Here is home remedy for brighter teeth--- mix several teaspoons of baking soda with enough fresh lemon juice (or water) to make a paste. Wipe your teeth and any extra saliva off of them with a paper towel. Put a good amount of paste onto your toothbrush and apply. Leave the paste on for 1 minute, then rinse, so as to avoid the acid effecting enamel. If you are using just water you can leave it on for up to 3 minutes. For faster result you can go for teeth bleaching from dentist. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- bad breath can be reduced or prevented if you: - practice good oral hygiene. - brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to remove food debris and plaque. - don't forget to brush the tongue, too. - replace your toothbrush every 2 to 3 months or after an illness. - use floss or an interdental cleaner to remove food particles and plaque between teeth once a day. - see your dentist regularly -- at least twice a year. He or she will conduct an oral exam and professional teeth cleaning and will be able to detect and treat periodontal disease, dry mouth, or other problems that may be the cause of bad mouth odor. - drink lots of water. This will keep your mouth moist. - chewing gum (preferably sugarless) stimulates the production of saliva, which helps wash away food particles and bacteria.

I want to know that after rootcanal my teeth were broken & filling come out. Can i refill it again?

BDS, MDS Prosthodontics
Dentist, Mumbai
It depends on degree of tooth breakage and from which level it has broken. Many times a post and core (pin in root canal) can restore the tooth followed by a cap on the tooth.

I use to have blood in my gums. I changed my toothpastes. Is there any medicine to get rid of it?

I use to have blood in my gums. I changed my toothpastes. Is there any medicine to get rid of it?
For bleeding gums 1st thing you need is dental scaling after which you need to use a gum astringent for 2 weeks, still the problem exists than you need a curettage. This will relief your problem. Change of toothpaste will not do anything. You need to clear the debris causing bacteria in mouth, if you ignore you will face periodontal problem.

I am having difficulties swallowing food and water. And the end of my mouth is hurting badly. Please help

BDS, Non-Resident J.R. in Dept. of Orthodontics, Certified oral implantologist, Advanced Aesthetics, Digital Smile Designer

You might be haiving third molar erupting in your mouth called as pericoronitis. The difficulty in swallowing and drinking can be because of this. Symptoms of pericoronitis can include: pain infection swelling in the gum tissue (caused by an accumulation of fluid) a" bad taste" in the mouth (caused by pus leaking from the gums) swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck difficulty opening the mouth if the pericoronitis is limited to the tooth (for example, if the pain and swelling has not spread), treat it by rinsing your mouth with warm salt water. You should also make sure that the gum flap has no food trapped under it. If your tooth, jaw, and cheek are swollen and painful, see your dentist right away. He or she can treat the infection with antibiotics (usually penicillin, unless you are allergic). You can also take pain relievers such as aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen. The dentist may also prescribe a pain medication. If the pain and inflammation are severe, or if the pericoronitis recurs, it may be necessary to have oral surgery to remove the gum flap or wisdom tooth. Your dentist can make the appropriate referral to the oral and maxillofacial surgeon. A low-level laser can be used to reduce pain and inflammation associated with pericoronitis.

I have an abscessed tooth that has gotten infected. When I woke up 3 days ago I found I could barely swallow accompanied by a new level of pain so I went to the ER and got antibiotics. At the moment the swelling hasn't subsided and I have a strange red blotch starting on my swollen jaw & moving down neck and slowly down my chest. The pain is at times nauseating and my head and neck hurt. How concerned should I be and what course of action should I take? Thanks.

This is age change but it occurs fast when you do not maintain oral hygiene properly. Treatment of the gaps depend upon the size, location. Sometimes it can not be filled. To prevent further damage you have to be punctual about hygiene and follow-up visits to dentist.
