Yes there could be a link between non-clearance of bowels and owing to gas fainting for a moment. You need to keep your bowels clear in order to rule out other cause of fainting.

I observed intermittent swelling on my left side throat. When I had a checkup, I was told that there is a problem with gland responsible for saliva secretion. It secretes saliva but couldn' t excrete it & hence its getting swollen whenever I taste something. Is this normal? what would be the cause & solution? I do not having smoking/drinking habits

MS - ENT(Gold Medalist), MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Delhi
This may be due to infection in the gland (sialadenitis) or due to stone formation (calculus) in the duct of gland that opens into mouth. Get an ultrasound done of this area and send the report. If there is stone it will require surgery. Avoid spicy food and keep good oral hygiene.

I am facing problem of snoring and it's very loud which create problems for my roommates so please suggest me some method to cure this problem.

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Udupi
Dear Lybrate User, *Sleeping on the side, by tucking a pillow into the back helps prevent snoring. *Stick a nasal adhesive strip across the soft part of the nose, just above nostrils prior to bed time. The plastic bands that are embedded in the adhesive pad, helps in tightening and lifting the sides of nose, while also maintaining airflow while sleeping. *Pour three to four drops of warm Brahmi ghee or plain ghee into each nostril in the morning and prior to bed time. *If overweight, try to lose weight through regular walks or any such exercise, which helps an obese person to breathe easily. Take care to go to bed at a scheduled time every day to get adequate sleep. *Snorers should strictly avoid use of sleeping pills, sedative antihistamines or alcohol. Smoking should be strictly avoided, as it irritates the nasal and throat lining.

That means you r having ear drum perforation and infection in middle ear. You will require surgery (myringo or tympanoplasty) but only when ear is dry after taking medications. Get a latest audiometry (hearing test) done and review with report.

Avoid decongestant nasal drops as they produce rebound congestion. You may use saline nasal drop or steroid nasal spray under medical supervision.

You should meet a nutritionist / dieticians immediately to have customised plan for diet & life style. You haven't mentioned your height. For what you are taking medication? As such you eat more fibre, sprouts, whole grains, 3-4 fruits, 6-7 veg including raw veg as salads, skim milk & curd etc and 1 hour exercise like gyming, brisk walking, sports, running, swimming, yoga, cycling, etc

Its been 2 weeks I had a septoplasty and turbinate reduction surgery. So one thing I noticed that doctor has not removed the bony spur on right due to which I had breathing problems. When I asked him he said he has changed the angle of spur and we cannot remove it. Is it so? And I am still facing breathing problems. How long it will take to recover completely? Shall I eat/drink cold stuff like cold-drink or ice cream?

MBBS, Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO)
ENT Specialist, Bangalore
lybrate-user, you will need to wait for 3 months before your nose could be reoperated. So, get a CT-PNS scan after 3 months and if the obstruction is radiologically confirmed, find another better ENT Surgeon to revise the surgery. REMEMBER- If you pay peanuts, you will only get monkeys!
