1. First of all you need to wear a good quality back support belt only while driving. 2. You should avoid any mattresses of springy kind and adopt any firm mattresses for sleep (synthetic foam is a good one) 3. Daily workout is necessary for improving blood circulation to that part of the body. Do brisk walking or jogging for about 30 min minimum and back extension exercise + spinal rotation exercise. Minimum 45 min - 1 hr exercise is recommended daily for about 5 days a week & rest 1 day yoga for improving flexibility + 1 day pilates / core strengthening exercises. 4. Have balanced diet. Increase your protein + calcium+vit-d3+ antioxidants+ daily water intake.

Hi I am a 32 year old male and shoulder pain for last 6 months. What should i do?

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. There are multiple causes of shoulder pain which can include issues in ligaments, tendons, bursa or the joint itself. I will advise you that if you have a localized pain in your shoulder without any associated swelling, redness or any other sign of infection or inflammation, then start with physical therapy and anti inflammatory medications. See if your pain starts improving in 2-3 weeks time, then its ok otherwise I advise mri of the shoulder to see whats going on because 6 months is long time for pain to continue do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

I have neck pain from last 2 years. I have tried physiotherapy for 3-4 months. But it don't help. I am a 26 year old male and I work continuously on laptop/ PC. What should I do to prevent a serious neck related illness?

MBBS, MD - Anaesthesiology, FIPM
Pain Management Specialist, Pune
I have neck pain from last 2 years. I have tried physiotherapy for 3-4 months. But it don't help. I am a 26 year old ...
Neck pain in your situation could be most likely due to: 1. Poor ergonomics at workplace causing neck muscles strain. 2. Degeneration of cervical spine due to improper weight distribution during computer work. You should follow good ergonomics at workplace to get relief and avoid neck pain. 1 desk should have sufficient knee room so that one can sit close to the front of the desk. 2. The monitor should be placed at arms length 3. Desk should be at a height such that the wrists are maintained in a neutral position when using a computer with the shoulders relaxed. 4. The chair should be adjustable, padded to maintain the spine in a vertical or slightly reclined position. If the chair does not provide adequate low back support then a lumbar cushion should be used. 5. While seated on chair, the hips and knees should be on same level and feet should be flat on the floor. 6. Arm rests should support the elbows and forearms 7. The monitor should be positioned directly in front. 8. The top of monitor should be at eye level. It's preferable to use a computer instead of a laptop from ergonomics point of view. 9. In between work take breaks at 30 -60 mins and perform neck, shoulder, back stretches or take a simple walk.

What exactly is a spine block injection? Will it work long-term for low back pain due to disc problems?

FAMS, MS - Orthopaedics, Diploma In Orthopaedics (D. Ortho)
Orthopedist, Indore
What exactly is a spine block injection? Will it work long-term for low back pain due to disc problems?
Dear Adi, Namaskar, It is a procedure by which a medicine is injected either in the spinal canal ( Epi dural space ) OR in the small arthritic joints of the Spinal Column.... For you it is epi dural , given in disc problems ( when patient is not to be operated and also not responding to the Non- Operative treatment )... It depends on patient to patient and his extent of problem...that this Block works in terms of Time... Sometimes it needs repetition too... Take care.

You need to use lumber belt to support your back and do some exercises to improve your back muscle power and core muscle power which will reduce your pain and look for physiotherapy for lumber traction to relive nerve compression.

Mild knee joint effusion.
2. Ligament strain seen anterior crucait ligament.
What means of this.
It must be investigated Get a MRI of the knee. You would probably need arthroscopic knee surgery. It is a very safe procedure with uniformly good results. Don?t ignore it lest it become beginning of a bigger problem Why not discuss with me in a video conference? ( Facility provided by lybrate.com)

I have pain in my arms and legs some time in very large amount would you please tell me how to stop pain in arms and ...
Please check your vit d and calcium level. Deficiency of both can cause pain in arms and legs. Ain in the arm can result from a number of factors. Abnormalities or injury of the skin, nerves, bones, joints, blood vessels, and soft tissues of the arm can all result in pain. Arm pain may be the result of referred pain from another part of the body. Please go to a physiotherapist to assess and treat the underlying condition. If pain is caused by an activity, modify or stop the activity. Rest the arm and resume activity gradually. Monitor the response to the activity. Pain experienced in the right arm is usually not serious, but when it is coupled with other symptoms like pain in the leg or tightness of the chest, it may be more serious. Try some home remedies: ice will reduce pain and swelling. Apply ice or cold packs immediately to prevent or minimize swelling. Apply the ice or cold pack for 10 to 20 minutes, 3 or more times a day. Elevate the painful area on pillows while applying ice and anytime you are sitting or lying down. Try to keep the area at or above the level of your heart to help minimize swelling. Apply heat and begin gentle exercise with the aid of moist heat to help restore and maintain flexibility. Some experts recommend alternating between heat and cold treatments. Gently massage or rub the area to relieve pain and encourage blood flow. Do not massage the area if it causes pain. Do not smoke or use other tobacco products. Smoking slows healing because it decreases blood supply and delays tissue repair. Please consult a physiotherapist for detail assessment and management of your arm pain. Most leg pain results from wear and tear, overuse, or injuries in joints or bones or in muscles, ligaments, tendons or other soft tissues. Leg pain can also be caused by blood clots, varicose veins or poor circulation. To relieve mild pain: stay off your leg as much as possible apply an ice pack or bag of frozen peas to the affected area for 15 to 20 minutes three times a day elevate your leg whenever you sit or lie down please go to a physiotherapist if: you have pain during or after walking you have swelling in both legs your pain gets worse your symptoms don't improve after a few days of home treatment you have painful varicose veins leg pain happens when your muscles are tired or dehydrated. Drink more water if you're prone to leg cramps. Best wishes.

Hi, thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Actually pain at calf region can be due to many reasons, commonly it is muscular in nature. My advise for you: - ice packs application intensively with elevation of your limbs at night - take a short course of anti-inflammatory medication as per your body's suitability - stop your physical activity till pain completely subsides - intensive physical therapy, training and proper muscle conditioning - slow resumption of physical activities with proper pre activity warm up and stretching of muscles and short increments in duration of physical activity each day as per pain tolerance. - we will get some blood tests for you - serum vitamin d and serum potassium levels, esr and crp once you have all these reports then you can contact me as I can advise you for proper supplementation do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.
