Hi , I appreciate you seeking help. Well, weight loss, weakness, anorexia, ascitis, edema etc all are seen in liver cancer. Your low appetite, and hence the associated weight loss, may be because of the side effect of present medication as well. You can check with your oncologist / physician on the same too. In general, however, I would advise that you try having multiple small meals than three larger ones. Should your health permit, you can also go for some gentle yet safe exercises (like walking) which is likely to help too. Try have healthy and balanced meals that suit your taste, and also have it in a relaxed environment. You may listen to music or watch your favorite TV program while taking your food. You can connect with me with all relevant diagostics & treatment history to help you out specifically with safe natural medications that can ameliorate your present heath concerns. Hope this helps. Do take care, and all the very best. Sincerely,

Hi my mother is having breast cancer above stage-2 and her age is 37. She already had taken the surgery now she is taking chemotherapy is she need radiotherapy. What are the precautions to take for the chemotherapy. Does this cancer curable.

MD - Radiation Oncology, MBBS, DNB (Radiotherapy)
Oncologist, Howrah
With proper treatment 5-yr survival rate in stage 2 breast cancer is very good. Radiotherapy will be required for tumor size more than 5 cm or when there is lymph node involvement. If the surgery is BCS not MRM, postoperative radiotherapy will be given. Chemotherapy toxicity depends in particular chemotherapy drugs. Share the details of chemotherapy treatment for further information.

No cervical cancer is generally not inherited, but yes it is very common in india. You should strongly consider regular screening with pap smear if concerned. It will help in detecting the disease early, when it is more effectively treatable and curable.

Oncologist, Mumbai
For a gall bladder cancer which has been found accidentally on the choloecystectomy surgery, we need to do a repeat ct/mri to see for any residual disease. After this, we need to do a repeat surgery where we remove some part of the liver and the lymph nodes which are around that area. We send all this for pathology check up and based on this report, the final stage of the disease is decided. Based on this the further chemotherapy is planned.

Hello It's not side effects of surgery. But might be less exercise and some medicines. You should consult doctor for advice. Meanwhile more fluids, fruits and plenty of green vegetables helps. Isabgol one table spoon with a glass of milk also good.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help for your brother. As I understand, an esophagus cancer as in your brother's case is usually an aggressive cancer. Especially, in the context of a recurrence/ metastasis (to liver and pancreas) despite earlier chemo/radio therapy, neither a cure nor his overall survival can be guaranteed at this juncture. Nevertheless, given his serious condition, as you describe, I would advise that he be given prompt and appropriate palliative care/ support first, preferably in a hospital setting. Again, in the above-mentioned context, I can at most make a sincere attempt to improve his quality of life through safe complementary & alternative medicines (CAM), as an adjunct to the ongoing mainstream conventional treatment, if any. You can connect with detailed diagnostics and treatment history for further traction using CAM. Hope this helps. Do take care and all the very best. Sincerely,

Can I continue to use complementary therapies, take herbal remedies or vitamin supplements when I'm on chemotherapy?

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
There is no harm, but one has to verify that the alternative medicine and the chemotherapy drugs you are taking do ot have the conjunctive effect. If the exact details of the side effects is not known it is better to avoid to prevent the harmful effects.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking clarification. Well, as I understand, primary heart cancers are extremely rare the exact reason of which is not clearly known. However, metastatic heart cancers occur more frequently than the primary heart cancers, and the same is usually treated conventionally like other cancer types. Simultaneously, it is understood that an integrative treatment with alternative medicines helps improve clinical outcomes too. Hope this clarifies. Take care. Sincerely,

I took a blood test 2 days back and got the report and it says lymphocytes is low that is 16.9% am I have to check the cancer test or how to increase the level to 20 please suggest me.

MD - Alternate Medicine, Phd - Medical Biochemistry
Oncologist, Delhi
Mr. lybrate-user I am not sure why you went for the blood test. Also why you may be connecting your report to cancer. Cancer may have seperate and totally different symptoms that may be worried about. Lymphocytes are cells of the lymphatic system that helps clear the blood from all its waste matter. These may go up and down periodically with many reasons playing their functions in our body. Lymphatic system have many cells that are dead cells floating into the lymphatic veins or even blood but is not and should not be directly connected to cancer. In case you are worried about some inheritance in cancer then we may have to study your profile as a whole before any cancer test can be recommended.

Once infection has occurred and that too with pus formation,it becomes very difficult for body to get rid of that infection very soon....very high doses of strong antibiotics are required to treat it...if the antibiotics work then it could be all well in a week or so
