I m suffering from tonsil, since last 3 days and it goes increases day by day. What should I do.

BHMS
Homeopath, Raebareli
The best and the most common home remedy for tonsillitis is to gargle with warm salt water. The warm water will have a soothing effect and the salt will help kill the virus or bacteria. Plus, salt helps reduce inflammation, giving you instant relief. Mix one teaspoon of table salt in a cup of warm water. Gargle with the solution. Do not swallow it. Spit the water out after gargling. Repeat this as often as possible for speedy recovery.

I have pupl polyp maybe. Is there any treatment for it? Can it be due to bacterial infection or hiv? I had oral sex 8 months ago. I got tested for stds and hiv regularly till 6 months. All came negative. Why do I have this then?

DORL, MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Faridabad
Polyp is basically the complicated form of sinusitis, has to be taken care of immediately, this has to be treated on the urgent basis otherwise you may need two stage surgery. Sinus is a normal roomy structure around nasal cavity its infection called sinusitis, if a person suffering from nasal obstruction along with sinusiits and mild to moderate nasal allergies it means most probably he is suffering from dns (deviated nasal septum. Nasal obstruction is because of the deviated portion of the nasal septum (this is the bony partition of the nose cavity. Allergies are because of the hampered muco-ciliary mechanism (normally mucus is produced in the nose to moisten our nose cavity, oral cavity, and help food bolus to move downward, this mucus is basically moves on the cilia of the nasal mucosa) this mechanism gets hampered and mucus start accumulating in the nose and sinus cavity which is why thick mucus comes from nose in patients of nose obstruction and person develops sinusitis. When a surgeon removes the nasal septum deviation has not been removed properly the symptoms persists, and patient thinks that the nose bone has again regrown. It is not because of regrowth but because of half surgery done or due to the non removal of the deviation (reason can be many) nowadays nasal septal deviation can be removed endoscopically.

I have a problem in the left side of my nose. It is always blocked with dirt. So much so that, I have heavy breathing mostly. It seems the gap between the bone and the skin is very less and with the dirt blocking it, I am having the problem. What could be the possible reasons for the same and the possible cure?

MS - ENT(Gold Medalist), MBBS

It can be due to dns deviated nasal septum blocking the passage of nose and causing problem. You can use nasivion nasal drops 2-2-2-2. Get an ent consultation done.

I am having sneezing problem during waking up and after taking bath. I sneezes for about 8 to 10 times. How to cure this?

MBBS, DGO (cal)
General Physician,
Possibly you have allergic rhinitis. Check with ent. If it is allergic rhinitis without any associated problem, may use (1) fluticasone nasal spray - 1 puff in each nostril twice daily for at least 3 months. Then you need to tail off. (2) cetirizine 10 mg - 1 tab daily at 8 pm or after coming back home in the evening for about 10 days then 5 mg daily for another 10 days then stop.

I'm suffering from regurgitation mostly in early morning time it really worse that I skip breakfast because of fullness in my throat.

MBBS, MS - ENT
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Ahmedabad
This is a lifestyle disease. You need to modify your eating habits. Avoid spicy fried sour junk food. Avoid large heavy meals. Instead take frequent small meals. Try to avoid food for 2-3 hours before going to bed. Regular light exercise also helps. If this is for long time take a gastroenterologist's opinion at least once.

Hi. I am experiencing pain when I swallow anything. Is this because of tonsils? Pain is near the adam's apple. However there is very little sign of cold. Is this possible if I drink a chilled soft drink? How to treat this?

MD, Fellowship in Intergrative Medicine, MBBS
Integrated Medicine Specialist, Kochi
Hello From the history provided you have provided you had Hodgkin which is a immune compromised condition which was treated with radiation. So please change your diet Stick to plant based diet mostly and use animal food in minimal amounts only making sure it is grass fed and preferably organic. Your weight is more. So do some exercise daily. Cut down sugar Cut down oil Do not eat any processed food. Stop soft drinks they are all high in sugar and sugar is a fuel for all cancers. Take clean water or make your own veggie juice. Do not buy fruit juice outside It is high in fructose which can cause fatty liver, metabolic syndrome and Diabetes. Do some gargle with warm water and salt do not use cool drinks. If you want specific dietary advice to reduce weight and be healthy and prevent recurrence of your lymphoma take a consult /

Its 1st week that during my bath water went inside my ear unlike other I am not so good at taking out those water drops and recently facing ear pain ear ringing and a constant blockage which while trying to unblock giving this excruciating pain need help any drops to use?

Diploma in Oto-Rhino-Laryngology (D.O.R.L), M.B.B.S
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Pune
Hi when water enters ear and your ear has wax in the canal then the wax swells up due to water which exerts pressure on the canal walls causing blockage and pain, there can be bacterial or fungal infection which can also cause pain. Dont try cleaning your ear with an ear bud, by doing this you will be pushing wax more towards the ear drum and also traumatising the canal wall skin. Its better to visit a doctor.

If there is a hole/perforation in ear drum and there is hearing loss on audiometry then one should go for surgery (myringoplasty). Get an audiometry test done and review with report.

I have anal and oral sex gay and I tested for Chlamydia in throat and urine both were negative should I have chlmdyia from anus if I have no throat infection.

MBBS, PG Diploma in HIV Medicine
General Physician,
Good day lybrate-user. Yes there is a chance of presence of infection even though the test are negative. Anal mucosa is thinner than vaginal mucosa and high chance of getting injured and disease transmission. Even though you have used condom there is always a good chance of transmission through Oral. Chlamydial infection can be multi systemic like Gastrointestinal tract, Genitourinary, lungs and at a times central nervous system too. So You need to watch out for all kind of symptoms and signs not just for Chlamydia but for other sexually transmitted diseases like HIV, Hepatitis B and Syphills etc. As there is Oral sex is also present. Consult a physician for complete information and prevention. Please contact if still further assistance.

Perforated ear. Had ear drum operation. But not successful. Hearing reduced to moderate. Now doctor says sinus is the reason for operation failure. Tired of operation and pain. One hospital says have sinus operation directly accompanied with ear on the same sitting. What should I do what r the success rate of these operation as hospital says ear drum operation never fails.

Please do not get them done in the same sitting. Get the sinus problem corrected first and once that improves get your ear operated.

I am suffering from throat cancer. What treatment can I take to ease my pain. I took some radiation and chemotherapy treatment.

Diploma in Radio Therapy, MBBS
Oncologist, Chennai
Dear lybrate-user, Kindly be more specific about the size, location and extent of cancer spread so that it will be possible to asses the stage of the disease process. And also give in detail about the RT and CT you had received. Cancer pain is definitely more debilitating and is difficult to keep in control. Over the counter pain killers can give temporary relief for certain period of time after which more potent analgesics at a shorter interval should be followed for pain palliation. You can consult me with all your previous medical reports so that I can help you better.
