Aftercare for Dental Implants

Aftercare for Dental Implants

Dental implants need to be maintained carefully after surgery and for that you got to follow a few essential caring tips.

Best caring tips after dental implants:

  1. Maintaining a healthy diet: Healthy diet needs to be maintained and in this case, only nutritious and soft foods are to be included.
  2. Careful brushing: Only soft bristle brush needs to be used in this regard and do not pressurize the treated areas. In this case, tenderness needs to be considered so that brushing can be conducted carefully without injuring or hurting implants.
  3. Avoid smoking: You are not allowed to continue  smoking after implants, as that can make the situation complicated, as a result, of which you might even experience dreadful consequences. You should follow different steps to completely curtail the smoking habit from your lifestyle.
  4. Scheduling appointments: You should meet your dentist on a frequent basis in order to make sure that everything is perfect. You can also visit your dentist in times of emergencies when you are facing tremendous pain or bleeding.
  5. Maintaining oral hygiene: Oral hygiene is the most important thing, and this is the reason you are advised to use any special mouthwash or any other flossing solution. This step needs to be continued for preventing the growth of unwanted infectious elements as that can ruin the implants completely. You should also carefully brush your teeth without affecting the implanted area.
  6. Avoid cold or hot drinks and foods: You should not take excessively hot or chilled items immediately after dental implants as that might create an adverse situation. This is a strict instruction which is usually given to the patients by their dentists so that implants can be protected and can be maintained in the long run.
  7. Apply ice pack: If you want to get rid of unwanted swelling and inflammation, immediately after dental implants, then nothing can be the best than homemade therapy, other than using ice packs. You should keep the ice packs just over the swollen art directly, and you can even try out this therapy multiple times in a day and will get relief instantly.
  8. Taking painkillers: If the implanted area has swollen up, and it is paining badly, then you should try useful painkillers, but the medicines should be prescribed by your dentist. But do not take these medicines on a frequent basis rather take them only when the pain is severe.

I have jaw joint opening problem. When I open my mouth fully (ubhasi) my right cheek jaw joint is shutdown and then I fingering to adject the joint to proper fit. What can I do? Please give me suggestion or treatment to remove this problems Thank you

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Quit habits strictly. Seems like you have oral submucous fibrosis (osmf). Kindly consult an oral & maxillo facial surgeon in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need conservative or surgical management for mouth opening depending upon the stage of osmf. Advise full mouth opening, ballooning exercise & side to side movement of the jaw. Wrap 25 to 30 ice-cream sticks, make a bundle, put it between upper & lower front teeth for 15 minutes thrice a day increase 1 sticks each day.

Dental Care Tips for Diabetes Patients

BDS
Dentist, Faridabad
Dental Care Tips for Diabetes Patients

Diabetes is a chronic, systemic disease and affects all parts of the body. While its effect on the nerves, eyes, kidneys, and skin is more common, their oral effects are less known. However, diabetes will vouch how they lost tooth and have dry mouth after their sugars went out of control.

  1. Oral Symptoms in Diabetics: There is a strong correlation between oral health and poorly controlled blood sugars. Some of the common oral indications of diabetes are as follows.
  2. Dry Mouth: There is less amount of saliva, which brings with it a whole lot of symptoms including soreness of the mucosa, ulcers, increased chances of infection, gum inflammation and tooth decay.
  3. Thrush: The saliva has higher sugar levels and attracts fungus (Candida in particular) which thrives in this dry, sugary environment. This produces a burning sensation in the mouth.
  4. Periodontal Disease: The gums get severely infected with gingival recession, where the gum line recedes exposing more of the tooth (tooth length seems to have increased). There is “pocket” formation, or space between the tooth and the gum which hosts a variety of bacteria. The periodontal ligament loses its strength to hold the tooth in place, and thereby teeth become mobile. If not worked upon in time, there could be multiple teeth lost.

As much as it sounds alarming, it is not. There are easy, simple ways to manage these. In fact, good overall management of diabetes will ensure the oral symptoms are also maintained under control. Following are some things to do which will help in managing diabetes in general and the oral symptoms in particular:

As soon as diabetes is diagnosed, visit a dentist to take stock of the oral health condition. Any identified problem should be treated to avoid progression.

  1. Keep a close watch to ensure blood sugar remains as close to normal as possible.

  2. Switch to a toothbrush with soft or extra-soft bristles. This will help reduce the pressure on the gums and thereby prevent gum bleeding

  3. After every meal, remember to brush the teeth.

  4. Flossing at least once a day will help remove food deposits between the teeth. Alternately, use interdental brushes.

  5. Rinse at least twice daily using an antiseptic mouthwash.

  6. Denture-wearers should always clean them daily and never go to sleep with the denture in the mouth.

  7. Smoking with diabetics is a strict no-no, work on quitting at the earliest.

  8. Visit a dentist every 3 months to ensure oral issues are identified at the earliest and treatment done with minimal intervention.

  9. Any dental procedure should be done only when sugar levels are under control.

These will ensure not just oral health but also overall control of diabetes.

Hello, Bleeding from gums and bad breath could be because of deposits on your teeth and food lodged in between your teeth. You need to visit the dentist and get a deep scaling and polishing done. Brush twice a day. Maintain proper brushing technique. Rinse after every meal. Floss regularly.

I am 50 years age andam having sensitivity in my left side upper part teeth I am using thermoseal tooth paste from last 6 months but not working what shall I do.

MDS
Dentist, Lucknow
Dear, if u are using thermoseal since 6 months and it is not giving you any relief then there are little chances of root exposure due to gum disease but other problems like caries or attrition wasting of tooth can be possibilities. U should now get a professional examination done by a dentist for the management of your problem. Thanks n healing regards.

I am 20 years old and my tongue has always have red spot that's reason I can not eat chili.please suggest me something for this?

MBBS, cc USG
General Physician, Gurgaon
Hello, Kindly follow advises given below 1.Gently rub a small ice cube over the spot or rinse your mouth with ice-cold water 2.You can also chew on a clove bud (lavang) and direct the juice generated to the area where the ulcer is located 3.To prevent infection, rinse your mouth 4.Honey helps retain moisture and prevent dehydration. It also helps reduce scarring and hastens the process of new tissue growth Dab a little honey onto the mouth ulcer or mix in a little turmeric to make a paste that can be applied on the affected area. 5. Tulsi: Chew a few leaves of tulsi along with some water about three to four times every day. This will help in getting rid of ulcers faster 6.Dry coconut, coconut oil and coconut water are three products of the coconut tree that are very useful in treating mouth ulcers. Drinking tender coconut water helps to cool the body. Applying a little coconut oil directly onto the mouth ulcer or chewing some coconut (fresh or dry) helps reduce pain 7. you could apply a little ghee directly to the ulcerated area, or drink a glass of buttermilk two or three times every day. Consult Physician for further management as you are having these problem for long
