Benefits of Breastfeeding for Baby & Mother

Breastfeeding is best for the baby and its benefits extend well beyond the paradigm of basic nutrition. Breast milk contains all the vital vitamins and nutrients, which a baby needs in the first six months of life. It is fully loaded with disease fighting substances, which protect baby from illness. Many international paediatric organisation recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and recent research reports have proven that breastfeeding is good for both mother and the baby.

Breastfeeding protects the baby from a long list of illnesses, such as ear infections, lower respiratory illnesses, stomach disorder and meningitis and are less severe when they do happen. Breast milk adapts as the baby grows to meet the changing needs. Breastfeeding builds a strong emotional bond between the mother and the baby and it has long term benefits lasting right into adulthood.

The first milk of the mother contains high concentrations of secretory immunoglobulin A (IgA), which guards against invading germs by forming a protective layer on the mucous membranes in baby's intestines, nose, and throat. Mother's body responds to pathogens (virus and bacteria) that are in her body and makes secretory IgA, which is specific to those pathogens, creating protection for the baby based on to whatever mother is exposed. 

The antibodies in breast milk gives a baby's immune system a boost and also helps children avoid type 1 and type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and inflammatory bowel disease that strike later in life. Babies who were not breastfed run the risk of developing Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

Breastfeeding boosts child's intelligence. Surveys have shown that premature infants with extremely low birth weight who receive breast milk shortly after birth improved their scores of mental development at eighteen months when compared with premature infants who weren't given breast milk. The emotional bonding happening during breastfeeding contributes to some of the brainpower benefits. Breastfeeding lowers the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). It reduces a child's risk of becoming obese as a teen or adult as the breast milk contains less insulin, which stimulates creation of fat. The high content of leptin in the milk regulates appetite and fat.

Breastfeeding triggers the release of the hormone oxytocin that promotes relaxation and nurturing. Oxytocin released while nursing also helps your uterus contract after birth, resulting in less postpartum bleeding. It reduces stress level and the risk of postpartum depression. Research studies show that breastfeeding results in changes in breast tissue and lactation reduces the production of oestrogen, which reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancer. It also reduces the risk of osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease.

Reducing substance is either negative or positive. Weakly positive has no meaning. 6-7 loose motion are not very abnormal if these are small in quantity and passing urine normal. Do not interrupt feeding if she passes stool during feed. Take care of anal part keeping it clean and dry. Continue breast feeding. Semi solids may be added in diet.

Constipation is easily manageable through a prescribed diet. I will prescribe a high fiber diet customized to your case. Do avoid over-the-counter laxatives. Increasing exercise is also important if you lead a sedentary lifestyle. What You Need to Know About Epilepsy And Seizures in Children!

Epilepsy is defined as a neurological disorder, which affects people of all age groups. However, the cases of seizures are found more in young children (likely to occur in as many as 4% of children) than in adults. It is still not known as to why a developing brain is more prone to seizures than a mature brain. A child is said to be suffering from epilepsy when they occur frequently. 

As parents your responsibilities are compounded if your child has epilepsy. You not only have to pay heed towards the normal concerns of his/her upbringing but also have to look into your child's emotional aspects, while dealing with the disorder in your day to day life.

You can help your child deal with the condition in the following ways:

1. It is quite likely that your child may feel resentful and develop emotional issues, such as depression or low self-esteem. Help your child cultivates positive attitude towards life and his/her disease.

2. Try to make your child come to terms with reality by helping him/her to understand that even though he/she may be different, he/she shouldn't look upon the condition as something that is abnormal. It is best to help your child concentrate on his/her strengths at such times.

3. Help your child participate in activities of his/her choice to instill positivity in life.

4. Make sure your other children understand their sibling's ailment and if he/she feels neglected try and spend more time with him/her. If need be, seek family counselling to make everyone understand how to deal with your child's illness.

5. Learn about your child's medication schedule thoroughly and also find out what he/she needs to do in case a dose of medication is missed.

6. Develop an environment where he/she feels comfortable and can easily share a concern or anxieties.

Parenting Tips for Fever in Children

Fever in children is a very common phenomenon, but still parents absolutely dread it. It can completely break your heart to suddenly see a happy, healthy child not getting up from the bed. Your first instinct when that thermometer crosses that dreaded 100 degrees F is to rush to the doctor for an immediate cure. That is probably the best remedy as a doctor can often catch additional signs of any disease that you may miss out on. Beyond that, here is how you can understand about fever in children better and how you can help. Technically, your child has fever when the body temperature crosses 100.4 degrees F.
 
Some children manage to stay active even then, but slowly get bogged down with muscle pain or other accompanying symptoms like cold, diarrhea, vomiting etc. 

  • Causes: Fever is normally caused by the body's reaction to fighting an infection. (That is why most doctors say it's a sign of a robust immune system). When the body's natural defense system is stimulated, the core inner temperature rises, thereby making it harder for the bacteria and viruses that caused the infection to survive. Most fever subside on their own but that's a tough thing to accept as a parent who only wants to see their child up and running as soon as possible.
  • What you can do: Keep an eye on that temperature obviously. You need to find a doctor the moment the fever crosses the threshold temperature (101+ for less than three months olds, 102+ for 3-6 month olds and over 102 for older children). You should also see a doctor if there are accompanying symptoms or if you've given a dose of Paracetamol but the fever shows no sign of subsiding. It might happen at midnight and beyond, when no regular pediatrician is unavailable. So it is best to find out which hospital has an emergency center capable of handling such eventualities near your home. 
  • Fever medications: It is super important for parents to know that fever medications must be given in the correct dose at the right times based on a child's weight, age, and overall health. An overdose can lead you straight to the emergency room. Don't mix a cold/cough medication that also has a fever medication in it. 
  • Home remedies: Encourage your child to drink as much fluids as possible to prevent dehydration. Some doctors advise complete body sponging to bring down the temperature and this can be done as long as it doesn't cool the body too suddenly (there are contradictory notes on this practice, so do consult you doctor before your do this).

 As parent, it is important you equip yourself with the right knowledge before you provide treatment to your child.

It's atopic dermatitis. Apply desoven cream small quantities over affected areas once a day and atogla cream larger quantities. First cream for 5 days and second for 10 days thanks. Use atogla cream twice a day for 7 days.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a brain disorder marked by an ongoing pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development. Here’s how to help yourself overcome sleeping problems: •Buy an egg timer. Using a tangible instrument like an egg timer helps keep your family on track with bedtime schedules. •Commit to a set schedule. Make sure that you go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every morning, including weekends. Staying up later on weekend nights and wake up later the next morning just makes your weekdays more difficult. If you are fighting fatigue despite the set schedule, you might need to increase your sleep time. Remember that younger children do need more sleep than older children. •Remove sources of stimulation. During the hour you get ready for bed, turn off the TV, music, computers, and video games. Don’t engage in arguments or initiate any rough play. This is an hour that should be very peaceful, That means that parents also need to be peaceful — no arguing with each other or the children. •Use a reward system. Give yourself stars, or stickers that can be traded in the next morning for a small reward. These rewards come when expected actions, like brushing teeth, are completed on time. Rewards may also be earned by staying in bed after lights-out. •Keep the house quiet. During the bedtime preparation and once you are in bed, keep the house quiet and calm. It’s a good idea to keep your voices down and turn down TV and music. •Return calmly to bed. Even with a reward system and a cozy bed, you might still want to get up. Return to bed without indulging in talking, arguing, threatening , or any other energizing activity. •Allow a full hour to get ready for bed. Once you have your egg timer, you can use it to count down the hour you need to wind down. Here’s how to break down the hour: oFirst 30 minutes: Set the egg timer for 30 minutes. This period of time is for hygiene — bathing, brushing teeth, and putting on pajamas. ONext 15 minutes: Set the egg timer for 15 minutes. This period of time is for a relaxing activity, such as reading a book, doing some relaxation exercises, or practicing deep breathing. OFinal 15 minutes: Set the timer for 15 minutes. This is for getting into bed (and staying there). In bed, there should be some sort of ritual between the parent and the child. Consider reading a favorite book, snuggling, praying, identifying good things that happened that day, telling a favorite story, or some other soothing and affectionate activity. Lights go out at the last “ding.” •Wake up gently. You need a good plan for waking The “bugle call” approach can actually set you up for a day-long spiral of ill temper. Instead, try a gentle action, such as opening the blinds or listening to a calm music and getting up. •Build in getting-ready time. You may need a morning schedule that is just as generous in time and structure as their pre-bed ritual. A chaotic rush to get out the door sets the wrong tone for the day. •Limit Caffeine and stimulants late in the day and Be Active. Caffeine and other stimulants consumed too close to bed time will keep you tossing and turning all night. The same goes for taking stimulant prescription medications too late in the day. •Exercise. Not only is exercise beneficial for your overall health, but it plays a very big role in helping you sleep and feel better. However, it is not recommended to workout or engage in any major exercise too close to bed either. It can actually have the opposite effect in helping you achieve the rest you desire. Try and get regular exercise during the day or very early evening to avoid being wired at night. Regards,

Well hardly any milk output at 2-3 years baby. It is too late to start food. Cereals and chapaties, bread. Now is time to give find taste of child so that it will be easier to switch over. Cereals diet is important. Milk has poor calories and if we try to correct it, result in too much protein which will bring other complication. Thanks.

So, here are 15 health tips that will help you manage your diabetes effectively: 

  1. You should quit smoking as it is very bad for diabetic patients. Smoking leads to narrowing of the blood vessels, which reduces proper blood circulation.
  2. You have to track your exercise patterns. Take actual notes about your exercise habits and make necessary changes based on the record.
  3. Eliminate fast food from your diet. Avoid eating out at restaurants and avoid taking extra salt, sugar and calories. You should cook your meals at home with light ingredients and less salt and sugar.
  4. Diabetes severely affects your vision and blindness is and blindness is a serious problem which may occur. Hence, get your vision checked regularly to prevent retinopathy.
  5. Avoid having quick coffees. Fancy cups of coffee are full of sugar, which lead to glucose and insulin fluctuation in your body.
  6. You must stay active and fit. This is the most important lifestyle choice for any diabetic patient. By exercising, you will maintain a good shape, your metabolism gets boosted and the insulin production increases as well.
  7. You should use a pedometer to calculate how much you are moving each day while exercising.
  8. Try to consume fruits and vegetables. By trying new vegetables and fruits, you will be able to keep your blood sugar under check and see how your body reacts.
  9. You must increase your amount of fibre intake. Fibre is important for diabetic patients, which keeps the digestive processes to run smoothly. Your cholesterol level decreases and blood sugar levels may reduce if you take enough fibre.
  10. You should chew gum as it keeps your mouth busy. It makes you crave for less food.
  11. You should eat on smaller plates. This is a psychological trick which makes you consume less amount of food and your sugar and calorie levels are maintained.

All this which you have mentioned is normal for this age. Do not stop feeding while baby poops during feed. I am sure you must be feeding exclusively breast milk.

There must be some reason for getting these tested done. To suggest line of management, further details like other investigations, symptoms and signs( personal examination) are nacessary. It shall be best for you to consult a neonatologist.
