Dr. I am suffering with varicose veins in my left leg below the knee and cannot do standing for more than one hour. I am Associate Professor in Chemistry and my teaching is being effected as it is becoming tough for me to deliver continuously by standing for 45 minutes. I had already gone through sclerotherapy but the problem has multiplied after that. Pl do suggest something more remedial.

Homeopath, Delhi
U can try wearing compression stocking mid thigh level to help you relieve pain. Also take some break after every 10-15 mins from standing and raise your legs while sitting on a chair. Elevate your legs by 15-20 degrees at night while you sleep. You can also do hard massage of your legs from ankle to knee. Stretching your calf muscle will also help relieve the pain. Sit on the floor or a bed with legs straight and pull your toes backwards. Hold the position for 5-10 sec and repeat for 10 times. Do this twice a day.

My daughter is suffering from cough and cold since 7-8 days. She coughing after sometimes but troubles seems to me when she is in cough, it is long like a assault man. If I am regularly serving her leaves of tulsi with honey. Am I right or wrong? or what is doctors solution? 2. She is very igoist. She also behaved mady type. What is solvation?

AUTLS, CCEDM, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Faridabad
There are several things you can do to prevent a cold—they are all easy and inexpensive and worth the effort. Wash your hands often-with soap and warm water. The germs stick to the soap and get washed down the drain. Always wash your hands after coughing or sneezing into your hands, blowing your nose, after touching someone who is sick, or when using public restrooms or telephones. Cover Your Mouth and Nose When You Sneeze or Cough- Clean your hands every time you cough or sneeze. Avoid Touching Your Eyes, Nose, or Mouth-Germs are often spread when a person touches a contaminated surface and then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth. Stay Home When You’re Sick-Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, don’t smoke, manage stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food so you can fend off viruses. Take healthy balanced diet...like boiled eggs.daily in breakfast .. Avoid people who have a cold or cold symptoms. Routinely clean and disinfect common areas of your home. Treatment:There is a gradual 1-3 day onset of symptoms. It often starts out as a sore throat, then a fever and coughing. As the cold progresses, the nasal mucus may thicken which is the last stage before the cold dries up. A cold usually lasts for a week or two. But, taking good care of yourself at home can relieve symptoms and help prevent complications if you are otherwise healthy. Unless you develop complications, you shouldn’t need medical treatment. Complications include bacterial infections of the ears, throat, sinuses or lungs which must be treated with antibiotics. In general you should: • get plenty of rest so your body can use its energy to fight the cold • staying at home will keep you from spreading germs • drink plenty of liquids like herbal tea or hot broth/vegetable/tomato soups. Avoid foods or drinks with caffeine which can keep you from getting enough sleep Runny Nose and Sneezing- if you have post nasal drip, gargle to keep from getting a sore throat. Drink extra fluids. (avoid sugary and high calorie drinks) Use saline nasal sprays or nasal irrigation • Tablet Nasorest-P once/twice daily may reduce the amount of mucous. • Humidify the rooms you are in most or your whole house if possible. • Do steam inhalation once or twice daily Cough-Coughing is how your body gets rid of debris and mucus from the airways during a viral infection. Unless your cough is severe or is keeping you from resting at night, it is better not to treat it. A severe cough can be treated with a cough syp, but don’t try to completely stop the cough. There are two types of coughs. Productive and non-productive or dry cough. Non-productive, dry cough. A dry, hacking cough may develop near the end of a cold. Dry coughs that follow viral colds are often worse at night and can last up to several weeks. Take syrup Alex-D for a dry cough. Cough drops can sooth an irritated throat, but most don’t affect the cough. Productive cough. A productive cough is one that brings up mucus from the back of the throat or the lungs. Productive coughs should not be suppressed to the point they no longer bring up mucus. Use syrup Alex. Drink lots of water if you have a productive cough. Head and Body Aches- Take tablet dolo-650 mg for fever once or twice daily

Folic Acid & Health

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Folic acid (vitamin B9) is a water–soluble B vitamin.
It is lost in traditional Indian cooking.
Folic acid is essential for DNA repair, cell division and normal cellular growth.
Profound deficiency of folic acid during pregnancy is associated with neural tube defects, such as spina bifida in neonates.
Deficiency in adults has been associated with megaloblastic anemia and peripheral neuropathy.
In both men and women, low serum folate levels can increase homocysteine levels, which are correlated with elevated cardiovascular risk.
Low folic acid levels during pregnancy in women with epilepsy have been associated with fetal malformation, and older enzyme–inducing anti-epileptic drugs are known to reduce serum folate levels.
The risk of having a pregnancy complicated by a major congenital malformation (e.g., neural tube defect) is doubled in epileptic women taking anti epileptic drugs compared with those women with a history of epilepsy not taking these agents.
Risk is tripled with anti–epileptic drugs polypharmacy, especially when valproic acid is included.
Consensus statements recommend 0.4–0.8 mg of folic acid per day in all women planning a pregnancy. Ideally, this should be started at least 1 month prior to pregnancy if possible.
The guidelines recommend higher daily folic acid doses (4 mg/day) in women with a history of neural tube defects.
In addition, enzyme–inducing anticonvulsants, such as phenytoin, carbamazepine, primidone and phenobarbital, are known to decrease folate levels, and valproic acid may interfere with folate metabolism.
Other AEDs, such as oxcarbazepine, lamotrigine and zonisamide, do not appear to alter folate levels.
Because many pregnancies are unplanned, it is recommended that folic acid supplementation be given routinely to all women of childbearing potential at 0.4 mg/day.

M 19 years old and during having sex after oral sex only my dick ejaculates first tym please help me so that it could last longer. Is it bad or say is it premature ejaculation. Plzzz help asap.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Thanks for your query. Based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have problem of premature ejaculation. The white sticky discharge you get even with slight excitement is nothing but a secretion of periurethral glands located in urethra. This is normal secretion of these glands which help in free passage of thick semen through urethra during ejaculation. This is excessive in your case. It will settle down itself once you get used to normal sexual life. As regards premature ejaculation this is due to anxiety. Please consult qualified urologist/sexologist for advice regarding treatment.

Homeopathic Ways To Treat Piles!!

BHMS, MD - Alternate Medicine

Homeopathic Ways To Treat Piles!!

Piles or Haemorrhoids is a disease of the anal canal. The veins in this region get affected. They swell as blood stagnates inside them. This causes discomfort while passing stool. The most obvious symptoms of piles are bleeding and pain at the time of excretion or passing of the stool. For most of the patients with piles, sitting or standing becomes a tedious task.

What causes piles?

The primary reason behind the occurrence of piles is a patient’s sedentary lifestyle. Most of it also depends on upon his or her diet intake. Many of us consume a lot of carbohydrates, fats and proteins in our regular meals. But, we forget or are simply reluctant to take up physical exercises. This, in turn, leads to increase in body weight and hampers the activity of our digestive system. As a result, patients develop diseases like piles.

Diet plays a vital role in preventing piles. If we don’t add an adequate amount of fibre or roughage to our diet, there is a potential threat of developing piles. Fibres help with the convenient evacuation of the stool. In fact, fibres form the bulk of the stool. Besides, insufficient intake of water may also cause this disease.

Natural ways to tackle piles

Piles can be managed or tackled by bringing in some changes in our lifestyle. Some of the ways of managing piles have been listed below:

1. Add more roughage and fruits to your diet
2. Exercise regularly
3. Avoid laxatives
4. Sit in a tub of hot water to get relief from the pain
5. Drink plenty of water

Homeopathic treatment for piles

When it comes to the treatment of piles, Homeopathy is quite safe and an effective method to get rid of the problem by its holistic approach along with diet & lifestyle modifications which are a very important part of the treatment of piles. It doesn’t include any painful surgery for removal of piles. Moreover, homoeopathy is budget-friendly.

Things to remember:

Do not medicate by yourself as it has its own side effects also so it is best to consult a homeopathic practitioner for the perfect treatment.

Supportive treatment is very important in scabies. Dip all clothes in hot water for 20 minutes and wash later. Treatment of all family members with permethrin cream is required at the same time. The method of application of permethrin cream is to be noted. Permethrin cream should be applied to whole body from neck to toe at night only once a week for 2 to 3 weeks.

MBBS, DNB, pg certificate in diabetes management
General Physician, Kolkata
Hi lybrate-user first periodic headaches like cluster headaches and chronic daily headaches are little different. You can make a headache diary and note down the timing, location one/both side possible triggering factors, any aura, intolerance to light/sounds etc, convulsions abnormal sensations, vomiting sensations, nose block, eye pain, watering from eye etc. Coffee is good for migrainous headaches. You can take pain killers with antacids for short duration. Rest of the long term treatment depends on type of headache.
