Macular edema secondary to uveitis has a standardised escalating protocol...ur doctor will be following it. Decrease vision may be due to long standing edema and associated damage, or macular injury n scarring during uveitis if it was posterior uveitis.

I am 30 years old female. I am having constant blurry vision on my right eye since 2 weeks. Blurriness is increasing day by day. I saw an eye doctor. He tested me for glaucoma and result was negative. He did slit lamp test also and said retina and iris seems to be ok. I dont have any red eyes. No eye pain. Just right eye has blurred vision which is constant. I have a herpes viral infection on my lips for the past 5 months which is not getting cured. Could it be related to my eyes blurred vision. Your problem is photophobia, or light sensitivity, and it is an intolerance of light. Sources such as sunlight, fluorescent light and incandescent light all can cause discomfort headaches also may accompany light sensitivity. Light-sensitive people sometimes are bothered only by bright light. In extreme cases, however, any light can be irritating. Photophobia is not an eye disease, but a symptom of many conditions such as infection or inflammation that can irritate the eyes causes 1. People with a lighter eye color may experience more light sensitivity in environments such as bright sunlight, because darker-colored eyes contain more pigment to protect against harsh lighting. 2. Certain eye problemss like corneal abrasion, uveitis and a central nervous system disorder such as meningitis can cause photophobia. 3. Light sensitivity also is associated with a detached retina, contact lens irritations, sunburn and refractive surgery. 4. Photophobia often accompanies albinism (lack of eye pigment), total color deficiency (seeing only in shades of gray), botulism, rabies, mercury poisoning, conjunctivitis, keratitis and iritis. 5. Certain rare diseases, such as the genetic disorder keratosis follicularis spinulosa decalvans (kfsd), are reported to cause photophobia. 6. Some medications may cause light sensitivity as a side effect, including belladonna, furosemide, quinine, tetracycline and doxycycline. Treatment 1. The best treatment for light sensitivity is to treat the underlying cause as described above. Once the triggering factor is treated, photophobia disappears in many cases. 2. If you are taking a medication that causes light sensitivity, talk to your doctor about discontinuing or replacing the drug. 3. If you're naturally sensitive to light, avoid bright sunlight and other harsh lighting sources. Wear wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses with ultraviolet (uv) protection. 4. Photochromic lenses are another solution for mild sun sensitivity. These lenses darken automatically outdoors and block 100 percent of the sun's uv rays. 5. For bright sunlight, consider polarized sunglasses. These sun lenses provide extra protection against glare-causing reflections of light from water, sand, snow, concrete roadways and other reflective surfaces. 6. In an extreme case, you may consider wearing prosthetic contact lenses that are specially colored to look like your own eyes. Prosthetic contact lenses can reduce the amount of light that enters theeye and make your eyes more comfortable.

My cousin reads book for half an hour his eyes turns to reddish color and sleeps. What is his problem? why he is straining like that?

FICO, Specialist in Cataract,Cornea and refractive surgeries , MD - Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Srinagar
He should undergo refraction if there is some refractive error, even if you have minimal refractive error kindly use spectacles. A common problem when working on a screen for long or near work periods is 'dry eye'. This is because concentrated work tends to reduce the blink reflex that replenishes the tears, and the dry atmosphere and lack of fresh air adds to the problem of insufficent tears. Allowing the cornea to become dry can cause irritation and blurred and variable vision. Use some lubricating eye drops like refresh tears ,use them at least 4 times a day at least. You do need to look at every aspect of your work environment also. Use proper lighting , dont work in dim conditions Should use table and chair for studying Your table should be of proper height so that you dont have to bend too much. Take rest after 30 mins for few mins ,put the tear drops and work again. Do blink intermittently.

To some extent, redness in eye on awakening g is normal. For the burning sensation you can use any of lubricating eye drops available. I strongly recommend u stop tying hanky over ur eye...It may cause infection or injury to the eye. It would also do u good to have a routine eye examination.

Eyes appear red because the vessels at the surface of the white portion of the eye (sclera) become swollen. Vessels may swell due to: • Eye dryness • Too much sun exposure • Dust or other particles in the eye • Allergies • Infection • Injury Eye infections or inflammation can cause redness as well as possible itching, discharge, pain, or vision problems. These may be due to: • Blepharitis: Swelling along the edge of the eyelid. • Conjunctivitis: Swelling or infection of the clear tissue that lines the eyelids and covers the surface of the eye (the conjunctiva). This is often referred to as "pink eye." • Corneal ulcers: Sores on the cornea most often caused by a serious bacterial or viral infection. • Uveitis: Inflammation of the uvea, which includes the iris, ciliary body, and choroid. The cause is most often not known. It may be related to an autoimmune disorder, infection, or exposure to toxins. The type of uveitis that causes the worst red eye is called iritis, in which only the iris is inflamed. Other potential causes of eye redness include: • Colds or allergies . • Acute glaucoma: A sudden increase in eye pressure that is extremely painful and causes serious visual problems. This is a medical emergency. The more common form of glaucoma is chronic and gradual. • Corneal scratches: Injuries caused by sand, dust, or overuse of contact lenses. Sometimes, a bright red spot, called a subconjunctival hemorrhage, will appear on the white of the eye. This often happens after straining or coughing, which causes a broken blood vessel on the surface of the eye. Most often, there is no pain and your vision is normal. It is almost never a serious problem. Because the blood leaks into the conjunctiva, which is clear, you cannot wipe or rinse the blood away. Like a bruise, the red spot will go away within a week or two. So,visit a local eyespecialist. The diagnosis of your problem in eyes can only be made by local examination of eyes

Hello lasik is very good option to get rid of glasses doctor will perform few tests (schirmer test, pentacam and fundus examination) and if all tests are normal then you can go for lasik surgery without fear. Success rate of lasik is over 96%. Side effects may vary from minimal like mild dryness, dalk, haloes, glare to severe like infection (very rare).

Hello, Thanks for the query. The lymph node enlargement may have happened due to ear as well as pharyngeal infection. So along with cold if you also have throat soreness and difficulty in swallowing and ear pain, you may need a course of antibiotics. Plus also do warm water and salt gargling. Thanks.

I have an eye sight, I can't see the long distance please help me, which type solution should I take.
For your sight, simplest solution is to use spectacles. Another alternative is to use contact lenses (needs everyday insertion & removal before sleep at night). Long term, permanent solution includes getting laser vision correction or lasik. Depending on your profession, suitability, life style & affordability, you can go for one of the options.
