If you are feeding your baby then this type of menstruation problem is seen in mothers. Menses comes after 2 to 3months but you may also conceive during this period so use contraception.

7 Things First Time Parents Must Remember

Having a baby is a beautiful experience and it is important for first time parents to learn the ropes of taking care of a newborn. A mother should consider getting help after the birth of the child as that particular time period can be overwhelming and hectic to take care of the baby all alone. You can get started by nursing your child by taking assistance from specialists and nurses who tell you how to change the clothes of the baby, hold the baby and how to take care of your baby.

How to take care of a newborn
You can hire a maid who can help you look after your baby. If you have relatives, you can request them to help you out. It is important to keep the following things in mind while taking care of a baby.

  1. Babies are susceptible to infection quickly and hence it is necessary that we wash our hands properly with a hand sanitiser before carrying the baby.
  2. Make sure you carry the baby properly by providing the infant with proper support below the neck and head. The same rules apply while laying the baby down in the cradle.
  3. Do not shake the baby vigorously, even by mistake, as it can cause bleeding in the brain of the baby, which can cause death.
  4. Any member of the household should not throw the baby in the air or try any rough play as a newborn baby is not ready for it.
  5. Sponge bath should be given to the baby until the umbilical cord falls off and only after the navel heals totally. It can take about 1–4 weeks for this to happen.
  6. It is very vital that you use clean diapers for your baby, and if the diaper is wet, it must be removed immediately to avoid any rash in and around the genital area. It is important that the genital area is cleaned well by the use of cotton balls and water.
  7. In case you are using cloth diapers, then it is advisable that you clean it with detergents that are fragrance free.

He has been given treatment according stool report which is sufficient to cover infection. 4 or 5 times stool / day is not abnormal if baby is active and gaining wt. I suggest to change his eating habits since motions have started with weaning time as symptoms started 2 months ago. Continue breast feeding and withdraw some of complementary food and thereafter add another one once he starts digesting.

Hello. Yes you may repeat it if one month has passed since the last dose. Ideally the dose of deworming drug is repeated after 6 months. Take care of hygiene for whole family in form of washing hands before meals, while preparing meals and after passing motion. Take care!

My newborn is 14 days old today and had mild jaundice of 8.9 on 8th day. Doc has asked to feed him every 2.5 hours. I have following queries 1. Sometimes he keeps on sleeping beyond 2.5 hours and does not wake even after trying hard. Is it ok to let him sleep a little more until he wakes by himself. Sometimes at night I feel so sleepy that I let him sleep for more than 2.5 hours. Please suggest if its fine. I feed him properly during the day. 2. Shall I keep tab on 2.5 hours or let my baby wake on his own when hr is hungry. I have tried it once or twice and noticed he wakes up anytime between 2 to 4 hours by himself. 3. How to know that my baby is recovering from jaundice? Docs say it takes anytime between 20 to 30 days. Shall I be taking blood test to confirm?

Hello lybrate-user ji, gone through your queries, would like to suggest you to be calm and keep feeding the baby atleast 12 times a day average. It can be once in half an hour, if he is awake and once in 4-5 hours if the child is sleeping, you need not wake up the child for feeding as they tend to wake up and cry once they feel they are hungry, so need not bother if they sleep for long hours, all babies have some sought of jaundice during the first week and tends to settle down in another 1 -2 weeks, so need to worry about the jaundice as your child has crossed 2 weeks unless he is not feeding well or not passing urine well. Babies should pass urine minimum 6-7 times a day, that is a good indicator of good feeding. No need to do any blood test unless the child appears yellow or eyes are bright yellow.

I understand your concerns for your baby. Try to retract it gently on daily basis for a week or so. Donot be forceful. Normlly one should not retract before age of 2 years &It is normal till 2 years of age. If you are not successful even after 10-12 days then it needs to be operated. The condition is known as phimosis &operation is circumcision. Regards.

I am getting frequent farting problem please help. It does not used to be like this before.

MD - General Medicine

Excessive flatulence can be reduced or prevented with several methods such as modifying your eating habits, changing your diet to avoid those foods that cause you personally to produce excessive gas, avoiding dairy products if you are lactose intolerant. Get a stool test done to find out if you have any intestinal infection and take treatment according to the report.

If your baby is having fever then only you should give antibiotic. Otherwise just instill normal saline nasal drops 1 drop in each nostril 4-5 times in a day. Look for fast breathing, fever or toxic look of child, if you find anything abnormal consult a pediatrician.

Hello lybrate-user! Infant cry due to many reasons! Check if you have adequate breast milk coming! Formula milk is not digestible with all babies! They may vomit it out or they may cause constipation! Burp your baby after every feed! Try to c if her tummy have gas is she passes gas! Give colicaid drops if she is h ing discomfort in stomach! If you want you can give one time formula milk! Start with little amount! Take care.
