All About Prostate Cancer

Prostate Cancer is a form of cancer that affects men. The prostate is basically a small gland that sits in the male pelvic cavity and is responsible for producing seminal fluid or semen, from its position under the bladder, surrounding the urethra. The testosterone hormone controls this gland.

Prostate cancer refers to the growth of a malignant mass of cells which can also be called a tumour. More about this cancer:

  • Risk Factors: The various risk factors involved in this kind of cancer are many. Advanced age, a family history of the same disease, obesity as well as genetic changes can lead to the development of this kind of tumour.
  • Types: There are basically two types of prostate cancer, including fast growing or aggressive, and slow growing or non-aggressive. Yet, it is also important to remember that not every abnormal growth in this gland can be termed as a tumour, or is a sign of prostate cancer. A malignant growth signifies prostate cancer. This tumour can grow at a fast pace for aggressive prostate cancer, while it can grow and spread slowly for the non-aggressive type.
  • Symptoms: It is possible to not have any kind of obvious symptoms when suffering from this kind of cancer. The symptoms usually begin to show up when the cancer has reached a more advanced stage. These include urinary problems, most significantly. The patient may go through pain and difficulty when it comes to urinating. This pain may also occur during ejaculation. The patient may also find blood discharge in the semen upon ejaculation and suffer from sexual dysfunction as well. Pain in the chest, pelvic area and back are also common symptoms of prostate cancer, which may gradually turn into numbness in the said areas as well.
  • Diagnosis: The diagnosis of the issue will be done by a specialist from the urology department. After a physical examination where a diagnosis of the symptoms and other check ups will happen, the doctor may conduct lab tests to check the blood, urine and other samples. Further, imaging tests like MRI and CT scans will also be conducted. A digital rectal exam and prostate biopsy will also help in effective diagnosis.
  • Treatment: The treatment of this kind of cancer usually depends on the severity of the symptoms and the spread of the tumour. Besides active observation, the doctor may also recommend radiation, chemotherapy and surgery based on the age and health condition of the patient. If you happen to find even subtle symptoms which could point towards this disease, do not hesitate to get in touch with the doctor.

Why does my liver malfunction? And why my metabolism is imbalance, I'm not gaining weight, why?

Why does my liver malfunction? And why my metabolism is imbalance, I'm not gaining weight, why?
Abnormal Metabolism of Fats Abnormalities in the level of fats in the blood stream. For example; elevated LDL cholesterol and reduced HDL cholesterol and elevated triglycerides. Arteries blocked with fat, leading to high blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes. Build up of fat in other body organs (fatty degeneration of organs). Lumps of fat in the skin (lipomas and other fatty tumors). Excessive weight gain, which may lead to obesity. Inability to lose weight even while dieting. Sluggish metabolism. Protuberant abdomen (pot belly). Cellulite. Fatty liver. Roll of fat around the upper abdomen – (liver roll). Digestive Problems Indigestion. Reflux. Haemorrhoids. Gallstones and gallbladder disease. Intolerance to fatty foods. Intolerance to alcohol. Nausea and vomiting attacks. Abdominal bloating. Constipation. Irritable bowel syndrome. Pain over the liver – (upper right corner of abdomen & lower right rib cage). Blood Sugar Problems Craving for sugar. Hypoglycaemia and unstable blood sugar levels. Mature onset diabetes (Type 2) is common in those with a fatty liver. Nervous System Depression. Mood changes such as anger and irritability. Metaphysically the liver is known as the “seat of anger”. Poor concentration and “foggy brain”. Overheating of the body, especially the face and torso. Recurrent headaches (including migraine) associated with nausea. Immune Dysfunction Allergies – sinusitis, hay fever, asthma, dermatitis, hives, etc. Multiple food and chemical sensitivities. Skin rashes and inflammations. Increased risk of autoimmune diseases. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Fibromyalgia. Increase in recurrent viral, bacterial and parasitic infections. External Signs Coated tongue. Bad breath. Skin rashes. Itchy skin (pruritus). Excessive sweating. Offensive body odour. Dark circles under the eyes. Yellow discoloration of the eyes. Red, swollen, itchy eyes (allergic eyes). Acne rosacea – (red pimples around the nose, cheeks and chin). Brownish spots and blemishes on the skin (liver spots). Red palms and soles which may also be itchy and inflamed. Flushed facial appearance or excessive facial blood vessels (capillaries/ veins). Hormonal Imbalance Intolerance to hormone replacement therapy or the contraceptive pill (eg. Side effects) Menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes may be more severe. Premenstrual syndrome may be more severe. NOTE: All of the above symptoms are common manifestations of a dysfunctional liver. However, they can also be due to other causes, of a more sinister nature, so, in all cases of persistent symptoms it is vital to see your doctor.

Dear Lybrate User, It is not clear how you came out of severe depression. If you were under some medication, then it is possible that these medicines have affected your sexual desire and erection. Please talk to your Doctor (who prescribed these medicines to you) about it. Since you have taken it probably only for a year there might not be any permanent damage. I would suggest - please talk to a Counsellor. Only medicines may work temporarily, in case of depression. But if you seek counselling help, you will be treating the root cause of your depression. You need to have regular counselling sessions. The Counselling sessions will help you to modify your thoughts so that you are out of depression and will have more self confidence. Many of the sexual problems are because of emotional issues and not any physical defects. Your present sexual problems might get resolved when you start feeling happy and confident. Please talk to a Counsellor at the earliest. Take care.

I am 27 year old and now feeling very lazy because of masturbation. What should I do to avoid masturbation?

I am 27 year old and now feeling very lazy because of masturbation. What should I do to avoid masturbation?
Masturbation is not really bad; it is the addiction to it that is bad. Not even the number of years is a problem but the frequency and compulsiveness to do it is to be considered for its ill-effects. At your age you may feel it difficult and it can become addictive if you have alone time, if you obsess about it, and if you are not into relationships. The problem with addiction to this is that you may go on to prefer masturbation to heterosexual contact, even when you are married. That obviously would be an insult to your wife and will lead to a lot of conflict. Heterosexual contact is very wholesome and the physiology is made exactly for penile and vaginal contact. You will instead enjoy a poor replica of this and not know or care for the difference. The second thing that can happen with addiction is that it will become compulsive and will have no boundaries or limits, since it can be done all by yourself, whenever, wherever, and however too. The big problem a lot of children get into is the guilt around this. A useful way to discharge the energy is to get into contact games, or exercises, or even hobbies to channelize it. Also you should not spend too much time alone, and you need to keep your mind occupied with other interesting things and a lot of socializing. Even if you are not interested in marriage, for whatever reasons, it will help you to get into a friendship with a girl and enjoy the relationship where there will be a lot of excitement when you fall in love. Right now your hormones may be very active and your physiological apparatus is primed and ready for sexual stimulation. But because of your age and even otherwise it is important to develop good control and not feed into your impulses. Keeping yourself occupied and living a healthy social life are the keys to manage your sexual drives.

7 herbal home remedies for burn
7 herbal home remedies for burn

People do experience small burns at home, especially in the kitchen due to boiling water or oil. When such things do happen, quick usage of certain home remedies do help. Here are some of them:

1. Aloe vera:
It is great for healing and soothing burns. Directly apply aloe vera gel on the burn. Its soothing and rejuvenating properties will help cool the burned skin. Since the active ingredient (acemannen) breaks down quickly, fresh inner leaf fillets are much preferred. Fresh aloe vera quickly soothes painful burns and often heals even serious burns with little or no scarring.

2. Honey:
This is a common home remedy used for burns and covering the burns with honey has been shown to produce less scarring. Raw honey has wonderful antiseptic and healing properties.

3. Diluted vinegar:
A wonderful and widely available household first-aid item for healing and soothing burns is diluted vinegar. Cover the burn area with a cloth soaked in diluted vinegar. Refresh the vinegar compress as often as needed, especially if the pain becomes stronger again.

4. Diluted lavender oil:
This is also known to help reduce the pain. A combination of aloe vera gel, vitamin c, lavender oil and vitamin e can work as a good salve that can be applied through the day.

5. Banana peels:
Sometimes, placing a banana peel on the burned area of the skin till it becomes black has proved beneficial for burn injuries.

6. Yogurt:
This also makes a person feel better but you should wait for at least 30 minutes before you apply this.

7. Olive oil:
This too brings relief.
In case the burns are more severe, please do consult a doctor.

Seems some glands have inflammed due to infection. But you haven't reported any fever or secretion from nipples. It's better to get these clinically checked. Till then take kanchnar guggul, arogyavardhini vati both 2 bd with water. Also give little pure turmeric mixed water or milk once a day. Do for two weeks and report.

Ichthyosis vulgaris may also occur along with other skin disorders, such as atopic dermatitis (eczema) or keratosis pilaris. Atopic dermatitis, more commonly known as eczema, is known for causing extremely itchy skin rashes. The affected skin may also be thick and covered in scales Homoeopathic constitutional treatment will give you permanent cure, here no external applications are advised ,since no skin disease is from without, it always needs an internal medicinal treatment for cure. You can easily take an online consultation for further treatment guidance.

My m In-law have a v low level of hemoglobin. 6. She is a diabetic also. How to improve hemoglobin level?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Gurgaon
My m In-law have a v low level of hemoglobin. 6. She is a diabetic also. How to improve hemoglobin level?
Diet- 1. According to Ayurveda, the body comes down with anemia (low hemoglobin) when the Pitta is disturbed (combination of fire and water / related with digestion). The best way to cure pitta is to clear out the intestines. There are a few ways to do this: running down a glass of milk with water, boiling it and drinking it lukewarm before going to sleep or coconut juice on an empty stomach are very good. 2. Fresh juice of wheat grass twice daily is very beneficial. 3. Fresh carrot and red beetroot can be sliced and taken with lemon juice on it. 4. Take 100 ml of spinach juice for 4 weeks. 5. Just two grams daily of black seed could result in reduced fasting blood sugar levels, along with decreased insulin resistance, and increased beta-cell function in the pancreas. Do not's- Fried food and sour food like dry cottage cheese shouldn’t be consumed. Avoid tea and coffee. Tea and coffee shouldn’t be taken during meals and intake must be reduced as they decrease the absorption of iron. Note- Vitamin C increases the absorption of iron. So if you are taking any medicines for increasing hemoglobin take it with lemon water. Add lemon in spinach juice, spinach sabji, beetroot juice etc. Yoga- Sarvangasana, SuryaNamaskar, Anulom-Vilom.

I have pimples on my face I used many doctors and many creams but no change is seeing. What can I do.

BHMS
Homeopath,
I have pimples on my face I used many doctors and many creams but no change is seeing. What can I do.
Dear lybrate user, pimples/ acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory skin disease which develops due to blocking of the hair follicles in skin. These blockages occur due to 4 abnormal processes: 1) excess sebum production due to androgens 2) excessive deposition of the protein keratin leading to comedone formation 3) infection of propionibacterium acnes (p. Acnes) bacteria on the hair follicles 4) local release of pro-inflammatory chemicals in the skin. Neither can you stop the overproduction of androgen or keratin protein nor can you stop the release of pro-inflammatory chemicals because all these processes takes place internally in your skin. However you can stop the accumulation of p. Acnes bacteria on your skin by preventing your skin from getting oily. Always keep a handkerchief with you wherever you go outside. You should wipe off the slightest amount of sweat from your face as soon as you perspire on entering your room from outside wash your face with an oil-free, non-moisturizing face wash. Take a low carbohydrate diet. Do some exercise daily. Drink a lots of water to avoid constipation. Avoid pricking the pimples or popping the sebum as it may lead to black pigmentation & permanent scar formation. You can also take homoeopathic calcarea phos 200, 5 drops, thrice daily, in empty stomach also you can apply homoeopathic mother tincture berberis aquifoium q on the dark spots on your skin which are produced after the resolution of the pimples.
