Hello Doctor, Can you suggest the healthy diet for a Liver cirhossis patient? Thanks, Daisy.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
The best defense against this development is to maintain a healthy diet, with a variety of fruits and vegetables. You also need protein, contrary to outdated but still circulating advice to limit this food group if you have cirrhosis. Choose lean protein, such as legumes, poultry or fish. Avoid raw seafood.A wholesome, well-balanced diet can help maintain a level of liver health or minimize further liver damage. It can also help your immune system fight off illness. Some specific things to keep in mind include the following: Avoid drinking alcohol. It damages liver cells and even a small amount can be harmful. Avoid Some foods that contain high amounts of sodium are: Table salt. Bacon, sausage, and deli meats. Canned vegetables and vegetable juice. Frozen dinners and packaged snack foods, such as potato chips and pretzels. Soy, barbecue, and teriyaki sauces. Soups.

The treatment depends on the cause of erectile dysfunction. Some of the common causes are, 1. Diabetes. 2. Prostate Enlargement. 3. Heart problems. 4. Problems in low back affecting the low back nerves. 5. Low testosterone levels. In this regard I would like to advise you to get the following tests done and revert back with reports. Fasting and postprandial blood sugars, TSH, Ultrasound pelvis and scrotum, Serum testosterone levels. Once the cause is corrected Erectile dysfunction will resolve automatically.

I am 25 male. And I have a concern regarding allergies that I have. I have severe dust and dust mite allergy plut wheat. Due to which I have constant mucus buildup and congestion. I want to know if it could be treated I am a potential singer however this problem is blocking my way. Thanks in advance.

MS - ENT,MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Kolkata
Dust allergy is partly genetic and partly environmental. Thus it never goes away. With better, less dusty environment  the extent if the problem gets reduced. Medicines help to downregulate the immune response of your body to these environmental allergens. Long term lifestyle  changes with gradually tapering medication  helps to tackle chronic sinus problems.  Start taking Steam inhalation twice a day. *For chronic allergic rhinosinusitis you will need to take a long term course of antibiotics  together  with Nasal sprays. *You will need to avoid dusty environment  and dust mites, animal dander etc. Regular cleaning of AC air filters. Wearing mask while driving 2 wheelers/working in dusty  areas Medical  management  is done for 3 months and then patients  condition is reviewed.  Intermittent treatment is not beneficial  in the long run. Around 30 %of people with allergic rhinitis  will develop Asthma if not treated. But majority of patients with asthma are allergic to dust. Active treatment  of nasal allergy reduces Asthma attacks and medicine requirements. This improve  quality of life.

Hi I am having Hepatitis-B, Please let me know can Hepatitis-B can be cured, and can I get married, and if I have sex with my wife, will she be infected, If so, how can it be avoided. Please let me know about this I am very much worried about this. What is the caused for this infection.

MBBS
General Physician, Cuttack
1. There is no treatment that eradicates hepatitis b infection completely. 2. However treatment is available to arrest the liver damage and subsequent development of cirrhosis of liver/carcinoma of liver 3. In most of the cases the hepatitis b virus automatically gets cleared from the blood within 6 months. If the virus persists after 6 months it is known as chronic hepatitis b 4.30-90% of patient suffering from chronic hepatitis b subsequently develop cirrhosis of liver/carcinoma of liver if not treated 5. You have to regularly do the blood test to monitor hbsag, hbeag hbv dna, real time pcr for viral load (rapid diagnostic test), liver function test for sgot/sgpt 6. Criteria for starting anti viral drugs- patient should be observed for 6 monthsif sgot (alt/sgpt (ast) level is more than two times the normal value), hbeag is positive, hbvdna is more than 20, 000/ml, and liver biopsy showing necro inflammatory changes, he may require treatment with anti viral drugs. 7. Consult hepatologist/gastro enterologist for further advice 8. Take precaution like use of condom while having sex, don't donate blood, inform medical/dental personnel about your infection, prior to any invasive procedure 9. Ensure that your wife is vaccinated against hepatitis b.
