I know i am overweight and I snore too much during my sleep so everyone beside me is having issues with this. So how can I overcome this snoring issue. Or snoring is a disease.

MBBS

Snoring occurs due to 1.obstruction of flow of air through mouth and nose as in obesity, nasal obstruction due to polyp, DNS, Sinusitis, 2.alcohol, use of sleeping pill, 3.smoking, consumption of tobacco. 4.It may be due to relaxed throat muscle in elderly and in children due to Tonsillitis. 5.Consult ENT specialist to exclude nasal causes of snoring

Never use any oil in your ears. If you have consulted ent surgeon and your ear are ok than you should take opinion of a dentist because many times pain of dental infection starts from ear and gradually it localised to the relevant tooth.

"For mild sore throat, try with salt water gargles using little warm water, taking care not to use too hot water, and take pain killer if required. If you are not ok in 1-2 days, consult back. Try sending picture of your throat. If you have fever, you may need additional medicines as well. If symptoms are severe, please consult an ENT Doctor immediately. Please see that it may be more beneficial if you add honey and salt to the gargle solution. Add 1 spoon of honey and half spoon of salt to half glass of water to make gargle solution. Also, if you are s smoker, you need to quit smoking and alcohol.

Cannot see the pic of your nose which you have uploaded. But yes Rhinoplasty can be the answer for an unusually large nose. However keep realistic expectations and tell your doctor what exactly you want. Thick skin means it will be a difficult surgery to give you great results. Please visit a plastic surgeon with photos of your nose in all angles to get a proper idea.

MBBS, cc USG
General Physician, Noida
Hi, I am 37 years old I got big belly. Every night my snores disturbing others. How to stop it? Please advise.
I am giving you some health tips for snoring problem Lifestyle changes to stop snoring Lose weight. If you’re overweight Exercise exercising your arms, legs, and abs, for example, also leads to toning the muscles in your throat, which in turn can lead to less snoring Quit smoking. smoking irritates the membranes in the nose and throat which can block the airways and cause snoring. Avoid alcohol, sleeping pills, and sedatives because they relax the muscles in the throat Establish regular sleep patterns. Create a healthy bedtime ritual with your partner and stick to it Clear nasal passages. If you have a stuffy nose Keep bedroom air moist. Dry air can irritate membranes in the nose and throat, so if swollen nasal tissues are the problem, a humidifier may help. Change your sleeping position. Elevating your head four inches may ease breathing Sleep on your side instead of your back Consult chest Physician for further management

I have pain in my ears what should I do?

Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO), MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist,
I have pain in my ears what should I do?
Pain in ear can have multiple reasons. 1. Ear reasons: any infection, inflammation, tumor, collection inside the ear can result in earache. It can be in outer ear or middle ear or inner ear. 2. Dental reasons: any toothache, tooth infection, gingival infections can cause referred pain in the ear because of shared nerve supply 3. Neck problem: cervical spondylosis and other neck problems cause referred pain in the ear. 4. Mouth and throat: infections of head and neck spaces, larynx, pharynx, tonsils, tongue all can cause referred pain to the ear. Hence it is imperative that you see an ent surgeon in person for ascertaining the exact cause for the earache and better treat the cause.

Nosebleed - 8 Tips to Prevent it

Nosebleed - 8 Tips to Prevent it

There are various type of nosebleed that can be caused by a variety of conditions. While some of them may not be too serious, one must never ignore heavy and persistent nosebleed. Nosebleeds are of two kinds: anterior nosebleed and posterior nosebleed. While 90% of all nosebleeds are anterior nosebleeds, the posterior nosebleeds are far less common and may be slightly more serious in nature. An anterior nosebleed is usually caused in the blood vessels that lie on the front portion of the nose and can be controlled easily. A posterior nosebleed usually comes from damage to an artery in the rear portion of the nose. Infection, trauma, allergic reactions and other such causes may be behind a nosebleed.

Let us cast a glance on the tips to prevent nosebleeds.

  1. Salt water and saline nose drops can be used in order to prevent nosebleeds. It is important to take these on a regular basis in case you are experiencing these nosebleeds on a regular basis.
  2. You can also consult doctor, who may prescribe blood thinners so that the blood does not clot and lead to a nosebleed. You will need to ensure that you take such medication only when the doctor prescribes the same.
  3. The use of painkillers like Aspirin and other non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs must be limited. Sometimes, taking such medication too frequently may lead to nosebleeds.
  4. You would do well to control your blood pressure because hypertension and other forms of high blood pressure can also cause nosebleeds. Lifestyle changes like your diet and exercise can help in keeping a more stable blood pressure level so that you do not fall prey to frequent nosebleeds.
  5. Humidify your home with a humidifier so that the air does not get too dry. Many times, this causes nosebleeds. Also, you may want to keep the heat down in the bedrooms. Many nosebleeds happen due to too warm temperatures while you are sleeping.
  6. Nose picking should also be discouraged as it can lead to nosebleeds in case there is a scratch or any other kind of damage when you try to force the dirt out.
  7. It has also been found that smoking has a connection with nosebleeds. This can be fixed if the patient quits smoking.
  8. One should not use nasal sprays without a prescription from a doctor. This also includes antihistamines, decongestants as well as other medicated sprays. These may not suit the patient at all times, and may also lead to nosebleeds.

In the event of a nosebleed, you will need to lean forward with your head tilted backwards. This will stem the bleeding. If it is possible, you must also try and lie down immediately for a few minutes.
