Ladyfinger and its benefit for Diabetes
OKRA (BHINDI)

Many of my Diabetic people (I won’t call them patient as Diabetes is Lifestyle Disorder ) keep asking me about  Bhindi / Ladyfinger  and its benefit for Diabetes. So I thought of  compiling  up this scientific information for all My Sweet people. I hope you all find it useful.

Okra (Ladyfinger) is fast gaining a reputation as a so-called 'superfood' for people with or at risk of Diabetes or Cancer.

WHAT IS OKRA?
They are vegetables commonly used for making soups, stews or as a fried/boiled vegetable.

These tender pods are VERY LOW IN CALORIES, providing just 30 calories per 100 gms, and contain NO SATURATED FATS OR CHOLESTEROL. They are also rich in nutrients, completely Non-Toxic, and have No Adverse side effects.

HOW CAN IT HELP TREAT DIABETES?

Okra having Anti-Diabetic properties has increased in recent years, with multiple studies confirming Okra as a potent blood glucose-lowering (or Anti-Diabetic) food.

When  dried and ground okra peels and seeds are consumed they reduced blood glucose levels.

Many people with Diabetes have reported decreasing blood sugar levels after soaking cut-up okra pieces in water overnight and then drinking the juice in the morning, while in Turkey roasted okra seeds have been used as a traditional diabetes medicine for generations.

WHAT'S SCIENCE BEHIND THIS EFFECT?

The SUPERIOR INSOLUBLE FIBREcontained in okra is believed to help stabilize   Blood Glucose by SLOWING SPEED OF SUGAR  ABSORPTION   FROM THE INTESTINAL TRACT.

OTHER HEALTH BENEFITS

1.Rich in  vitamins and minerals.
2.Rich in Antioxidants
3.Preventing and improving constipation
4.Lowering cholesterol
5.Reducing the risk of some forms of Cancer, especially Colorectal Cancer
6.Improving energy levels
7.Improving symptoms of Depression
8.Helping to treat sore throat , ulcers and lung inflammation

TALK TO YOUR DIABETOLOGIST

If you are diagnosed with Diabetes and on medication, check with your Diabetologist  doctor that any natural remedies you plan on using are safe alongside prescription medicines (Insulin, Oral Hypoglycemic  Medicine etc) before making any changes to your diet and/or treatment.

Thank you for Reading it. I hope it has helped you.

Blocked Fallopian Tubes - How to Diagnose?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, Advanced Infertility

Blocked Fallopian Tubes - How to Diagnose?

The fallopian tubes are a part of a woman’s reproductive system. This is the passage through which the egg travels to meet the sperm and attach the end result to the lining of the womb or the uterine lining. In many cases, the fallopian tubes may get blocked, which can cause a series of complications, including infertility and other issues.

Read on to know more about the complications as well as the diagnosis.

Fallopian tubes: These are two thin tubes that flank either side of the uterus. It helps the matured egg from travelling from the ovaries to the uterus.

Blockage of fallopian tubes: Sexually transmitted diseases or STDs, as well as endometriosis, can cause a blockage in the fallopian tubes. The tubes can get blocked from one or both sides.

Complications: Blocked fallopian tubes can lead to major complications like early pregnancy loss as well as infertility. Every month, the ovaries release eggs during a cycle known as the ovulation cycle. During this period, the eggs leave the ovaries and travel through the fallopian tubes in order to reach the uterus, where they can possibly get inseminated with sperm, after which they will get fertilised and attach themselves to the uterine lining or the womb. In case the fallopian tubes are blocked, the eggs gets blocked and do not get a passageway to travel from the ovaries and into the uterus. This can lead to infertility as it will prevent fertilisation of the released egg. Furthermore, blocked fallopian tubes can also lead to tubal pregnancies, which will have to be terminated as it can lead to severe health risks.

Symptoms: So how can you find out whether your fallopian tubes are blocked? There are a number of symptoms that may be caused in the course of this condition. It is important to be even more careful about the symptoms because they may not be as obvious as other conditions, where irregular periods and heavy bleeding may point to the problem at the very onset. Pain in the lower abdomen and unusual discharge usually point to the problem. Also, loss of pregnancy due to the blockage is also a clear cut diagnosis.

Diagnosis: The diagnosis of the condition is done with the help numerous tests and imaging examinations conducted by a gynaecologist. A specialised X-ray called hysterosalpingogram or HSG is used in order to diagnose the issue. In this kind of examination, a dye is inserted through the uterus. This dye has a lens at the end, which shows the blockage and its extent. The doctor then conducts tests to find out the causes of this condition so that proper treatment may be followed. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an IVF Specialist.

You are suffering from Antral Gastritis. It is not a very serious problem but need to be treated immediately. Please meet your Doctor. Go to a Gastroenetrologist. For a proper antral gastritis treatment to be determined, it is essential that the doctor understands the cause of the problem. For example, if a bacterial infection is causing the antral gastritis, the infection may be treated by the doctor with antibiotics to prevent the disease from recurring. The doctor may also prescribe antacids to bring down the symptoms till the bacteria no longer causes the inflammation. Most individuals do not realize they have antral gastritis till the severity of the condition increases. Therefore, most people take some antacids over the counter to bring down the symptoms. When they start to have dark or bloody stools, nausea, gas, and severe ingestion, they may seek treatment for the disease with a doctor. The individuals who are affected may also get diagnosed when an endoscopic procedure is done for some other health issue. One of the most important antral gastritis remedies is to develop good eating habits. Consume foods that are light and avoid high fat foods like fried foods, butter, and fatty meats as they can delay the emptying of the stomach. Increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables like dates, eggplant, tomatoes, and green leafy vegetables. While there is no such antral gastritis cure, it is essential that you maintain a proper diet along with the treatment suggested by the doctor to bring relief. It is also important that when you notice any of the symptoms mentioned, you get checked immediately by a doctor and avoid taking over the counter medications to bring down the symptoms. The sooner the diagnosis is done and treatment given the less suffering you will experience.

I am 22 years female. Over last few months I have been gaining weight and I got stomach. At first it was slight and unnoticeable but now my stomach became very much bulged out and my weight also increased drastically which is appreciable. My hands also became fat. I am developing blackness around my neck and facial hair. I am even getting back pain. Back pain is occurring once in a while but causing a lot of discomfort. To overcome my problems I started regular exercise and diet control to an extent possible but there has been no result, instead my symptoms are worsening. I can't any more changes to my diet or any vigorous exercises as I am a student and my lifestyle is sedentary, and I stay in hostel. I visit home once in 15 days. Then fed up of my appearance I went to doctor. Doctor has done ultrasound of abdomen and confirmed bilateral polycystic ovaries. After it is confirmed my doctor has asked me to keep those reports safely as it will be useful in future for the purpose of treatment, and as of now according to my doctor I don't require treatment as pcos generally exist in many girls in my age and it's not a major concern unless they get married, it's generally after marriage that complications arise. So my doctor did not give me any medications. I was little bit dissatisfied as I my major concern which dragged md to doctor was my increasing weight and stomach and according to meif the underlying cause pcos is treated then my other problems will be solved so I am planning to consult another doctor soon. I Want to know from Lybrate doctors whether my doctor is right or wrong and whether I should consult and other doctor and get treatment done.in case of treatment generally what medication do they prescribe and will be effective? My periods are regular.

DGO, MBBS
Sexologist,
Breast pain is a common problem if it occurs before periods, because it happens due to hormonal changes, however if the pain stays all through the month or if you can feel some lump/swelling then you may need to do ultrasound examination of breasts. Wearing a well fitting bra may help.
