Hello, thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. Both hamstring and quadriceps are important group of muscles required for proper functioning of leg especially in athletes. It gets injured when:- 1) there is a muscular imbalance between two group of muscles 2) inadequate warm up before participation in sporting activity 3) fatigue due to over activity 4) sudden acceleration which may stretch a muscle beyond a particular point leading to injury how to prevent it: 1) I always tell to my patients who indulge in sporting activities to do a proper pre-match warm up which relaxes muscles 2) proper and systematic physical therapy for actually both group of muscles 3) to not increase exercise intensity by more than 10% per week 4) if there is a feeling of tightness, then stop exercises ( it is an indication ) please let me know if you need any further help. Hi dear lybrate user if you have back pain since long time you must always consult a doctor in physical who can examine and tell you why this is happening. But if it is a mild and pain of recent origin, modern medicine would suggest you some painkillers and muscle relaxants, but these have temporary results only and long term usage of these medicine have side effects. So the best treament would be homeopathic medicine (like bryonia and rhustox are common homeopathic medicine) for internal medication and along with this take phyisiotherapy session for 3-4 days only and you will be completely fine.

Apply hot fomentation Do contrast bath therapy for hands- take hot water in one bowl & cold in another, first dip your hands in hot water for 3min then immediately in cold water for 1min, keep repeating for 20min twice a day Do hand & leg stretching Go for morning & evening walk Drink plenty of fluids

Do consult Ophthalmologist for eye ailment and do take IFT and laser Therapy for pain relief for about 12 days followed by strengthening exercise from Neuro physiotherapist best wishes

Kindly show me a photograph of the affected part. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, contact me again. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have mentioned pain at upper part of hip. Di you have any lower back pain with referred pain to hip region, any other associated symptoms like numbness, paresthesias or weakness in limbs etc? please send me x ray pelvis with both hips-ap so that I can see how your hip joint looks like. Also is there any restriction of movements at hip joint as well? you can start with: - physical therapy of hip and lower back with your physiotherapist - daily walks for 2-3 km per day - short course of any anti-inflammatory medication which suits you and let me know in 2-3 weeks time how you are feeling about your pain? do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Hi = relax and stay positive. = increase fluid intake. = eat seasonal fruits for natural vitamins = do stretching of hamstring, quadriceps, and calf muscles. = if you are overweight, reduce weight by cycling or swimming as it gives low impact on joints. = do check your calcium and vit. D = apply moist heat pad to affected joint and muscles. If still you don't get relief consult physiotherapist as there are various causes for leg/ joint pain and some test may be required for further investigation. Best wishes.

Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

Sprain Versus Strain

A sprain refers to a break or a tear in any of the ligaments of your body. A ligament is a band consisting of tissues that connect the bones at any given joint in our body.

A strain on the other hand refers to a tear or a break in the entire muscle itself or a tendon (the band of tissues that connect the muscle to the bones).

Occurrence: Sprains usually take place due to unforeseen incidents like falls, accidents, and such other things that forces the body part to go out of its normal position. The most common types of sprains that people suffer from are ankle sprains which affect about 25,000 people every day on a worldwide basis.Strains usually happen when you twist a whole muscle or a tendon. This condition most commonly occurs in cases of sportspersons who are engaged in contact sports like hockey, football, rugby, and such others.

Symptoms :The identification signs of sprains and strains are mostly very similar, which are listed below:

  1. Pain and discomfort in the joints
  2. Visible swelling or inflammation seen on the joints
  3. Bruising of the affected area
  4. Tenderness and softness of the affected joint

The overall intensity of the above mentioned symptoms might differ basis on the severity of the condition that is directly proportional to the nature of injury that you have faced. Some pains are so light that it may not affect your daily routine at all, whereas some pains are so intense, that you might not be able to move your affected joint at all.

Treatment: Some of the common methods to cure a sprain or a strain are listed below:

  1. Rest the area which is affected
  2. Apply ice bags or cold compress to soothe the pain
  3. Compress the affected joint using a compression tape
  4. Place the affected joint on an elevated area to speed up the healing process

What is your occupation? exercises to correct posture infront of the mirror will help.and also ergonomic advice taken as per your job to maintain corrcet posture at work will help. You can consult a physiotherapist for this,kinesio taping can also be done to correct round shoulders.

I have shoulder pain for the past six months.Doctor advised me to take blood test.Test result shows vitamin D ,calcium deficiency.He has give three Vitamin D injections,zing call tablet daily one for three months and suggested physio theropy exercise.I am doing the exercise five days in a week.Even then my shoulder pain still persists.Kindly advise.

There r multiple reasons for shoulder pain could be due to cervical origin or muscular tendinitis or frozen shoulder.
