Hi lybrate-user, one of the side effects of donepezil is hyponatremia, reduced pulse rate, urinary retention. There are other medications with less of these side effects.

I am 82m and has been suffering from senile dementia and insomnia. I was given (donepezil 5 mg + memantine 5 mg) for dementia. After taking the medicine last one month my serum sodium level fell below 125 meq/l. To control hyponatremia, doctor prescribed me to take tolvaptan 15 mg along with 05 g salt capsule daily with a water restriction of max 1200 ml per day. Even after 30 days of taking the above medicine, my serum sodium level is still 133 meq/l which is below the normal ref value 138 - 148. Should I continue tolvaptan 15 mg + 5 g salt cap + water restriction for more days or increase the dose of tolvaptan to 30 mg? Earlier also I had to stop donepezil due to induced hyponatremia. Please advice if I need to stop dementia medicines completely or not.

Yes, both meds help. Resperidone has sedative effect but he should get over it after few days. Please note if he not on medications then his symptoms will make him difficult to concentrate on studies.

My child is suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder. Age 18 years joined veterinary college this year. He is in a habit of over thinking and fear psychosis. Like if some friends say something as laughs by going some distance away he thinks ki woh mere upper lagh kiye hair and when he doesn't tell us these things in evening in evening repeatedly he never gets relief. And also repeats certain things at home. I consulted a doctor he advised
fluvoxin cr 100 and risdone mt 1 tab once daily. Is these tablets ok or affect his studies or brain pl advice.

Hi, withdrawals symptoms depends on duration and dose. If you want to stop you could try reducing the dose and stop after 2 wks.

I am taking libotryp ds for anxiety, sleep disorder, morning vomiting, tension headache, irritable bowel syndrome diarrhea for more than 3 months.
My gastroenterologist told me to stop this medicine after 1 month. Is there withdrawal symptoms if I stop this medicine suddenly.
I asked this question ti my gastroenterologist and told me not to worry.
Any suggestions/advise are welcome.
