Since when you have this condition? to help control the symptoms of an enlarged prostate, try to: limit beverages in the evening. Don't drink anything for an hour or two before bedtime to avoid middle-of-the-night trips to the toilet. Limit caffeine and alcohol. They can increase urine production, irritate the bladder and worsen symptoms. Limit decongestants or antihistamines. These drugs tighten the band of muscles around the urethra that control urine flow, making it harder to urinate. Go when you first feel the urge. Waiting too long might overstretch the bladder muscle and cause damage. Schedule bathroom visits. Try to urinate at regular times such as every four to six hours during the day to" retrain" the bladder. This can be especially useful if you have severe frequency and urgency. Follow a healthy diet prescribed by registered dietitan. Obesity is associated with enlarged prostate. Stay active. Inactivity contributes to urine retention. Even a small amount of exercise can help reduce urinary problems caused by an enlarged prostate. Urinate and then urinate again a few moments later. This practice is known as double voiding. Keep warm. Colder temperatures can cause urine retention and increase the urgency to urinate. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

Am 76 year. Have to go for urination 2 to 3 times in the night. Of course I drink 2 to 3 glasses of water before going to bed. I take 4 to 5 glasses of water during day time. Should I reduce the quantity of water? Every morning first thing I take Green tea with 2 table spoon of honey, one lemon juice and half tea spoon turmeric powder. I do't have any other ailment except hypertension for which I take regularly doctor's prescribed medicine. Thanking you in advance for your valued advice.

Hello sir. Sorry regarding your problem but I strongly advice you to go for ultrasonography of your pelvis done to see for prostate gland. Becoz enlargement of prostate (benign hpertrophy of prostate) is common in old age and it might lead to increased frequency of urine in night (nocturia). If your report comes out to be normal then you might try with reducing content of drinking water at night. Take care.

Hello- The active ingredient in most spicy foods that causes burning is capsicum. Capsicum is very hot and can vary in degree. These foods can can literally cause pain from the time you ingest them until they exit your body. Spicy foods, such jalapenos, also irritate the bladder. The amount of irritation can vary from person to person, but it may bother you enough that you definitely notice. It’s unknown as to exactly why jalapenos and other spicy foods cause bladder irritation. Once bladder irritation occurs, it may cause painful urination. Reduce spices in your diet to recover from burning and pain in testicles.
