DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)

Mr. Sanjay, Vitamin K, when taken in excess can also cause uncontrolled bleeding. Taking anti-coagulants is no solution for clot formation. The best treatment I think is Homoeopathy which will also include your Psychic, Mental and Physical statuses.

Depression - How It Affects You!

MBBS, MD Psychiatry, DPM Psychological Medicine

Depression - How It Affects You!

Recently most of us were shaken by the death of the well-known television actress, Pratyusha Banerjee. Her sudden death has brought to light the very common yet under-addressed problem - Depression -  that a number of youths are living with.

Most mental and emotional health issues are inconspicuous in nature and, therefore, cause more harm than they otherwise should, most people still live with a number of symptoms of depression without even realizing it or do little to address it. When the depressive symptoms last for more than 2 weeks and affect the individual's personal, social or occupational life, it is known as clinical depression or major depression. There is often a delay in opting for the treatment because of the social taboo associated with depression.

Although cases of depression can vary from an individual to the other, there are signs that one can look out for, to identify a depressed person:

  1. Low mood most of the time of day along with frequent crying spells
  2. Feeling of unworthiness and low self-respect are very common in a depressed person. Due to these feelings, the affected person may become very critical and disapproving about himself or herself.
  3. Lack of enjoyment and loss of interest in a depressed person makes them no longer derive pleasure from things that once gave him or her happiness.
  4. Exhaustion and insomnia are signs that one should look out for in a depressed individual. These are usually due to changes in sleep patterns, from sleeping a lot because of feelings of constant fatigue or due to instances of wakefulness.
  5. From indulging in comfort eating to losing the will to eat, predominantly loss of appetite characterizes a depressed person.
  6. Difficulty in recalling details and tendency to over generalize as also problem-solving issues can point to the presence of depression
  7. Unexplained bodily pains and aches are another characteristics of the condition.

What are the different types of depression?

Regarding the different forms of this mental health issue, it comes in several forms along with their distinct symptoms, effects, and causes. These are:

  1. Major depression
  2. Dysthymia
  3. Recurrent depressive disorder
  4. Seasonal affective disorder
  5. Bipolar disorder

How can it affect your life?

More than 90% people who commit suicide suffer from some form of psychiatric illness and depression is the most common reason. The despair that usually accompanies depression makes the thought of taking one's life as the only means available to escape the pain. In addition to suicidal thoughts, it can also affect one's functioning in day to day life if help is not sought in time.

Depression is as curable as any other illness. Both medical management and psychotherapy are helpful in treatment. Type of treatment depends on patient's condition, the severity of illness as well as availability. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Psychiatrist.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Can a mantra or sound be used as a medicine?

The answer is yes. The difference between a Mantra and a sound is that Mantra sound is an energized sound with medicinal values. There are many aspects of Mantra as a sound:

The type of sound matters. It is well?known that chanting of vowel sounds produces interleukin?2 in the body, which has the same action as that of aspirin and works like a natural painkiller. Chanting of nasal consonants produces delta activity in the EEG and has similar action like tranquilizers. Chanting of other consonants has different actions in the body. For example, chanting of LUM reduces fear, VUM reduces attachments, RUM reduces doubt, YUM increases love, HUM increases truthfulness and AUM non?judgmental activities.
Mantra sounds can be vibratory or non?vibratory. Vibratory sounds use nasal consonants and vibrate bones beginning from mandible, spine, and the automatic plexus lying along the spine. Chanting of nasal consonants leads to a parasympathetic state.
Chanting of mantra is associated with reduced respiratory rate, which leads to parasympathetic state of the body. Ideally, the respiratory rate should be reduced to 4 per minute and then continue it for next 20 minutes i.e. 80 breaths in 20 minutes. This can be done by chanting, for example, the whole Gayatri mantra in one respiratory cycle.
How one chants also matters. The yogic way of chanting is when the mind is in mantra or the chanting. This leads to deeper relaxation.
Understanding the meaning of the Mantra you chant also matters. If you do understand the meaning, the chanting benefits will be more. Foreigners do not understand the meaning of Indian Mantras but yet they get benefits. But if they chant with understanding the meaning of the Mantra, the health benefits will be more.
Chanting a mantra with its meaning in the mind invokes the power of intention. It?s like getting connected to any search engine on the internet and typing your query. Your consciousness in the body is the internet and the intention the search button.
Chanting a mantra with its meaning in the mind also results in emotions and expressions, which have an added advantage.
Overtone chanting has additional benefits. The new sound heals not only those who are chanting but also those who are listening and bystanders.
Group chanting is more powerful. If 1% population chants together, rest 99% also gets the benefits.
One can also do distance healing by chanting at a far distance. The only way one can explain this is by understanding consciousness as an internet cum social site model. Each one of us has our page in the internet (soul) as well as a page in the cloud internet (spirit). All our pages are connected with every person in this earth through the cloud internet. People can chant at a distance and their audio file with intent automatically gets posted on their soul internet and the cloud internet. The person for whom we pray by chanting gets the benefit whenever he is connected to the cloud internet.
During chanting, the mind may be distracted. Continuously chanting of Mantra for 12 seconds means concentration, 1212 seconds is contemplation and 144144 seconds is meditation. So by concentrating on the object of concentration, the mantra, one can avoid diversion of the mind.
The intensity or the loudness of the chanting sound also matters. Higher the loudness, less will be the effects. Japa meditation involves two hours of Mantra chanting to get the benefit. In a non Japa meditation, these benefits can be acquired in 20 minutes. Thoughtless chanting is more powerful than verbal Mantra chanting. Vipasana is chanting without Mantra where you are just aware of the breath and one has to do this type of meditation for hours together to get the benefit.
During Chautha or Teravi (mourning period), Mantras or prayers are chanted for one hour. This helps relax the mind, shifts one from sympathetic to parasympathetic mode. In the initial 15 minutes, there is sympathetic overactivity and the person is restless. As the time passes, parasympathetic state takes over and by the time one hour is over, parasympathetic state is at its full blown activity and at that time getting connected to cloud internet is easier.

Only those who are connected to the dead person and want to get distressed attend the full one hour of Chautha ceremony. These people have empathy for the deceased person. Those who wish to express sympathy, mostly show up before or after the Chautha ceremony to complete their formality.

In Chautha, we say that Bhagwan Uski Aatma Ko Shanti De. God will forgive him only if the soul is destressed, which can happen only if there are some non?fulfilled desires and these desires will always be linked to a particular person. Therefore, only those who have guilt will feel that the deceased person?s soul is not at rest.

In a Chautha ceremony, one can only remove this guilt in the parasympathetic phase towards the end of the Chautha ritual and seeks forgive and forgiveness.
In different religions, this has different implications. In Hinduism, we only attend Chautha of whom we know but in Islam people attend the mourning ceremony of people whom they not even know. They believe in mass prayers and pray for the soul of the deceased person. In Islam this mass prayer message gets written on the cloud internet and has mass effect in the community.

In Islam, a person usually says Mein khuda se tumhare liye dua mangunga. It is possible for them as they offer Namaz five times in a day and when they ask for Dua for someone they put the intent in the cloud internet which can be retrieved by others.

In Christians, it is different. The dying patients or the relatives ask the doctors and others to pray with them and not only for them.

Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

Excitement in Marriage - How Can You Revive It?

Excitement in Marriage - How Can You Revive It?

Marriages in our country usually last a lifetimeand and require effort from both parties involved to make them work. Often, marriages end because of boredom, as the partners begin to believe that the spark is gone. But there are many ways couples can perk up their marriage.

While it is true that many people are short on precious time in today’s day and age, what is also true is that a marriage is well worth some prioritisation.

Leaving dirty dishes in the sink for a little while longer does make good sense, if it means that the time is well-used to bond with one’s significant other. Leisure time spent between couples is crucial for the success of a marriage. Many couples do not make it a habit of listening to each other and this really does work to their detriment. Paying close attention to what the other one says and providing a response may not need a lot of effort but the dividends are rich in the form of the partner feeling good.

Intimacy is a valued feeling of being wanted and it has a big part to play in the success of a marriage. Over the long term, many couples do not make the required effort and the overall quality of their bond is reduced, as a result. While reinitiating contact may be as simple as holding the other’s hand, many people do not do this as they feel their partner should be the one to do so. Intimacy does not only equate to sexual intimacy, but can even simply be looking into one’s partners eyes with love.

Laughter is said to be the best medicine, and this happens to be true in the case of a marriage, as well. It has been found that couples who laugh about their past experiences are happier and get along a lot more amicably than those who do not. Recalling together where the couple first met and started seeing each other also has a positive impact as it makes both partners feel valued and thankful about what they have.

Below, are tips that don’t require much—if any—money, time or even hard work!

Engage in a new activity with your partner. Doing novel activities with your partner enables you to re-experience the original emotional state at the beginning of your marriage. In other words, trying something new sparks excitement, producing passion. You can do anything from deep-sea fishing to salsa dancing to hiking a mountain to eating at a different restaurant.

Add the element of mystery or surprise. Both mystery and surprise also mimic the emotional state of a new romance. But it doesn’t mean whisking your wife away to the Mediterranean or surprising your husband with expensive dinners. Here, little gestures also go a long way. Examples include, surprising your wife at work and whisking her away for lunch, or sending a greeting card in the mail.

Do something that kicks up your adrenaline and arousal. Young marriages start out with an adrenaline rush. Your heart races, you get giddy, you’re alert, awake and excited. Arousal-generating activities can include exercising, going on a vigorous hike, and even watching a scary movie. So it’s almost like fooling your brain that the arousal produced to this scary movie (or any other arousing activity) is really due to your marriage, and this helps to perk up the passion.

Take a mini-vacation — just the two of you. Get out of the house for at least one night and two days, somewhere that interests both of you and creates new memories together. You don’t have to go far from home or spend a lot of money. The key is to spend quality time together away from home. Studies show that for women, in particular, getting away is important. They feel more passionate when they’re away from the pressures of their lives. At home, women have a tough time compartmentalizing things. They’re thinking about the laundry, lunch, paying the bills, cleaning the house, and checking things off their mental to-do list.

Touch more often. Touch produces arousal, comfort and support both physiologically and psychologically, and it doesn’t have to be much of a touch. Holding hands on a walk, making sure you give a hug or kiss or embrace daily reminds you that you’re physiologically bonded. When reigniting your relationship, the key is to shake things up consistently. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a psychiatrist. Good luck!

Control Blood Pressure With Ayurveda

Hypertension is a condition where the blood has to exert extra pressure to flow through the blood vessels. While there is a genetic component to it, the more strong contributing factors are modified lifestyle and dietary changes. There are also a lot of environmental changes that have contributed to this new epidemic. While earlier people in their 50s and 60s would be diagnosed with hypertension, now there are people in 30s and 40s taking hypertension pills. Excess fat accumulation is the major cause of hypertension in younger patients.

There begins the complexity of the issue. Hypertension which requires medications to control it, they lead to side effects and bring in a host of other diseases like diabetes, and obesity which in turn bring in a whole lot of complications. A more easy way to manage would be to prevent and of course, after onset, look at how naturally it can be managed.

Ayurveda has numerous substances that have been proven to have beneficial effects in controlling blood pressure over the past 1000s of years.

  1. Celery or ajwain helps blood vessels to dilate and reduces concentration of stress hormones in the blood.
  2. Ashwagandha has a wide range of actions and improves the body's ability to handle physical and mental stress. This in turn improves blood pressure, obesity, and depression.
  3. Citrus fruits contain Vitamin C which prevents fragility of the capillaries (thinner blood vessels).
  4. Cow's urine prevents hardening of blood vessels and is of curative value in those who have blood pressure due to hardening of blood vessels.
  5. Triphala which is a combination of amla, haritaki, and bibhitaki helps reduce inflammation that leads to blood pressure, thereby helping to control it.
  6. Jatamansi - By helping the free radical damage on the arteries, it protects the arteries and prevents cholesterol accumulation. It also is a very well-proven stress reliever and has additional benefits on hypertension.
  7. Arjuna - By helping the metabolism of the bad cholesterol in the liver, this protects the inner lining of the heart and thereby helps control hypertension.
  8. Calcium and potassium containing substances help remove sodium and thereby improve blood pressure.
  9. Natural herbs like Brahmi, Sarpagandha, Shankhpushpi, and Chandana are effective Ayurvedic cure and treatment for hypertension.
  10. Rasayana treatment from ayurveda is having excellent results, however everyone requires unique rasayan as per their body types.
  11. Watermelon helps in dilation of the blood vessels.
  12. Aloe gel, barberry, calamus, valerian, skullcap, gotu kola cayenne, myrrh, motherwort, hawthorn and jatamansi have all been shown to help manage hypertension over thousands of years.
  13. A glass of warm milk mixed with saraswat powder is also helpful for patients with high blood pressure.

These are natural remedies which were a part of diet since times immemorial. Including them in the diet, reducing processed foods, regular exercise, avoiding alcohol and smoking can be some natural ways to prevent and if required control hypertension. Stress is here to stay, but can definitely be managed with a little conscious effort.

My wife suffering PAH. It has been diagnosed on last week. But she is not accept the reality and not willing to take ...
Pulmonary hypertension (PAH) is high blood pressure in the arteries to your lungs. It is a serious condition. If you have it, the blood vessels that carry blood from your heart to your lungs become hard and narrow. Your heart has to work harder to pump the blood through. Over time, your heart weakens and cannot do its job and you can develop heart failure. Symptoms of PH include Shortness of breath during routine activity, such as climbing two flights of stairs Tiredness Chest pain A racing heartbeat Pain on the upper right side of the abdomen Decreased appetite As PH worsens, you may find it hard to do any physical activities. There are two main kinds of PH. One runs in families or appears for no known reason. The other kind is related to another condition, usually heart or lung disease. There is no cure for familial PH. Treatments can control symptoms. They involve treating the heart or lung disease, medicines, oxygen, and sometimes lung transplantation. So I will advise you to get her evaluated to check for heart and lung diseases and if you find some and get her treated for that as soon as possible.

Any bleeding more than spotting is considered as menses and as the sex took place 5 days ago, it can not be implantation bleeding of pregnancy. You r not pregnant for sure. Your menses came like this because of hormonal changes or stress.
