My son 4 y old has a nodule, small lump ,or knot like on his neck near thyroid gland. He complains no pain or any difficulty while eating or swelling. Notably the small lump is so small that one can not notice while looking at his neck normally. Wht it may be.

If the node moves with swallowing it is associated with the thyroid gland. Otherwise you can ignore it as of now.

You should get vaginal examination at least once a year. This is important for general health assessment and the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases. If you are using birth control medication, there might be irregularity in the hormonal cycles and this can lead to a number of conditions, another reason to get an annual vaginal examination.

It's a good habit to be pro-health and take preventive measure. But the important practical part that is very important to stay healthy is adapting a healthy lifestyle. So eating healthy ,exercising every day, sleeping sufficiently and keeping the mind relaxed will ensure that the body is at its optimum level. That would complete the whole circle of health.

Meri beti biscuits jyada khati hai kya iska uske dimag par asar padega wo padhne me kamjor hai aur jo yaad karti hai jaldi bhool jati.

Dietitian/Nutritionist,
Side Effects Of Biscuits Many people believed that since soda bicarbonate remedies indigestion, biscuits, which contain baking powder, might also help with the same. However, not all biscuits provide a remedy for digestive disorders. Moreover, refined flour used in biscuits may cause constipation in some individuals. Gluten allergy is one of the major side effects of biscuits. Individuals who suffer from Celiac’s disease or any form of gluten allergy may not be able to consume traditional biscuits. Another side effect of biscuits concerns the amount of sugar and fats in biscuits. Most of the calories in biscuits come from the sugars. In addition, if you are consuming cream biscuits, sugar topped biscuits, biscuits with jams and preserves, and so on, you continue to add calories to snack time. Tips On Biscuits Intake Recommended quantity of biscuits intake may depend on what kind of weight goal you are planning to achieve. While biscuits can certainly make healthy snacks, the idea is to consume them in moderation. When to consume biscuits depends on whether you utilize them as snacks or as part of your daily diet to fulfill certain dietary deficiencies. However, the best way to consume biscuits includes dividing them into moderate portion sizes (2 to 3 medium-sized biscuits) eaten between larger meals or at snack hour. Other healthy ways to eat biscuits include consuming homemade biscuits and biscuits that are rich in dietary fiber and low in sodium and sugars. You may also purchase biscuits that specifically read low in fat, no trans fat, or fewer calories. Since the quality of biscuits depends on the ingredients used, ensure that you pick biscuits that read ‘made from whole grain’, multigrain crackers, and natural preservatives and additives. Biscuits made from flour attract moisture and may become soggy or stale. Storage tips for store bought biscuits include keeping them in airtight containers. Canned biscuit dough should be frozen or refrigerated according to the instructions on its label. Do not consume biscuits post the date of expiry. Not all biscuits provide a remedy for digestive disorders. The bad effects of biscuits are: Gluten allergy is one of the major side effects of biscuits. Since most biscuits contain refined flour they may cause constipation in some individuals. Individuals who suffer from Celiac’s disease may not be able to consume traditional biscuits. Another side effect of biscuits concerns the amount of sugar and fats in biscuits. Most of the calories in biscuits come from the sugars. So, if you are consuming cream biscuits, sugar topped biscuits, biscuits with jams and preserves, and so on, you continue to add calories to snack time. Cream Biscuits: - Kids absolutely love cream biscuits. But these have to be avoided for being extremely sweet and containing artificial colors and flavors. You should keep them to the minimum and choose other kinds of biscuits. Biscuits are not a good source of fibre. In fact, one serving of fruit provides as much fibre as a biscuit, but with negligible calories. Biscuits that are high in sugar and low on nutrition can harm your body when taken in excess and at wee hours of the day.

How Lack of Sleep Impacts Your Health?

MD
General Physician, Mumbai
How Lack of Sleep Impacts Your Health?

Sleep is an activity where you do nothing, but rest. You relax your body and mind, you rest your bones and muscles and you rest your eyes after a long day of physical exertion. It is extremely necessary for you to get ample amount of sleep to stay healthy.

Otherwise there are various problems which you might have to face if you are lacking sleep:

  1. Elevates the risk of stroke: According to study, people who get less sleep are more prone to having strokes than those who get enough sleep. If you sleep for less than 6 hours every day, you multiply the risk of have a stroke four times than ordinary.
  2. Obesity: Lack of sleep can cause obesity. It usually forces you to take erratic food decisions, leading you to eat a lot of junk food. Less sleep administers certain hormonal changes which make you feel hungrier and believe that you haven’t eaten enough food. The production of the hormone ghrelin, which controls your hunger, increases due to less sleep. Hence, it may lead to obesity if you keep eating without keeping a check on what you eat.
  3. Increases the risk of diabetes: Sleep and the production of insulin are inversely related to each other. Among teenagers, the less you sleep; the more insulin resistant your body becomes. This means the body is not able to use the insulin effectively.
  4. Results in poor memory: Less sleep causes tiredness. When you are extremely tired, you are not able to focus on anything going on around you, you cannot concentrate on your work, and you get forgetful. In fact, consistent lack of sleep can even cause permanent loss of memory. This is because you are not being able to fully utilize the memory boosting ability of sleep. This eventually causes brain deterioration which results in permanent memory loss.
  5. Affects your heart: Lack of sleep can have an extremely negative impact on your heart. Less sleep also causes stress and strain to your body and mind. It results in an increased production of certain chemicals and hormones in the body which is harmful for your heart. According to a study in 2011, people who sleep less than 6 hours every day increase the risk of having heart problems by almost 48%.

It is not very healthy to sleep less as it can complicate your daily life activities. Sleep enough and stay healthy. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult the doctor and ask a free question.

Hi Doctor, My eyes are getting red always ,sometimes much red even I can't show my eyes someone .I don't have any sight problem. I am working in IT firm. I contacted eye specialist but no luck they said it's allergy. They told me that I have to find why it happens .Can you please help me out ,I am really fed of this red eyes.

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Sangrur
Hello there are many causes for redness of eyes mainly allergy, infection, inflammation and dry eyes etc. 1. Redness + itching: allergy 2. Redness + pain + watering + decreased vision: infection 3. Redness + pain: inflammation 4. Redness foreign body sensation: dryness if there is only redness then it is normal as slight exposure to dust, temperature or air or eyes may be red in morning. Stress may also cause redness. I usually do not treat when there is only redness, you can 1. Blink a lot 2. Wash eyes with fresh water 3. Cold compresses 4. Use lubricating eye drop like flogel these measures will help to keep your eyes healthy but it will not have any effect on redness (treating general redness alone is not necessary also) having said that you should consult local ophthalmologist for proper examination and treatment.

My mother is 51 years old she is hypo thyroid and her TSH level is 6.5 (ref range is. 55-4.7), she is taking 50 mcg thyronorm every day but once in a week she take 100 mcg as prescribed by the doctor. She is taking this dose from last 3 months but still her results comes out more than the referral range kindly suggest what dose she need to change.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
When on treatment with thyroxine tsh levels should be maintained between 3 to 4 milli units/ml. Once the treatment is started, it is necessary to check tsh level after 6 to 8 weeks. I think you have done it, and still the tsh is showing a higher level. It means current dose is inadequate. If you give details of her tsh level when diagnosis was made along with her height and weight, I can guide in terms of correct dose for her. But even otherwise she needs to increase the dose. Initially tsh needs to be checked every 6 to 8 weeks, till it is brought to desired level as mentioned above. With regards.

I am 42 years old and I am suffering from blood uric acid, breathe problem, weakness then what I should do?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
A high uric acid level can be caused when your body either produces too much uric acid or your kidneys don't eliminate uric acid rapidly enough. A high uric acid level may cause increasingly frequent attacks of gout, or it may never cause problems. A high uric acid level may also cause some people to develop kidney stones or kidney failure. And some people with a high uric acid level also develop high blood pressure, heart disease or chronic kidney disease, but it's often unclear whether this is a direct cause or merely an early warning sign of these conditions. Factors that may cause a high uric acid level in your blood include: Diuretic medications (water pills),Drinking too much alcohol,Genetics (inherited tendencies),hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid),Immune-suppressing drugs,Niacin, or vitamin B-3, obesity, psoriasis, Purine-rich diet — organ meat, game meat, anchovies, herring, gravy, dried beans, driedpeas, mushrooms and other foods Renal insufficiency — inability of the kidneys to filter waste Tumor lysis syndrome — a rapid release of cells into the blood caused by certain cancers or by chemotherapy for those cancers,Also, you may be monitored for high uric acid levels when undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer. Avoid protein diets, avoid more milk products. bad habits , fast food/fat/oily,salty foods. Coffee, smoking, alcohol intake. Non-veg., take whole grain, oats, green veg.,plenty of water in day time, 1 glass of water at night before bed. Take tab. Zyloric 100 mg once a day. Tab. Ulracet sos for pain in joints.

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hello, White patches on your skin are a common type of depigmented skin lesion associated with an infection, allergy, or autoimmune disorder. One common cause of white spots, or hypopigmentation, is a fungal infection of the skin known as tinea versicolor (associated with other symptoms, such as itching or dryness on or around the white patches). This fungal infection is not contagious and can be treated easily with over-the-counter medications. Please tell me other symptoms like about sensation on the area, since how long do you have this patch, any family history of white patch, etc. In the mean time you can take cal phos 6x, 4 tabs twice daily. Do send me a clear photo of the affected area.
