If you have diabetes, then you need to be careful with certain foods such as following: 1) fruits like mangoes, banana, chikoo, litchi and grapes 2) vegetables like patoato, sweetpatato, arbi etc 3) cereals like corns, suji and rice and 4) nuts like dates, raisins food items you should avoid includes sugar, jaggery, honey and maida or white flour. Include more vegetables and fibre in your diet and have protein based snacks like roasted chana or sprouts or egg whites. Methidana pani also heps in lowering blood sugars, so try drinking it early morning.

In order to stay protected from the ill-effects of air pollution and keep your kids and family safe, these are the foods you should include in your diet:

  • Have ginger juice along with a spoon of honey thrice a day if you are suffering from breathing issues, cough, cold or infections. It will soothe the irritation and make you feel better.
  • Jaggery and honey is an immunity strengthening combination, it will protect you from air pollution as well as other ailments.
  • Have crushed black pepper along with honey, this will help in clearing the cough accumulated in your chest. It also cleanses you.
  • Basil and cinnamon tea is found to be very effective in combating cough, cold and other infections
  • Garlic is another amazing antibiotic-rich ingredient which improves immunity and also fights cough. Crush garlic pods, fry them with butter till cooked properly and have it. Don't consume water for half an hour after eating it and get rid of cough.
  • Raise your vitamin c intake by consuming loads of berries such as gooseberries, oranges, lemons, lime, guava, etc. Vitamin c is a water soluble antioxidant which helps in boosting our immunity.

Your fantasies might have taken a backseat for the time being or might have remained silenced for more than a while. The other processes of your usual life go on perfectly except for a few changes that you either consider as minute or you attribute them to any cause other than lowered libido (interest in sex). 

Loss of libido can create hurdles in a man as well as a woman's life and thus should be corrected at the earliest possible. Even if you don't care much about an impaired sex life, libido loss can affect your overall health that can prove to be harmful in the long run.

Some may say that it’s all in the mind. Yes, but to a certain extent only.  Considering the following causes, you would agree that it is not always in the mind that one loses interest in sex.

The common causes of decreased libido can be listed as below:

  1. While in males, testosterone levels may sharply drop due to aging, in females the estrogen levels may drop after surgeries pertaining to the vaginal tract, after menopause or after childbirth and subsequent breast- feeding.

  2. Exhaustion from prolonged office work or extensive travelling.

  3. An instance of sexual abuse in the past can result in lowered libido.

  4. A lousy lifestyle where you either smoke or drink regularly can prevent you from experiencing sexual desires.

  5. Irregular sleep patterns can be a contributing factor as well.

  6. Illnesses like cancer, diabetes and neurological disorders can hamper your sex drive.

Ways to deal with your libido loss:

  1. Make significant efforts to change your lifestyle. If you have an erratic lifestyle, sexual dysfunction is almost inevitable. You need to follow a routine to prohibit your libido from deterioration.

  2. Meditate and/or workout daily.  Indulge in brisk walk, jogging, yoga, light exercises, swimming, play games like, badminton, table tennis, squash, etc.  Over a period of time, it can restore your interest in sexual activities.

  3. Try and reduce the stress level from your life.  Spend quality time together and with family. Take time out for a movie, an event, a long drive, or a vacation.  Share your day’s activities with each other.

  4. Eat lots of vegetables and fruits. Cut down on drinking and smoking and gradually give them up completely.

  5. Take at least 8 hours of sleep so as to wake up latest by 6:00 in the morning. 

  6. A counseling by a good sexologist can help to a great extent in overcoming this problem. A major part of my treatment for libido loss consists of Counselling. Many of my patients are now happy to revive their sexual life through my treatment. One can consult me in private if they want to say goodbye to Loss of Libido.

However, one must beware of the Quacks claiming to help you get back your “Mardana Taqat and Josh”. Always seek help from a qualified Doctor / sexologist / sexual counselor with a good track record.

Hye. Thank you for your query. You are underweight by 6 to 7 kgs for your height. Firstly understand that weight gain is very dependent on genetics and metabolism along with your daily diet and exercise routine. It is important to know that just eating just two heavy meals a day will not help. Weight gain is all about taking more calories than you burn. Eating the right foods at the right time is very important. There is no one food that helps weight gain. Eat meals at frequent intervals. You need to eat at least 6 main and mid meals a day. Eat a mid meal between each main meal. Avoid junk foods. Include dairy, eggs, nuts, fruits, dry fruits, starchy vegetables, rice, bread, whole grain cereals, smoothies, masala milk, ghee, cream in your meals. Just eating sugary, sweet foods is not good. Try to have healthy deserts like kheer, chikki or lassi. Avoid alcohol and smoking. Exercise at least thrice a week. It helps development of muscle mass and improves appetite.  Even if you were to take just medicines or supplements they will not work in isolation. You need to have a calorie and nutrient dense meal and good exercise routine, it's crucial.

Hello lybrate-user, please try to reduce your mother's weight. Knee joint is a weight bearing joint, so more weight cause more strain over it. As your mother is of 60 yrs, degenerative changes might have set in. Please try to take calcium supplement and if swelling is there, it should come down first. If no swelling and pain is tolerable try doing knee exercise. And drink lot of water.

Hi. Let me tell you about hairfall. In layman's language, hairfall can be divided into 2 types - temporary hairfall and permanent (which is called as 'Hairloss' rather). In temporary hairfall, hair grows back again from the same hair root, but in case of permanent hairloss, may be because of formation of DHT (Di- Hydro -Testosterone) around hair root it gets choked up, subsequently affects the blood supply to the hair and thus hair root is lost forever. (There are different pattern and types of hairloss, because of different reasons like Alopecia Areata, Telogen Effluvium, Scarring Alopecia, Traction Alopecia, etc.) Causes of hairloss: Many factors are responsible formation of this DHT or male/ female pattern baldness - hereditary, post-illness/ ailment, post-delivery, post- chemotherapy, nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalance, insufficient sleep, sudden loss of weight, stress/ tensions/ excessive anger, use of bore water, any other underlying diseases, etc. Need to rule out any causative factor or underlying medical condition. Management: Take diet rich in protein like non-veg., eggs, pulses, legumes, sprouts, nuts (sp. walnut and almonds), iron-rich food like green vegetables, also take flaxseeds, green tea, soyabean, fruits, salads, etc. Take proper 6-9hrs of sound sleep. Give up the habit of smoking and excessive alcohol intake. Avoid junk food and any kind of beverages (tea, coffee, aerated drinks, cold drinks, etc.) Avoid canned/ tinned food or food that contains preservatives (eat fresh ones). Avoid use of hard water to wash the head rather use boiled water for head wash. Avoid use of harsh hair colour, hair treatment like rebonding, straightening, perming, etc. Avoid vigorous exercises or any supplements provided by the gym! Use Rose wood/ any wooden hair comb to brush your hair. Regular exercising is also one of the important point, but should be done under some good, qualified yoga teacher or instructor for proper guidance; it also releases the stress/ tension in the mind and the body and keeps you FIT and YOUNG!! Medication: Take homoeopathic Rx - Schwabe's Wiesbaden 200 & Alfalfa Tonic twice a day for 1 month and revert. Also, use Schwabe's Arnica shampoo and Hair Growth oil regularly as per the condition of your scalp (minimum 3 times a week). After shampooing, use Bakson's Arnica Hair conditioner as well after every head wash. Apart from this, take Follihair tablets (multivitamin) - 1 tab. daily once for 1 month. (N.B.: With the help of homoeopathic medicines, we can only prevent further progress of the hairloss, means it will get arrests in the present condition in case of progressive baldness. But, in case there are areas of baldness which has gone smooth and shiny, you will have to choose an option of Hair Transplant along with theses medications!). Investigations advised: Get your blood tested for (empty stomach) - CBC, S. Iron, S. Folic acid, S. Ferritin, S. Calcium, S. Vitamin D3, S. Vitamin B12. If there is any family history of Thyroid dysfunction, get Thyroid function test done as well.

I have diagnosed with pcos since 1 year. I did not consulted any doctor yet. My sister had similar prob previously and she advised me to take the same medicine what she is taking. (Crominac). Since i'm trying to conceive I did not take anything. But now wish to take medicines to get pregnancy. What shall I take for it? Is clomifene citrate is good for me?

You do not need the same treatment like your sister even though you have PCOD provided you do following life style modifications you can conceive normally. If you have PCOD then following guidelin. Get USG done for diagnosis You need Life style modification for PCOD for whole life, You should do physical activities like brisk walking or cycling or any activities which leads to perspiration daily for one hour. Start doing for 5 minutes in first week, 10 minutes in 2nd week, 15 minutes in 3rd week……….within 2-3 months you will reach to your target of doing exercises for one hour/day. You have to control taking high carbohydrate and lipid diet daily. E.g. If you want to take one SAMOSA or One Gulabjambu or one pizza or ice cream, you have to do extra workout for 30-60 minutes over above the daily one hour of daily exercises then only you can eat extra calories food otherwise not. So controlling calories intake and daily burning calories regularly wil help to loos one kg/month- slow and steady control over long period. With PCOD if your BMI remain between 20 to 25 everything will be fine otherwise you will develop Gestational diabetes duri.
