Please suggest. Is balloon dilation method for eustachian tube dysfunction available in india?

Please suggest. Is balloon dilation method for eustachian tube dysfunction available in india?
Yes! Most corporate hospitals will offer you this option but as it is still imported, it is expensive, unlike Balloons of Balloon Sinuplasty (Balloon cost is ₹34000-MRP). We are all awaiting our Indian manufacturers to introduce Eustachian Tube balloons.

You have two options. Try using AutoCPAP or BiPAP devices (take a trial. If it suits you, purchase it. But remember, this is a lifetime decision) or go in for Sleep Apnoea Surgery. Many people come down to Bengaluru (like Delhi CM Kejriwal) for Sleep Apnoea Surgery, as it is relatively inexpensive here as compared to Mumbai & Ahmedabad. You are welcome to drop into my clinic with all your previous Sleep Study and dynamic Sleep MRI scan reports and let me help you.

I have allergy from ciprofloxacin can I take moxifloxacin. I was diagnosed for tonsil infection. I was given moxifloxacin. Is it okay if I take it? Will I get allergic attacks?

No, both belong to the same family. Best you get a intradermal test dose of Moxifloxacin. If there is no reaction, you could use it.

Dizziness - Ways To Treat It!

MBBS, Diploma In Otorhinolaryngology (DLO)
ENT Specialist, Bangalore
Dizziness - Ways To Treat It!

Dizziness is usually described as a variety of sensations, which comprise of a feeling of faintness, unsteady, weak, light-headed, giddy or woozy. When dizziness causes a false feeling of spinning and the moving surroundings, it is known as vertigo.

Dizziness can be one of the most common reasons for a visit to the doctor. However, constant feeling of dizziness can affect a person's life drastically, but it is rarely life threatening. The treatment of dizzy sensation and dizziness mostly depends on the symptoms.

Causes of Dizziness

The common causes of dizziness are hypertension, certain medication, motion sickness and ear problems, especially disturbances of the inner ear. An injury, infection or poor blood circulation can also lead to dizziness. The triggers of dizziness and the sensations it provides are used to evaluate the cause. Also, the duration of the dizziness and the symptoms lead to a clue towards the cause of the same.

Dizziness Caused by the Inner Ear Problems

The balance of the body depends on the combined effort of many parts of the sensory system. These are:

  1. Sensory Nerves: These send messages to the brain in regard to the body positions and its movements
  2. Inner Ear: The inner ear has the organ of Corti which are responsible for detecting the motions and thereby help in the balance of the body.

In vertigo a person might feel that the things around them are moving, thus creating a swaying or a spinning motion. Vertigo is usually caused by the problems of the inner ear.

The common causes are:

  1. Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), this happens when the calcium particles accumulate in the inner ear canals. The inner ear is responsible for the body movements and balance.
  2. Meniere's disease, a problem of the inner ear mainly caused by the build up of the fluids, thereby leading to a change in pressure. This causes vertigo along with hearing loss and tinnitus
  3. Vestibular neuritis is the problem of the inner ear and is largely due to infection. Infection leads to swelling of the nerves of the inner ear which affect the body movements.

Treatment of Vertigo Includes:

  1. Rehabilitation of the vestibular system by physical therapy in order to strengthen it.
  2. Canalolith repositioning exercises - body and head movements basically for BPPV. These movements help to move the Canaloliths(calcium deposits) from the inner ear canals to one of the chambers, which are further absorbed by the body. When the Canaloliths move, it might give rise to vertigo.
  3. Medicines are given to relieve symptoms of motion sickness and nausea. Antibiotics can be taken in case of infection and swelling
  4. Surgery in some cases.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

I am suffering from stammering problem. Please suggest Is there any treatment to cure permanently.

MBBS, Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO)

Stammering and stuttering have an underlying psychological element that must be resolved. You need to meet a Clinical Psychologist, and a Speech Therapist to help you out. This is a long drawn out treatment over a few months.

Hi,
last week I have used grenade fat burner for just 2 days 1 capsule early morning empty stomach so 2 day I observe...
If you go through the ingredients of Grenade, you will notice Green Coffee extract. This is what raises your basal metabolic rate. This increases your energy levels so you must utilise it by increasing the intensity of your workouts. However, it is contraindicated in people with hypertension and heart disease. So please meet a cardiologist and get yourself a proper medical fitness evaluation before taking such fat burners. Ideally these burners are used by athletes for about 3-4 weeks when they want to do high intensity workouts. You will also notice high levels of urea and uric acid in your sweat which obviously means you need much more water intake during this period. Diet also plays a big role.

What is the cost of tympanoplasty with mastoidectomy. What are the complications and success rate of this surgery.

MBBS, Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO)
ENT Specialist, Bangalore
What is the cost of tympanoplasty with mastoidectomy. What are the complications and success rate of this surgery.
That is a difficult question to answer, as there are 4 types of tympanoplasty surgeries and 3 types of mastoidectomy surgeries with varying degrees of difficulty and surgical duration. Hospitals bill surgical cases depending upon the time and equipment used in the case and upon the bed type under which patient has been admitted. Branded corporate Hospitals with JCI certification (for international patients) cost a premium, followed by those with NABH certification ones. Senior experienced surgeons with a high rate of successful outcomes obviously charge more fees than Freshers just passed out from colleges! Hospitals in metros like Delhi, Mumbai charge more than that of Bengaluru and Hyderabad likewise smaller towns with lesser costs will charge less. These are best discussed with the doctors advising the surgery!

MBBS, Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO)

No, that is not a permanent solution. The only permanent solution is immunotherapy. Please search for an Allergist in your city to help you out. Apps like Lybrate should help you find a good Allergist in your city.

I have suffering from cough since last one year. Doctors say its allergic bronchitis but unable to cure. What I can do now? I am the only earning person in family.

MBBS, Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO)

Okay, no reason to panic! What your doctor meant was that in Allergies, the disease is in your environment not you. Your immune system has got sensitised to some inhaled allergen. You need to meet an Allergist who will help you identify the offending allergen/s that are causing your problem. Then, if it is an avoidable allergen, the doctor will suggest ways to avoid contact with the allergen. However, if it is unavoidable, you will have to resort to immunotherapy to desensitise to those specific allergen/s. This is a long process that takes 3-5 years. In the meanwhile you will also be prescribed inhaled and intranasal corticosteroids which will gradually reduce the inflammation caused by the allergy to your airways. In addition, certain exercises like Pranayama and Swimming will also help hasten the healing process. So, if you seriously want a solution, get ready for a long drawn out battle with the allergy along with your Allergist. It will take time and you will need to be patient. But ultimately you will win!
