My gall bladder was removed in 2010. Now a stone 3.2mm has entered the bile duct and I had to go for ercp. Why the stone did't pass to stomach. When the gall bladder has been removed, from where this stone have come up. Can it happen again. What is the treatment that stone does not come again.

MD
General Physician, Mumbai
Dear patient, greetings from lybrate! the stone would have possibly migrated from the gallbladder to the common bile duct. The gall bladder was removed but because of the size the stone could not pass all the way to the duodenum and has stuck in there. Hence ercp is the only way out for this. This is a very common occurrence and not to worry. If sphincterotomy is done with ercp then it will not happened again. I hope this helps.

Diet - How Important It Is For Kidney Transplant?

MBBS, Diploma in Public Health ( Preventive and Social Medicine)
General Physician, Navi Mumbai
Diet - How Important It Is For Kidney Transplant?

A kidney transplant is a surgical procedure that patients of kidney disease go through in order to replace a non functioning kidney with a live one that is healthy and functions well. Other methods to treat this disease also include dialysis, which basically is an artificial way of doing what our kidneys are designed to do. When dialysis does not work, many doctors recommend a kidney transplant. A replacement or donated kidney can come from a living donor or a non-living donor. This new kidney will mostly work towards keeping the blood clean, which is a function that stops when the old and diseased kidneys fail.

So, here's a list of five essential facts that you need to keep in mind if you are looking at a kidney transplant:

  1. Donors: While there are living and non-living donors, the doctor will have to ensure that your donor is someone who has no medical history of complications, kidney disease or any other medical condition like diabetes or hypertension. Also, the donor would have to have two proper functioning kidneys. Further, one of the most important factors is the blood group. The blood group of the donor and the patient must match for the transplant to be possible.
  2. Procedure: During the surgery, the patient will be under general anesthesia. The surgeon will make an incision in the lower abdomen area and the blood vessels of the new kidney will be connected surgically with the vein and iliac artery of the patient. Thereafter, any excess fluid will be drained before wrapping up the surgery.
  3. Rejection: The patient's body may also reject the kidney. The immune system of the patient may mistake the new kidney as an attacking body and its natural defenses may work against it, which will lead to complications. For this, doctors usually prescribe immunosuppressant medicines that will help in preventing such an eventuality.
  4. Longevity: While a living donor's kidney may last longer, a non-living donor's kidney will not enjoy such a long life. In such cases, a second transplant can be conducted.
  5. Diet: After the transplant, the patient will be required to go through a number of measures like coughing to show that the lungs are clear, as well as administration of fluids and some amount of examination and dialysis. Also, the patient will have to have a special diet that includes raw fruits and vegetables, and plenty of non-fat dairy ingredients.

A kidney transplant is a major operation that can change your lifestyle in the long run.

I have burning sensation in urine specially when I mix littlebot chilly in vegetables why. I feel fatigue also.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. It is really difficult answer why urine gives burning sensation if chilies are added to vegetables. Because it difficult to understand how those things pass or reach kidneys and then urine. Burning sensation in urine is due to increased acidity of urine, which tends to happen when there is urinary infection. My advise is to get a routine urine examination to check if there is infection and if it is present then a suitable antibiotic may be taken along with plenty of water as well as some alkaliser. Thanks.

I am a type 2 diabetes patient recently my creatinine level has gone a bit high 1.41 my doctor advice me to have low protein diet I being a nonvegiterian want to know what type of food I can have If I get a diet chart I will follow that meticulously please help

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Highest Amount of protein Meat, fish, poultry, eggs Milk, yogurt, cheese, peanut butter Small Amount of Protein Vegetables Starches such as breads, cereals, and pasta (the protein in these foods is of poorer but still good quality) Trace Amount of Protein Fruits Fats SugarsProtein is never completely eliminated from the diet. The physician and dietitian can determine how much protein the body is able to handle. However, since the amount of protein is limited, it is important to eat foods that contain high quality protein (meat, milk, fish, poultry, eggs, and peanut butter). These proteins are complete. They contain all the essential amino acids (building blocks of protein). Even though the protein in vegetables and starches is incomplete, it is still important to include these foods in a daily meal plan for a well-balanced diet. Salt and Sodium: Many people with serious kidney or liver disease may also need to limit salt or sodium intake because of high blood pressure or fluid retention. The greatest source of sodium in the diet is table salt. Therefore, the first step in reducing sodium intake is to limit the use of table salt. Certain other foods have a high sodium content and will also need to be limited.Meat and Meat Substitutes One serving contains 7 gm protein, 25 mg sodium. One serving equals: lean beef 1 oz chicken 1 oz fish 1 oz

Recently I have very bad itching in my anal area. I keep myself very clean without sweat. I can neither scratch hard nor leave the itching. please help me. I could feel some slight skin aberration near my anal area. I am 25, male from chennai.

MBBS, DNB (Dermatology)
Dermatologist, Mumbai
You could be having fungal infection. Fungal infection tends to affect folds of the skin, moist areas like groins, armpits, mouth, genitals, under the breasts, webs between fingers and toes, etc. Our skin protects us from fungal/yeast attack, but any cut or break in the continuity of the skin can allow penetration of fungus. It gives rise to rash, eruptions, redness, burning, intolerable itching and abnormal discharges at times. Fungal infection tends to last for many years if not treated well. It is also contagious.

I have problem with my prostate. I am facing problem with my urine. I have take many treatment with doctors but no relief.

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
Prostatitis treatments vary depending on the underlying cause. They can include: Antibiotics. This is the most commonly prescribed treatment for prostatitis. Your doctor will base the choice of medication on the type of bacteria that may be causing your infection. If you have severe symptoms, you may need intravenous (IV) antibiotics. You'll likely need to take oral antibiotics for four to six weeks but may need longer treatment for chronic or recurring prostatitis. Alpha blockers. These medications help relax the bladder neck and the muscle fibers where your prostate joins your bladder. This treatment may lessen symptoms, such as painful urination. Anti-inflammatory agents. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may make you more comfortable. Prostate massage. This is done by your physician using a lubricated, gloved finger — a procedure similar to a digital rectal exam. It may provide some symptom relief, but doctors disagree about how effective it is. Other treatments. Other potential treatments for prostatitis are being studied. These treatments include heat therapy with a microwave device and drugs based on certain plant extracts

Only certain body fluids—blood, semen (cum), pre-seminal fluid (pre-cum), rectal fluids, vaginal fluids, and breast milk—from an HIV-infected person can transmit HIV. Most commonly, people get or transmit HIV through sexual behaviors and needle or syringe use.

I hv urinary retention and I have been informed that Kub ultrasound cost is rupees 1000. What cost do I have to bear if some stone etc is found in ultrasound or some other problem. And what treatment or operation will I have to go through. Kindly ponder some info. On these two queries, thank you doctor.

BHMS
Homeopath,
Dear lybrate user, its better if you conduct usg of whole abdomen. It will cost around rs 1500. In case you have kidney stone, the usg report will describe the dimension of the stone. If the size of the kidney stone is below 3mm then it is possible to get rid of it without any surgery. Take homoeopathic mother tincture berberis vulgaris q, 30 drops, thrice daily, after meals, in a cup of water for 15 days. The stone will be expelled through urine in between the span of 15 days of medication. But if the size of the stone is more than 3mm then you should surely go for surgery.
