How to know well in advance before having a heart attack ??

MD-Physician, PGDCC

How to know well in advance before having a heart attack ??
Did you know that many times heart attack gives you warnings first!
Heart disease or coronary artery blockade is a chronic disease, not always sudden!
Heart may warn you by giving theses signs. Read carefully.
1. Little bit of chest heaviness since few days
2. Mild pain on the left chest with or without left hand/shoulder pain.
3. Shortness of breath while walking fast or climbing stairs
4. Shortness of breath especially on night time with pain.
5. Sometimes severe pain on centre of chest, getting relieved automatically.

So go for a health check as soon as possible if you have such symptoms and can avoid heart attack.

You can get a ECG, 24 HR Holter and Echo as baseline investigations and consult a cardiologist. If both are normal you need not worry.

I am 18 years old and I have high blood pressure. My test reports are normal. What should I do?

MBBS, DNB (General Medicine)
Endocrinologist, Delhi
I am 18 years old and I have high blood pressure. My test reports are normal. What should I do?
Having a high blood pressure will have no affect on your blood/urine test reports. Infact Blood reports like like profile (Cholesterol) are needed only to assess you further for any additional risks apart from Blood pressure. All you need to understand is this- Blood pressure is not a disease - its a tendency. Having high blood pressure exposes your body organs and internal coverings of your blood channels (arteries) to high turbulence of circulation. This effects them to undergo damage with lots of wear and tear. Hence the only objective you have is to keep your blood pressure under control. You can do this by two things - NO. 1 Cut down salt in your diet to as low as possible! NO. 2 Listen to your doctor’s advice for medicine! That’s all!

Blood in vomit or Haemaetemesis is a serious symptom, this could mean a bleeding varices or peptic ulcer. Alongwith chest pain maybe a sign of cardiac involvement. My suggestion to you would be to consult a good physician immediately and investigate the causes.
