Hello lybrate user, back pain that is associated with day time sedentary jobs like computer professional s are associated with paraspinal muscle spasms. The best way to tackle this sort of pain is to do well spaced stretching exercises of the back, back extension exercises, using hot water bags to provide relief and avoiding stooping posture while sitting. Posture also plays a very important part in back pain, always maintain a straight posture while sitting. While getting up from the bed try to first go on your left or right side of the body and get up side ways. Avoid cruntches or sit-ups: they may increase the pressure on your back and may predispose to slip disc. Always maintain a healthy lifestyle in terms of regular brisk walking, meditation, eating healthy. P. S: try to avoid pain killers (analgesics) as much as possible as many are associated with side effects that you may not be aware of. Stay healthy. Stay happy god bless you.

Don't assume anything. Get a check up done first by an orthopedic doctor. Mostly while gymming, if any injury happens, it usually is a microtear which gets healed slowly itself by giving the part rest, ice and protection. But to know its minor or major you need to first get a check up done.

It might be mechanical back pain but i'll suggest you visit a physiotherapist so that you can be personally examined. There can be mild joint compression or degeneration leading to core muscle weakness, but that's nothing to worry about. Few physiotherapy sessions and proper posture and ergonomics guidance will solve your problem I hope.

Identify the mid point between the ankle bone and tendons and give pressure with a blunt edge on either side of your foot for 2 minutes. Also give pressure in the web between 2nd and 3rd finger from your toe for 2 minutes. Finally give a good massage for both feet in hot water. Identify the dipping portion on the back of your knee folding. Press this dip with both middle fingers and hold your knee with your thumbs for support. Please swing 20 times morning and evenings. This will relieve your problem. Inform after 10 days.

For leg pain, please follow the below advise: keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day.

Even I can not sleep with my friends or with family member, they will make fun at me, because I will punch my calf myself and pushing my leg for pain relief without my knowledge while sleeping. And I can not able to sit for more than 15 minutes, can not able to drive car for more than a hour. Checked with many doctors and took many medicines, but no use. Sir I am having pain in my knee since 2 days what should I do?

MS - Orthopaedics, MBBS
Orthopedist,
You have not mentioned your age. Anyways if you relatively young and fit and do a lot of climbing stairs and squatting; probably you are suffering from softening of the knee cartilage or chondromalacia. This will get better with rest, physio- quads exercises, bracing and avoiding stairs and sitting with knees extended. If you are on the elderly side we have to investigate for osteoarthritis of the knee. If you have other joint pains we need to investigate for sero negative arthropathy. Regards

My mother is suffering from rheumatoid arthritis since 12 year please tell me the list of right medicine.

MBBS, MS - Orthopaedics
Orthopedist, Delhi
Rheumatoid arthritis is a self limiting disease. Acute phase can be managed with medicines. Physiotherapy helps in preventing contractures & deformities. Keep your moral up! Any way take IBUPROFEN 200mg OD & SOS x 5days Caldikind plus (Mankind) 1Tab ODx10days You will need other supportive medicines also. Do knee exercises It may have to be further investigated Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. Do ask for detailed treatment plan. Do not ignore .It could be beginning of a serious problem. In established cases of Rheumatoid arthritis DMRD ( disease modifying drugs)egMETHOTRAXATE ,HCQS ,LEFUNOMIDE, SAAZ etc. have to be used. They all are toxic drugs & can cause bone marrow depression along with other side effects. They should be taken under medical supervision.

I am a 30 year old married female. For past 2 months I am suffering from neck pain caused as a result of using double pillow. The xray observation says" minimal disc space reduction seen at C4-C5 and C5-C6" and" marginal posterior osteophytes are seen at C3 to C6 vertebrae" with conclusion as" F/s/o early cervical spondylosis with marginal disc space reduction at C4-C5, C5-C6" I would like to know what is the permanent cure for this apart from neck exercises and what preventive steps to be taken to lead a normal life.

M.Ch - Neuro Surgery, MBBS
Neurosurgeon, Mumbai
Hello Ms. Lybrate-user, sorry to hear this. Your x-ray is suggestive of cervical spondylosis which is simple terms can be explained as early arthritis of the neck (cervical spine). Unfortunately there is no way to reverse the damage already done to your spine. The thing you can do is slow down the progression of this condition by following the few simple things. 1. Quit smoking 2. Weight loss 3. Avoid lifting heavy weights 4. Avoid sudden forceful neck movements 5. Neck strengthening exercises 6. Maintain good posture 7. Ergonomic adjustment to your work place like adjusting the height of your chair, table etc. Best wishes.
