I am 24 years old. I have hole in my eardrum in left ear from last 4 years. Due to this I have hearing problem. What should I do?

BHMS

A ruptured, or perforated, eardrum prevents the proper transmission of sound waves to the middle ear and leaves the middle ear vulnerable to infectious agents, water and other foreign substances. Visit to eat specialist and follow adviced instructions.

Swimmer's Ear - Symptoms That You Might Be Suffering from it

Swimmer's Ear - Symptoms That You Might Be Suffering from it

Swimmer’s ear is a condition, which is characterized by an infection in the outer ear. This infection usually stems from the water that remains in the ear after swimming, forming a moist environment that allows bacteria to grow and procreate. This condition can also develop if you happen to insert your finger or other foreign objects into the ears.

Symptoms

The symptoms of this disorder are usually mild in the beginning, but may worsen if left untreated. In its germinating stage, this condition exhibits symptoms such as itching in the ears and a watery discharge. If the disorder has progressed to an advanced stage, then the symptoms become slightly different. An intense pain on the particular side of the face, swelling in the ear and blockage of the ear canal are some of the common symptoms. In extreme cases, swelling of the lymph nodes and moderate to high fever can be indicative of this condition.

Causes

The causes of swimmer’s ear are bacteria that are found in soil and water. Your ears have a natural defense system against infections; glands in the ear secrete an acidic substance called ‘cerumen’ that kills the bacteria. The ear canal has a downward slope from the middle ear to the outer ear, thus allowing the water to drain out. Swimmer’s ear occurs when these defenses fail to work. This happens when there is excessive moisture in the ear canal, creating an environment for the bacteria to grow. In addition, certain factors such as swimming in dirty water, a narrow ear canal and excessive cleaning of the ear canal can lead to this condition.

Treatment

The aim of the treatment is to prevent the infection from progressing and allow the ear to heal. The first step is to clean the ear canal so that the eardrops can reach the affected area. Once the ear is cleaned, eardrops are administered to get rid of the bacteria. The various medications that are used in the treatment of swimmer’s ear are:

1. Antibiotics: They are used to combat the bacteria that cause the infection.

2. Acidic solutions: It is used to restore the normal environment in the ear.

3. Steroids: These help in reducing the inflammation.

You may also be prescribed pain medications to treat the pain resulting from this condition. Try to avoid swimming till the condition heals completely. Make sure you aren’t inserting any foreign object in the ears as that may aggravate the situation further. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ent-specialist.

Apple cider vinegar also helped. Can you help me with controlling the symptoms? Is surgery the only option? I am not so much willing to get deaf! Thanks in advance.

It is mostly Meniere's disease. If you r getting tinnitus and virtigo episodically lasting for. 2 days. First get the investigations done. 1.PTA 2.Impedance 3. Special tests Then get yourself checked by ENT specialist. The disease can be controlled very well with intermittent medications. So do not worry. Get tested by specialist.

I have been to a water park (Aqua magical) and there due to feirce rides a bit of water got in through my nose into my body, I now have shallow breathing (I. E I can't breathe deep) and I feel a bit uneasy Should I be concerned please help ASAP.

PGDCC, MD(Chest), PG Dip.Clin.Cardiology
Pulmonologist, Ghaziabad
In this way water can enter your sinuses and a little bit in lungs but it is not of great concern, as mostly it all resolves by itself in 2-3 days. If you continue to have problems then you need treatment for infection or allergic inflammation.

I have allergy to dust and they are very painful and to sometimes suffering from fever and they have rear condition to I am go to hospital and my nose under bleeding and nose bones crack.

BHMS
Homeopath,
Dear lybrate user, dust allergy occurs due to the production of histamine in blood. This production of histamine is provoked by the entry of certain foreign substance in our respiratory system through the air we inhale. However if you are suffering from dust allergy from a considerable prolonged time then you should take the following medications:- 1) 5 drops of homoeopathic pyrogen 1000, thrice daily in empty stomach. 2) 30 drops of homoeopathic mother tincture cassia soph q, thrice daily, after meals, in a glass of water.

I have problem in my nose. It is often dry but just one part (right) is showing issues. It bleeds sometimes and I have difficulty in breathing from right part. My nose was very weak from the childhood. My nose used to bleed even after a gentle punch on it. I hope this aint so serious. Looking forward for your reply. Thankyou.

MBBS, MS - ENT
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Ahmedabad
This is mostly due to drying and subsequent cleaning inside the nose which is very delicate and so traumatized easily and bleeds easily. So stop cleaning inside, apply moisturizer without fragrance but it is always best to see an ent surgeon and get your self checked.

MS - ENT
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Imphal
Most of the time acid reflux disease causes foreign body sensation in throat but of course it can cause severe pain in throat and heart burn too. There may be some sort of throat infection too. I will advice you to have some medication to control acidity and also to take some medicated gurgles. Hope that helps.

My son is suffering from Tonsillitis, all the tests have gone through and doctor suggested to go for a surgery to remove those, is there any other source in Ayurveda/Homeopathy without having a surgery to reduce Tonsils. Please suggest, Thanks.

MBBS, Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO), DNB (ENT)
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Bangalore
If your son is suffering from throat pain every 2 months or 5 to 6 times in a years it is better to get operated. I haven't seen patients getting relief by alternative medicine Ample of research has been done regarding tonsillitis and tosillectomy. Patients improves very well after surgery. They will have very good mental and physical growth Don't worry about General aneshesia and surgery risk. Complications are extremely rare. Its a day care surgery. Kid will go home in evening.
