabe's arnica shampoo and hair growth oil regularly as per the condition of your scalp (minimum 3 times a week). After shampooing, use bakson's arnica hair conditioner as well after every head wash. Apart from this, take follihair tablets (multivitamin) - 1 tab. Daily once for 1 month. (n. B: with the help of homoeopathic medicines, we can only prevent further progress of the hairloss, means it will get arrests in the present condition in case of progressive baldness.)
