Sleep deprivation can cause headache and vice versa. Just take over the counter available analgesics like Paracetamol or Ibuprofen for relief. Once headache is relieved get some sleep. If such problem is recurrent or persistent consult again.

How Your Diet Can Potentially Prevent Cancer?

MBBS, DNB Gen Surgery, DNB Surgical Oncology
Oncologist, Bangalore
How Your Diet Can Potentially Prevent Cancer?

Let’s start with some mind-boggling statistics: in India, over 2.5 million patients are diagnosed with cancer. Moreover, it is estimated that around 700,000 new patients are found to have cancer, each year, and around 550,000 annual deaths are related to cancer.

While these perturbing numbers might unnerve you, there is, however, a case for cautious optimism. While there are certain causes of cancer like genetics and environment which are beyond your realms of control; there are certain causes which can be controlled by you. Research shows that nearly 70% of cancer causes are in your hands – including your own diet.

Your daily nutritional intake is vital for two reasons:

  1. There are definite cancer-preventing nutrients and food items;
  2. Conversely, there are certain types of nutrients and food items which cause cancer.

While research typically points to links between food items and cancer than well-established cause-effect relationships, it is found that certain dietary items have a greater influence. Here are some general guidelines to guide you better:

  1. Avoid processed and red meat: Processed and red meat are generally considered as any meat which has been artificially modified for taste or purposes of preservation. It must be noted that during this process of preservation there are certain chemicals mixed with it which makes it carcinogenic in nature. Though the WHO (World health organization) hasn’t recommended any specific amount for consumption, it has categorized processed and red meats as a Group 1 – carcinogen.
  2. Consume more fruits and vegetables: Plant foods including fruits and vegetables contain essential micronutrients like flavonoids and carotenoids which researchers’ state are powerful antioxidants. Antioxidants help prevent the destruction of cells as they diminish free radicals. It is recommended to regularly consume fruits and vegetables like berries, broccoli, leafy greens, apples, papaya, among others.
  3. Reduce your alcohol and smoking habit: Along with processed and red meats, alcohol is designated as a Group 1 – carcinogen by the WHO. Cancer research has repeatedly linked consumption of alcohol to higher chances of cancer, irrespective of the alcohol type. A number of cancers including pharynx, liver, and breast are directly connected to alcohol.

Furthermore, it is suggested that an individual must limit to no more than a drink on any given day.

In conclusion, it must be stated that our diets play an indispensable role in the prevention of cancer. The consumption of healthy food items will only bolster our physical well-being along with the reduction of cancer occurrence. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Mr. Lybrate-user, you can take green tea, but no honey. Green tea is good as it offers antioxidents. But honey containing fructose is not advisable in a diabetic person.

Rinse your face with water and pat dry. Mix 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon together until they are thoroughly blended and have formed a sort of paste. Apply the mask to your face (or spot treat) and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off completely, and pat your face dry. This is a sticky mixture, so make sure you have some paper towels at on hand.

Experiencing pain even after 2 months of surgery is not normal. If it's the same truth then you should see the dentist from whom you got the extraction done from and the doctor will be able to tell you that if it's the same tooth or the other truth in the same side either way you should get the examination done as soon as possible so that exact cause of your problem can be found out and treated accordingly.

Dear friend, first know as what is it that you actually want. Sacrificing means doing something which is not a preferred choice. It is suppressing what you want in some way and what is suppressed does not evaporate but gets magnified. I hope you realize that an individual, because he is an individual is selfish to the core, the sooner you realize it the better it is. If you want money, draw a line and be one tracked and you will eventually get it. Try being honest to yourself. It is not very easy

Always take care of your spine and never avoid your problem. It is a progressive disease. All you need to do is exercises for your entire spine 1. Lie flat on your back and place two regular rounded towels exactly under your curved spine where there is kyphosis. Do regular breathing cycles for 5-10 minutes. This is a correction for kyphosis. 2. Lie on your stomach with pillow under the hip (must). Raise left arm 10 times and right arm 10 times. Continue the same exercise for both the legs. 3. If you are a swimmer then start swimming as an exercise for 30 minutes. Water properties have proven the best for treating AS. Feel free to ask further questions.

Dear lybrate-user, the right way to reduce weight is making a balance in your diet and exercises both. Maintain your calorie intake to maximum of 1500/day and try to burn 500 calories per day through exercise the ratio of carbohydrates, protein and fat of the total diet should be: carbohydrates -50% protein-40% fat-10%
