Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain.

It might be because of bad posture while standing walking and sitting try to correct your posture, and you can use hot fermentation that will reduce your pain. For that dip a towel in to hot water squeez it and wrap around your lower back.

Know more about the symptoms and types for frozen shoulder

Good morning everybody, I am doctor Rakesh Kumar, I am senior consultant in orthopedics in Apollo hospital, Jivan mala and MGS hospital. Today I am going to give health tips on frozen shoulder. Frozen shoulder is named as Adhesive Capsulitis. Adhesive Capsulitis is a condition in which contracted thickened joint capsules that seem to be drawn tightly around a humeral head in the absence of synovial fluid and chronic inflammatory changes within the subsynovial layer of the capsule occurs. The underlying pathological change in adhesive capsulitis are sinonasal inflammation, with subsequent reactive capsular fibrosis, cytokines and metaloprotanysis have been implicated in the process but the initial triggering event in the cascades is unknown. Incidence is 2%, but several conditions are specified with increased incidence, includes gender—i.e more common in females, more common in older ages—between 40 to 70 years, 5 times more common in diabetes mellitus, cervical disc diseases, prolonged immobilization, hyperthyroidism, stroke, or myocardial infections, the presence of autoimmune disease and trauma.

Individuals between ages 40 to 70 are more commonly affected, approximately 70% patients are females. 20% to 30% of affected individuals develop adhesive capsulitis in the opposite shoulder. Frozen shoulder in patients who report no inciting event and with no abnormality are designated as primary whereas in patients with precipitant traumatic injuries are designated as secondary. We have noted that internal rotation frequently is lost in sleep followed by loss of fluctuation and external rotation, most often our patients can internally rotate only upto the sacrum, have 50% loss of external rotation and have less than 90 degree of abduction.
We include these patients in the diagnosis of frozen shoulder.

Primary frozen shoulder have three phases-

Phase 1 is a phase of pain, patients usually have a gradual onset of diffused shoulder pain which is progressive over weeks to months, the pain usually is worse at night, and is exacerbated by lying on the affected side as the patient uses the arm less leading to stiffness.

Phase 2 is stiffness, Patient seeks pain relief by restricting movements this heralds the beginning of stiffness phase which usually lasts for 4 to 12 months. Patients describe difficulty in activity of daily living, men have trouble getting to their wallets in their back pockets while females have trouble with fastening their brassieres.

Phase 3 is pain thawing phase, this phase lasts for weeks or months. And as motion increases pain diminishes without treatment other than benign neglect motion return is gradual in most but may never objectively return to normal. Although most patients subjectively feels near normal, they make adjustments in ways of performing activities of daily livings.

Treatments- Frozen shoulder has been considered as self limiting condition lasting 12 to 18 months without long term sick leave.  Approximately 10% of patients have long term problems. The best treatment of frozen shoulder is prevention. But early intervention is paramount. A good understanding of the pathological process by the patient and the physician also is important.

If you need further clarification and have any question and need any treatment you can contact me through Lybrate.

If you have a complete tear - then surgery is the only option as it will prevent early osteoarthritis of the knee joint and other complications.

I am an 18year old female, and I have cervical spondylosis for the last 2years. Can you suggest some exercises for me?

CCP, MBA, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Karnal
The best exercises are those involving stretching the neck backwards, as that works against cervical spondylosis. In yoga, start doing bhujangasana, tadasana, gomukhasana etc. Don't use pillows while sleeping. Put cow ghee 2 drops in nose daily. Massage with medicated oil followed by fomentation. This will relax the muscles. If it is more, then go for greeva vasti at a panchakarma centre.

Fever is not considered medically significant until body temperature is above 100.4 F (38 C). Fever serves as one of the body's natural defences against bacteria and viruses which cannot live at a higher temperatures. Also, the body's defence mechanisms seem to work more efficiently at a higher temperature -Fevers of 104 F (40 C) or higher may be dangerous and demand immediate treatments like: -Acetaminophen (dolo-650 mg) twice or thrice can be used to lower a fever . Aspirin should not be used for fever in children/ adolescents or during a viral illness. -Wear loose fitting clothes and don’t overdress. Overdressing can cause temperature to rise further. -Tepid water (85 F [30 C]) baths may help bring down a fever -The body should be cooled with a wet sponge. -A fever can cause severe dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids.. Have citrus fruits, particularly Vitamin C rich ones like mausami, Amla juice etc. -Take light and easily digestible home cooked meals .avoid outside food -Wash hands frequently with soap and water especially after returning from public places or public transport. -Further therapy depends on the cause of fever like urinary infection/typhoid or malaria/dengue infection and the accompanying symptoms that need to be investigated and treated accordingly

Your weight 61 kg is normal. If your backache is not severe then you should do back bending extension exercises regularly. Use a comparatively tough mattress instead of thick spongy or springy ones. Do not bend forwards and avoid lifting heavy objects. If you follow this routinely then there should be regression of your pain and it will prevent any possible pressure on your spinal roots in future. An xray of lumbosacral part of vertebral column will help in finding any space reduction between the vertebrae and possibility of root friction with the discs due to prolapse.

IT IS DIFFICULT TO SAY ABOUT YOUR PROBLEM. BECAUSES, I DONT KNOW WHETHER YOUR KNEE INJURED OR NOT? WE NEED TO DO SOME SPECIAL TEST OF ORTHOPEDICS. OR YOU CAN SHOW ME KNEE MRI OR X RAY. SO WE CAN JUDGE BETTER.

. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. Specific knee exercises will also help ie. Keeping ball underneath the knee and keep pressing it. That's the simple exercise which will help you to strengthen the knee.
