Dear lybrate-user, namaskar, forget about what you did in past. Now what you have to do is more important. Sleep early at night (sleep for 7-8 hrs) and get up early in the morning before sunrise and go for a morning walk / jogging / running for about 45-60 minutes. Join a gym if you can. Eat healthy food. All seasonal fruits and vegetables, proteins in the form of milk, curd, cheese, dry fruits. Consume 4-6 liters of water / fluids per day. Have positive approach and read good quality books. You will become strong physically and morally too. Take care.

Hi you can start physiotherapy treatment to strengthen the muscles around the knee joint. Meanwhile apply cold pack for 20 minutes thrice a day for 5 days. To reduce weight you can start swimming. Do reply for private consultation and detailed treatment plan wishing you a good health.

Possible cause-age is less so factors may be 1 prolong sitting (bad posture) with wallet. 2. Difference in height of both legs. 3. Sciatica. Treatment- back strengthening exercises, knee slides and quadriceps, avoid wallet, take minimum 15 days physiotherapy sessions for better result.

Hip Pain -- From Arthritis or Bursitis?


The hip is an area of the body dense with bone, ligaments, tendons, and muscles—all of which can cause pain if something goes wrong. Just like with low back pain, the source of hip pain can be difficult to pinpoint.


Hip bursitis pain usually originates from the outside of the hip.

What is hip bursitis?

Hip bursitis is often the culprit of hip pain. But because of its tendency to share symptoms with hip osteoarthritis or lower back pain, hip bursitis is known as “the Great Mimicker.”


Hip bursitis occurs when the hip joint’s bursa, a thin sack on the outside of the joint that protects it, becomes inflamed. Hip bursitis can be caused by an injury to the hip or by an underlying issue, such as a pinched nerve in the back.

Bursitis and osteoarthritis: comparing symptoms

A closer look at the symptoms of hip bursitis and hip osteoarthritis can help distinguish the two:

Hip bursitis symptoms:

Hip pain is on the outside of the lower hip
Pain can start sharply and gradually change to a dull ache
Pain may spread to the thigh, lower back, groin, or buttock
Pain is worse after prolonged inactivity (like sleeping or sitting) or repetitive activity (like jogging or climbing stairs)
Pain and tenderness may increase when pressure is put on the affected hip, such as when lying on your side


Hip osteoarthritis symptoms:

The pain originates from the inside of the hip joint, so it's often felt in the buttock, groin, and thigh as well as the hip
Pain and stiffness comes on gradually and gets worse over time
The hip feels stiff and inflexible
There may be grating or creaking sensations
Secondary pain may appear in the knee because of hip stiffness or deformity

My mother's age is 48. She used to feel pain in her left leg whenever she sat down and also in her lower back. We did an MRI scan. It showed that the disc L4-L5 & L3-L4 (a bit less) is suppressing the nerve which goes to left leg. The doctor (Neurologist) had given her medication. Then after consulting an orthopedic doctor he suggested that she will not need an operation. He also suggested that exercise, pranayama will cure her. Then she had around 15 sessions of physiotherapy till now. Physiotherapy helped her to ease her movement. But still her back pains a little. Also her nerve to the left leg pains a bit. She also has a pain in the inner side of her knee. The doctor said it is degeneration in the joints. She also had medication for Vitamin D3, hemoglobin, vatta dosha. She avoids food that causes vatta dosha. But still the pain continues. Hence I want to know what treatment should she follow ahead. I have 3 things in mind: 1. Operation- Technique (Per cutanius laser disc operation) which a doctor suggested, 2. Continue with exercise, 3. panchakrma and other Ayurvedic treatment. Or is there any other option? My mother is quite worried about this since my mother had an active lifestyle (daily walk and yoga) before she got diagnosed with slip disc. Does the problem remain for lifetime? Thank you for the patience and helping me out doctor.

She should continue Physiotherapy for at least one month. Also osteoporosis is a common cause of backpain. Get tests done to rule out osteoporosis. Slip disc can take a long time to recover. Operation is suggested only if all other methods fail to give significant relief.

1) do massage with warm sesame oil or suitable oil for 15 min. Afterwards take hot fomentation for 10 min. 2) start natural calcium supplement. 3) do regular stretching exercise 4) in yoga do bhujangasan, halasan & suryanamaskar. Life-style correction 1) correct your sitting posture. 2) take small pillow or back rest for lower back. 3) foot should rest to floor easily. 4) take small break after 1 hr & walk few steps. 5) do neck & upper back extension, give feedback after 4 days. Best treated with ayurved & panchakarma procedures. 1) massage + steam 2) pinda swedan 3) agnikarma.

Consult physiotherapist and start treatment. Don't sit on floor. Take calcium and multivitamin for 2 month. Get your x ray for knee joint done.

Advice... Avoid sitting Cross legged. Avoid Squatting- Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports Taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area Contrast Fomentation (Hot and Cold).
