If you wear makeup, get into the habit of removing it before you go to bed. It's a hassle, for sure, but makeup that stays on your face can clog pores, leading to acne.

Im 18 year old my boyfriend is also 18 year old if we want abortion where should we go and how many hours will abortion take if its before 10 weeks i.e through pills?

Navratri Fasting - Is It Okay To Go On Fast When Pregnant?

MBBS, DGO, DNB

Navratri Fasting - Is It Okay To Go On Fast When Pregnant?

If you are pregnant and considering fasting during the festive season, it might not be a good idea. As per studies, fasting during any trimester of the pregnancy can have detrimental effects on the unborn child.

During the 1st trimester, your baby is in a very delicate stage. It is better not to fast during this period of time. Similarly, fasting during the 3rd trimester is also very much unsafe. However, if you are healthy and have no pregnancy-related complications then you can fast but only after consulting your doctor. Remember that your baby depends on you for food. So, it is always good to avoid going completely without food when on fasting during pregnancy.

Below given are a few tips to be followed by pregnant women when going on Navratri fasting:

  1. Consult your doctor: The doctor should always be consulted before deciding to fast. Different women have different risk levels, and there can be chances of diseases like diabetes and threats of miscarriage. The doctor will be the sole person to gauge the degree of risk associated and give a proper solution.
  2. Stay hydrated: Consume lots of water. This should be done to avoid dehydration. Dehydration can lead to hardening of tummy or cases of pre-term labor. It can also result in dry skin and mouth, fatigue, intense feelings of thirst and dark urine.
  3. Sleep well: While fasting, pregnant women experience a lot of stress compared to others. There is the combined physical exertion of pregnancy and fasting. This can take a serious toll on health. It is always advisable that they sleep for long and stay relaxed.
  4. Eat healthily: Eating healthy is very important as then only, the baby will get enough nutrients. In this regard, a healthy diet plan, given by the doctor should be followed. Consumption of 2-3 types of fruits throughout the day is essential as they are rich in natural sugars and minerals. This helps in maintaining the energy levels of the body. Moreover, the fast should always be broken with healthy and nutritious foods. As the body does not get food, for the entire day, gobbling something deep fried and oily after the fast ends, is not at all a good idea. High sugar foods or caffeinated drinks like coffee and tea should be avoided during fast.
  5. Look out for warning signs: The would-be mother should always look out for warning signs. This includes severe dehydration, weight loss, constipation, indigestion, nausea, dizziness, headaches, lethargy, fever and even a reduction of the baby’s movement inside the womb. These are indications that the body cannot cope with the stress associated with fasting. These physical conditions should be immediately reported to the doctor.

Keep these important tips in mind in order to enjoy the festive spirit along with a healthy and safe pregnancy!  If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.

Hello. Don't worry .Spotting and cramping during the first few weeks (or even months) after ParaGard insertion is completely normal. In summary, cramping and spotting eight days after insertion is common, and even to be expected. However, you should contact your health care provider if you suspect any unusual or severe side effects. Contact your health care providerr if you experience cramping or spotting that lasts longer than 90 days, or if you experience chills, fever, unusual or bad smelling vaginal discharge, heavy bleeding, severe abdominal pain or tenderness, symptoms of pregnancy, or signs of the device shifting place or becoming dislodged. Take care.

How Ayurveda is Useful in Preventing Lifestyle Diseases

How Ayurveda is Useful in Preventing Lifestyle Diseases

With the increase in environmental pollution, professional work load, proliferating stress, unhealthy lifestyle choices and general dietary indiscipline, the incidence of lifestyle diseases like hypertension, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular diseases has increased manifold over the last two decades.

Other commonly occurring lifestyle diseases include depression, joint pain, fatigue, arthritis, metabolic disorders, early degenerative changes, early aging, respiratory diseases and gynaecological disorders. Nearly all of them can be traced back to improper ingestion and nutrition, lack of calmness and focus, constant feeling of agitation, listlessness or jitteriness, sedentary or workaholic professional life, or inadequacy of physical exercise and leisure time.

  1. Ayurveda and its many uses have since then become important remedial procedures that more and more people are adopting to salvage their health. Its holistic view towards physiological and mental development has brought it to the forefront of non-medicinal remedies for various ailments and general malaise.

  2. Ayurveda also brings about visible psychological and spiritual changes in the subject, thus securing an all round development in one’s lifestyle.

  3. With proper and suitable lifestyle advice, dietary restrictions and daily-activity management, Ayurveda solves problems that people normally seek to solve with allopathic drugs. Not only is it more effective, Ayurveda therapies and treatments have zero to negligible side effects. The same can however not be said for pharmaceutical drugs.

  4. Panchakarma treatment is among the most popular of Ayurveda therapies and it is a rigorous process of detoxification and purification. It suggests and expects you to follow renewed diet charts and exercise routines even after the treatment is technically over.

  5. Other rejuvenation therapies include Rasayana, Dinacharya, Ritucharya that also help in bettering your lifestyle.

  6. These treatments help to keep your body-weight in check, hypertension at bay and enable you to be lighter, freer and happier in general.

  7. It assists in dealing with stress, anxiety, tension, agitation, irritability and misery in a healthier manner.

  8. Once you overcome these symptoms of decadent lifestyle that is all around us today, you will automatically rise above crippling lifestyle diseases better than others.

I had unprotected sex on my 5 day of my period to should I take I pill or not to avoid pregnancy.
Hi, no need to take pill as it's on 5th day of period. Usually 8 to 21 days you require protection.(this is roughly considering 28-30days cycles. Not same for all).

I want to kn ow sex is a good exercise And please tell me tricks of safe sex. Please tell.

MBBS

I want to kn ow sex is a good exercise And please tell me tricks of safe sex. Please tell.
One way to have safer sex is to only have one partner who has no sexually transmitted infections, and no other partners than you. But this isn't always the safest kind of safer sex. That's because most people don't know when they have infections. So they can spread STDs without knowing it. And not everyone is honest about their STD status, either. This is why it’s a good idea to get tested for STDs regularly. It’s even better to go with your partner and get tested together, so you know each other’s status. Some STDs have specific things you can do to lower your risk. For example, you can get the HPV vaccine to protect against the types of HPV that most commonly cause cancer. If you are at very high risk for HIV (like if your partner has HIV), you can talk with a doctor or nurse about using Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). This pill can lower your risk of getting HIV if you take it every day. It's also important to find other ways to practice safer sex. There are kinds of sex that don’t spread STDs. And there are kinds of sex that have a very low risk of spreading STDs. You may want to think about avoiding vaginal and anal intercourse — which have the highest risk of passing STDs — and sticking to other, safer kinds of sex.

Heart Health: Ayurveda to Reduce High Cholesterol

Heart Health: Ayurveda to Reduce High Cholesterol

Ayurveda has remedies that can help you control cholesterol and improve heart health.

Cholesterol is something that the body needs to build and maintain cellular health. Technically it is known as a lipid and is a fatty or wax-like material that circulates in the bloodstream.
There are two kinds of cholesterol, and you have probably already heard about them, but they are:
LDL - this is the "bad" cholesterol that can cling to arterial walls and create blockages that result in strokes and heart attacks.
HDL - this is the good type that is going to actually protect you from heart disease.
We get cholesterol from our foods, but our bodies can also make it too. Hence this leads to high levels of cholesterol in the arteries.
In ayurveda- certain herbs, ayurvedic treatments and remedies can lower high cholesterol. These are:

- Garlic: Garlic is the most common herb that is used in Indian cooking and no dish tastes the same without it. Having two to three garlic cloves a day can break down bad cholesterol and free it from the arterial walls.
- Coriander: This green herb adds freshness, flavour and colour to any meal. Coriander is a diuretic that will flush out waste and even excess cholesterol.
- Tulsi: Tulsi disintegrates cholesterol from the arteries and washes it from the body.
- Guggul : Guggul is a sap from the Mukul myrrh tree. There are several products made from Guggul that helps to reduce high cholesterol.
- Arjuna or Terminalia Arjuna: Arjuna’s white bark has medicinal properties that dissolve cholesterol from the arteries.

Know More About PCOS!

Doctor of Medicine, DGO
Gynaecologist,
Know More About PCOS!

His month we’d like to talk with you about pcos (polycystic ovary syndrome), the most common cause of female infertility and hormonal disorder among women of reproductive age.

This information is mainly for women who are experiencing difficulty getting pregnant as well as women done having babies and having irregular menstrual bleeding, acne, excess body hair growth, and/or difficulty losing weight.

Pcos symptoms

•menstrual period becoming irregular with or without difficulty getting pregnant.•menses are prolonged or infrequent over the last several months.•unwanted or excess hair growth on upper lip, chin, between breasts, on the lower abdomen, or the inner thighs.•acne.•consistent weight gain or difficulty losing weight.

How pcos occurs

•the pituitary gland secretes high levels of lh (luteinizing hormone) and the ovaries make excess androgens such as testosterone.•these increased hormone levels disrupt the normal menstrual cycle, interfere with ovulation, and lead to excess body hair and acne.•when ovulation does not occur, the egg is not released from the follicle and it forms a small cyst along the outer edge of the ovary, forming the “polycystic” appearing ovary.•it should be noted that all women diagnosed with pcos do not have polycystic appearing ovaries.

How we treat pcos
If you have pcos symptoms and live in virginia beach, norfolk, chesapeake, portsmouth or hampton roads, we encourage you to schedule an appointment with one of our gyn doctors or nurse practitioner. Our gyn clinic will take a complete history of your menstrual cycle, pregnancies, recent weight changes, medical problems including diabetes, family history, medications you take, and surgeries you have had.

We will also perform a physical examination including a blood pressure check, weight, pelvic examination, blood tests, and possibly a vaginal ultrasound (likely done as a second visit).

Your gyn doctor will explain everything that is being done and why it is necessary. Once the test results have returned, you will have a follow-up appointment with your gynecologist to go over the results and come up with a treatment plan that resolves your problem in a way that works for you.

If the goal is a pregnancy, we will work with you to achieve that goal. Our treatment would likely include medication such as clomid to induce ovulation. That can be done through a reproductive endocrinologist. Anything more involved than clomid would need to be done through a specialist your gynecologist would recommend.

If the goal is to regulate your menstrual cycle and bring a little predictability back to your life, we can help with that as well. That can be done with oral contraceptives, the nuvaring, or taking progesterone for 10-14 days each month if you prefer to avoid a birth control pill.

If the goal is to treat the excess androgens and reduce excess body hair growth, we can treat that with a medication called aldactone. It is actually a diuretic, but it has been successful in several patients with slowing regrowth of hair after it has been removed by other means.

But first we need to determine what is causing the problem. Perhaps it is pcos, but there are other possibilities as well.

More about pcos
Pcos is associated with diabetes and excess insulin production (also known as insulin resistance). Some patients who are diagnosed with pcos may already have diabetes and some may be at risk for it in the future. This is important to know so it can be periodically screened for. We see a fair amount of women in india who fall into this category.

There is also research being done to determine if pcos is hereditary. Therefore, if your mother or sister has pcos, you may be at increased risk too. The final results of that research have not yet been released.

It is not normal, nor is it safe, to skip periods unless it is medically supervised by your gyn doctor. If your body is not having regular menstrual bleeding, you need to have that checked by a gynecologist. If it is not caused by menopause or by hormone manipulation prescribed by your doctor, you could be at risk for cancer of the uterus.

Pcos patients need to talk to their gynecologist and have a plan for having regular menstrual bleeds in order to prevent the risk of uterine cancer that can be associated with skipping periods. Women are sometimes so happy to not “deal with” bleeding, they do not stop to think about how they could be affecting their body. Please take this as a reminder -- it is not safe.

If you may be suffering from pcos symptoms, please schedule a consultation to discuss your symptoms and get a diagnosis. Once we know what we are dealing with, then the treatment plan is much easier to establish.

Symptoms and Diagnosis of Heart Attack

MBBS, MD - Medicine, DM - Cardiology
Cardiologist, Gurgaon
Symptoms and Diagnosis of Heart Attack

A person usually gets a heart attack when there is a blockage in the arteries of the heart. This is an emergency situation that can result in a fatality or death if it is not treated immediately. Not all heart attacks will have a crushing pain in the chest right in the beginning, there are a number of symptoms that can show the slow progression of this attack over a few hours. So how do you know if you are having a heart attack, and what kind of treatment will be required? This article seeks to answer all your questions.

Discomfort in the Chest: The patient will usually feel like there is some pressure and squeezing in the chest or pain or even fullness right in the centre. This pain can come and go every few minutes and it should not be ignored.

Pain and Discomfort in other Parts of the Body: There may be some amount of pain and discomfort in other parts of the body including the arms, the jawline, back, neck, stomach and even the teeth. This pain can also travel down to the abdomen above umbilicus. In case there is persistent pain along with the chest discomfort, then a doctor must be contacted immediately.

Other Symptoms: When you feel breathless without any reason or medical cause, and also when you experience symptoms like anxiety, indigestion, vomiting, nausea, light headedness, dizzy spells and fatigue, you may be suffering from a heart attack.

Immediate Treatment: Once you begin to experience these symptoms along with chest discomfort and chest pain, it is imperative to call the emergency unit of the nearest hospital or get in touch with a cardiologist. Until then, you will need to lie down and chew aspirin if you are not allergic to the same. This is usually more efficient that swallowing.

Diagnosis of heart attack: Heart attack is diagnosed if patient has 2 criteria out of following 3-

  1. Pain or discomfort thought to be due to heart disease

  2. ECG suggestive of heart attack

  3. Elevated levels of cardiac enzymes (CK-MB and Troponin) in blood test (these levels start rising after 6 to 12 hours of heart attack)

Once you reach doctor an ECG should be done immediately along with blood pressure and pulse. If ECG shows heart attack then immediate action needs to be taken. Remember a normal first ECG does not rule out a heart attack. So a series of ECGs may be ordered by the doctor and at proper time blood test of cardiac enzymes may be done. Ruling out a heart attack may need an observation and testing up to 6 – 12 hours as cardiac enzyme test shows results only after that period.
