Hello Doctor, My baby is now 6 months old, he is 6 kg born 1 month pre-term with 1.8 kg. He is taking nanpro1 from past 2 months. Doctor suggested to give rapgrow drop and lactodex hmf sachet, but these medicines are really tough to get in the market and I don't see any review for rapgrow. Will it be safe? Also he is continuing zincovit drop and raricap drop.

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Bangalore
As the baby growth is good both length and weight and if developmentally normal, you can stop giving rapgrow and lactodex hmf. Continue with zincovit and iron drops. And important is to give vit d3 (ultra d3) drops 1ml once daily till 1 year of age as we see vit d defeciency very commonly. Start on the weaning diet and iron rich foods so that you can slowly stop iron supplementation if haemoglobin is normal.

The child should be seen by a doctor. She might need a course of antibiotic or a bronchodilator syrup/nebulizer therapy.

My baby is 2 years old and she is drinking lots of milk everyday, so that she is suffering from constipation, what can I do?

FELLOWSHIP IN PCCM, FELLOW-PEDIATRIC FLEXIBLE BRONCHOSCOPY, FELLOWSHIP IN PEDIATRIC CARDIAC CRITICAL CARE, D.C.H., M.B.B.S
Pediatrician, Ahmedabad
Give more fibres in daily diet and plenty of water in a day. Constipation is easy to treat with fibre and green vegetables in diet in raw form rather then cooked form. Along with this you need medicines after showing to pediatrician, of course chronic constipation should be ruled out with thyroid problems for safer sake, and second condition causing the same is hirshprung's disease. Regards.

Hi my son is 7 months old his control was little bit weak. My neurologist asked us to take mri. Results of mri 1. Mild thining of body and splenium of corpus callosum seen with periventriclar hyperintensities. 2. Partial empty sella is seen 3. Dialted vr spaces noticed in left inferior putamen. 4. No obivious demostrable infarct or hemorrhage orsqlin brain parenchyma. Possibility of mild form of perinatal insult is more likely neurologist said nothing bad he is ok but my pediatrician said there will be developmental delay. Which one one right. What to do?

Pediatrician, Pune
Mri reports reflect there has been some perinatal insult, there is periventricular involvement, which could cause some developmental delay, but early intervention by developmental pediatrician with physiotherapy can reduce the problems, also there is partail empty sella, it is the place where the pituitary gland is situated which controls the hormonal system of the body, the child may also require hormonal studies to rule out any hormonal deficiencies, if required hormonal supplementation, please discuss with your pediatrician.

What is the treatment for a child of 18 Months who is having cystic hygroma on left neck. please reply soon.

BHMS, VLIR Belgium, Canadian Academy Of Homeopathy
Homeopath, Navi Mumbai
Cystic hygroma can be treated very effectively with Homeopathy. Was it present since birth? A very common suggestion is get it operated. But if you treat it with homeopathy and have some patience and use homeopathy, it will be gone in a few months and homeopathy will improve the immunity also.

My 5 years old son with DS doesn't have any heart problem but still he fall sick frequently and plus he is very thin and weak.

MBBS, MD
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
majority of children in India is weak at one to five years.reason being inadequite calories in diet.self feeding by age of 10months and feeds cereals based is compomised with milk.milk is good diet but poor in calories . hence it has to be replaced by solid home made food.breast feeds should be reduced in frequency as per age .

I have a niece about 5 months old. Her TSH (thyroid )level is >150. What things should I worry about in future. And is it treatable? I am really worried. Help me.

MBBS MD DCH, Dch
Pediatrician, Muzaffarpur
It is very much treatable. Please continue the medicine in empty stomach as advised by your pedatritrician and keep on monitoring her TSH status at frequent interval 8 to 10 weeks interval and dosage has to be titrated to maintain her euthyroid status. Late diagnosis and noncompliance with treatment may have adverse impact on her psychomotor development.

My son is 5 years old suffering with sneezing because of allergy how to get rid of that?

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Ranchi
The best way is to avoid the allergens if it is known. Allergens can be of various types like dust, pollens, smoke, foods etc. Long term use of some medication like montelukast with levocetrizine helps. Most of the children overcome this allergy as they grow till that time symptomatic treatment and avoidens of allergens is needed.

MD - Homeopathy
Pediatrician, Mumbai
If he is thin and not putting on weight you need to make some variation in his diet. Increase protien intake in the form of sprouts, boiled moong chana, muesli. Try and give him milkshakes daily, dates, jaggery, paneer in a balanced form.

Hi sir, why most of babies cry at night? I always check her passing urine, nd given mother feed also. But still y? My baby can play by morn to midnight after that she can start crying still at morn 4 am.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Most babies are awake at nigh till 3 months of age and crying may be for no reason ( boring just as we feel ) and can also be due to abdominal pain . Anyway it its nor a serious case. You give colimex drops based on age and eight and see if there is reponse

My son is 2 yrs old & frequently suffers from cough, cold & fever. What care should I take? how do I improve his immunity? he generally eats dal-rice, roti, fruits, snax, chocolates & lots of water. What changes are required in his diet?

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
This is usual in first 5 years of life. Treat whenever he gets cough. If it is too frequent, like every fortnight then perhaps he will need bronchodialator.

My son is 11 years old. He is taking juice of neem leaves from the age of 4 years twice every week. It may cause any harm?

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
Don't worry, if it has not caused any problem during last 7 years, it will most probably not cause in future too. Let your son do whatever he likes. If worried too much you can see ayurved specialist for more details.
