I have pcos I am confused by so many options in net. I am so much worried about my future. Plzzz help me wr should I start form.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist,
Pcos is not a life threatening disease. Its a lifestyle disease which has become common place due to nutiritonal betterment and lack of physical work. The basic problem is that like diabetes, persons with pcos have inability for the sugar to enter the cells. But here there is excess weight gain and hormonal disturbance in which the menses become irregular, and there are excess facial hair and obesity. The best way to deal with pcos is to keep a healthy life style, be more physically active eat in moderation, and have a balanced diet if you are over weight then you can go for exercises and be actively involved in reducing weight. This is the best you can do irregular menses are not a problem, unless they are accompanied with excess bleeding. So the best bet is to lead a healthy physically active lifestyle and keep weight in check to ideal after marriage you can go for a child early and if you do not conceive in 6 months of marriage, you must take help of a gynec.

I recently read that researchers believe certain foods might cure Alzheimer's disease. Is this true? If so, which foods do this and how much would you have to consume together the benefits?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS

There have been some claims that coconut oil could be used as a treatment, or even a cure, for alzheimer's disease. However, there is currently not enough experimental evidence to back up these claims.

I m 25 year old suffering from hair fall and dandruff can see hair fall when I am applying oil and shampoo.

I m 25 year old suffering from hair fall and dandruff can see hair fall when I am applying oil and shampoo.
Hi. It's normal to lose up to 100 hair per day, and in most people, those hairs grow back. But many men -- and some women -- lose hair as they grow older. You can also lose your hair if you have certain diseases, such as thyroid problems, diabetes, or lupus. If you take certain medicines or have chemotherapy for cancer, you may also lose your hair. Other causes are stress, a low protein diet, a family history, use of bore water, or nutritional deficiencies. Need to rule out any causative factor or underlying medical condition. Management: Take diet rich in protein like non-veg, eggs (it's loaded with essential nutrients such as proteins, vitamin b12, iron, zinc and omega 6 fatty acids in large amounts and biotin), different pulses & legumes, sprouts, nuts (sp. Walnuts and almonds); iron-rich food like green vegetables, dates, carrots, prunes, green peas; also oats, shrimp, take flaxseeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, green tea, soyabean, fruits, salads, etc. Take low-fat dairy products (they also contain whey and casein, two high-quality protein sources) take proper 6-9hrs of sound sleep. Give up the habit of smoking and excessive alcohol intake. Avoid junk food and any kind of beverages (tea, coffee, aerated drinks, cold drinks, etc.) avoid canned/ tinned food or food that contains preservatives (eat fresh ones). Avoid use of hard water to wash the head rather use boiled water for head wash. Avoid use of harsh hair colour, hair treatment like rebonding, straightening, perming, etc. Avoid vigorous exercises or any supplements provided by the gym! cover your head with scarf or cap while stepping outside. Use rose wood/ any wooden hair comb to brush your hair. Regular exercising is also one of the important point, but should be done under some good, qualified yoga teacher or instructor for proper guidance; it also releases the stress/ tension in the mind and the body and keeps you fit and young! Medication: Take homoeopathic medicines - Schwabe's Badiaga 200, Wiesbaden 200 & Alfalfa tonic twice a day for 1 month and revert. Use Schwabe's Anti-dandruff shampoo and Anti-Dandruff oil regularly as per the condition of your scalp (minimum 3 times a week). After shampooing, use Bakson's Arnica hair conditioner as well after every head wash.

10 Important Tips for Preventing Acne

BHMS
Homeopath, Hyderabad
10 Important Tips for Preventing Acne

1. Keep your face clean. Whether or not you have acne, it's important to wash your face twice daily to remove impurities, dead skin cells, and extra oil from your skin's surface. Washing more often than twice daily is not necessarily better; it may do more harm than good. Use warm, not hot, water and a mild facial cleanser. Using a harsh soap (like deodorant body soap) can hurt the already inflamed skin and cause more irritation.

Avoid scrubbing your skin harshly with a washcloth, an exfoliating glove, or loofah (a coarse-textured sponge). Gently wash it with a very soft cloth or your hands. Always rinse well, and then dry your face with a clean towel. (toss the towel in the laundry hamper, as dirty towels spread bacteria.) also, use the washcloth only once.

2. Moisturize. Many acne products contain ingredients that dry the skin, so always use a moisturizer that minimizes dryness and skin peeling. Look for" noncomedogenic" on the label, which means it should not cause acne. There are moisturizers made for oily, dry, or combination skin.

3. Try an over-the-counter acne product. These acne products don't need a prescription. Most of them have ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, or lactic acid, which curb bacteria and dry your skin. They may cause drying or peeling so start with a small amount at first. Then you can adjust how much you use and how often. Another option is a new otc topical retinoid gel. It works to actually keep the acne from forming. Use these products with caution if you have sensitive skin.

4. Use makeup sparingly. During a breakout, avoid wearing foundation, powder, or blush. If you do wear makeup, wash it off at the end of the day. If possible, choose oil-free cosmetics without added dyes and chemicals. Choose makeup that is labelled as" noncomedogenic" meaning it should not cause acne. Read the ingredients list on the product label before buying.

5. Watch what you put on your hair. Avoid using fragrances, oils, pomades, or gels on your hair. If they get on your face, they can block your skin's pores and irritate your skin. Use a gentle shampoo and conditioner. Oily hair can add to the oil on your face, so wash your hair often, especially if you're breaking out. Got long hair? keep it pulled away from your face.

6. Keep your hands off your face. Avoid touching your face or propping your cheek or chin on your hands. Not only can you spread bacteria, you can also irritate the already inflamed facial skin. Never pick or pop pimples with your fingers, as it can lead to infection and scarring.

7. Stay out of the sun. The sun's ultraviolet rays can increase inflammation and redness, and can cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (dark discoloration). Some acne medications may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Limit your time in the sun, especially between the hours of 10 a. M. And 2 p. M, and wear protective clothing, such as a long-sleeved shirt, pants, and a broad-brimmed hat. Whether you have pimples or not, always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with spf 30 or higher at least 20 minutes before sun exposure. Look for" noncomedogenic" on the sunscreen label to make new pimples less likely. Read the ingredients on the product label to know what you're putting on your skin.

8. Feed your skin. Most experts agree that certain foods, like chocolate, don't cause pimples. Still, it makes sense to avoid greasy food and junk food and add more fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains to your diet. Dairy products and foods high in processed sugar may trigger acne. Avoid these.

9. Exercise daily. Regular exercise is good for your whole body, including your skin. When you exercise, avoid wearing clothing or using exercise equipment that rubs your skin and may cause irritation. Shower or bathe right after exercise.

10. Chill! some studies link stress with the severity of pimples or acne. Ask yourself what's making you feel stressed. Then look for solutions.

When in doubt, check with a dermatologist to see if you need more treatment to prevent or stop acne.

Vaginal Yeast Infection - 6 Signs You are Suffering from it

DGO, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Delhi
Vaginal Yeast Infection - 6 Signs You are Suffering from it

The female reproductive organ is an area of the human body where many microbial organisms inhabit together and it is a necessary requirement for its health. These organisms may include fungi and bacteria and play important roles individually in maintaining the pH levels (the acidic and alkaline balance) levels of the vagina. However, when one of these, especially the fungi go out of balance and begin to propagate, it results in a vaginal yeast infection.

Symptoms
A yeast infection or vaginal candidiasis is a fungal infection that causes extreme itchiness of the vulva (which is the opening of the vagina) and the further insides of the vagina as well. It may result in a white discharge from time to time and causes vaginal inflammation. Some of the other symptoms are:

  1. Pain in the vagina akin to a burning sensation while urinating or when having sex
  2. Rashes in the vagina
  3. General soreness and pain
  4. White odorless discharge, which is thick in consistency
  5. Colorless watery discharges can occur as well
  6. Swelling and redness near the vulva or the vagina in general

Causes
The type of fungi that causes vaginal yeast infections is the ‘candida fungus’. Usually, this fungus is present within the vagina, but is kept in check by the Lactobacillus bacteria. These are bacteria naturally present within the vagina and secrete acids, which keep the fungi in check. However, when the levels of bacteria are reduced, it will cause the levels of fungi to increase causing a yeast infection.

Risk Factors
The below mentioned factors can aggravate the risks of this disease:

  1. Problems brought on by diabetes
  2. A compromised immune system
  3. Pregnancy may also disturb the balance
  4. Starting to use or stopping the use of oral contraceptive pills
  5. Hormone therapy
  6. Usage of antibiotics that may kill off lactobacillus bacteria within the vagina

Generally, yeast infections are not considered to be sexually transmitted, although yeast infection could be spread through sexual contact as well.

The primary treatment includes a course of anti fungal oral medication to lessen the levels of the fungi within your vagina. It could be supplemented with vaginal creams, which may reduce the itching and the inflammation. If you have recurrent infection multiple times within a year, then you may have to go for a longer course of treatment and correct the underlying conditions that may be causing it. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist and ask a free question.

My skin is oily. Pimples are plenty in the face. Please tell the medicines to prevent that.

BHMS
Homeopath, Sindhudurg
My skin is oily. Pimples are plenty in the face. Please tell the medicines to prevent that.
Homeopathic treatment has very encouraging results in acne and pimples and gives relief in long term. Moreover all medications are natural, safe, gentle, effective, easy to administer and without any adverse effects. With homoeopathic medicines, also take the following self-care steps to lessen the effects of acne: Clean your skin gently with a mild soap removing all dirt or make-up. Wash many times a day with plain water. Try not to squeeze, scratch, pick, or rub the pimples. Although it might be tempting to do this, it can lead to scarring and skin infections. Avoid touching your face with your hands or fingers. Identify and avoid anything that aggravates pimples. Your triggers may include foods, lotions, or make-up. Avoid greasy cosmetics or creams. Look for water-based or" non-comedogenic" formulas. Take make-up off at night. . Homeopathic treatment is strongly recommended for patients who are desperately looking for an effective remedy. If you have any specific question about your condition, consult for treatment.

Hi I am male working in night shift for past 7 years and my age is 29. My problem is am unable talk frequently with any of them always thinking something and concentration going down feeling lonely feeling very tired and long sleep. Don't care for anything. Please help me on this how I am come out from this.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
You may be into a depression. The night shift for so many years is not at all good for your system. You are breaking your bio-rhythm in a gross manner so that your body bio-clock will be out of sync with the normal time by a huge margin. This affects three important aspects of your life: the energy levels, the mood levels, and the metabolic rate. This is further known to skew your orientation to such an extent that it like going through jetlag every day without your knowledge or its seeming effect! your social life is also gone for a toss in the bargain. If this is the only problem, you are fortunate indeed. All you have to do is to get back to a daytime shift, if that can be arranged. If it is the typical depression, then it sounds like it is anger related and you must meet with a counselor immediately and deal with your feelings. If it a combination of the shift and the depression, I would still recommend a change in the work timings to see what effect that has. In my opinion, it will work.
