The Pyramid Diet Plan

The pyramid diet was conceptualised in 1992 and it emphasises the best amount of servings to be consumed daily from the basic food groups (dairy, fruits and vegetables, grains, beans and legumes, meat, oils and fats).

The pyramid is divided into four levels. The very first level is comprised of grains, beans and legumes; the level above it is made up of fruits and vegetable; the third level from the top is composed of meat and dairy products and the very last one on top contains fats, sugars and oils.

The diet aims to divide the food groups in the above mentioned fashion to make you understand just how much to consume from each food group. Here is a breakdown of servings from each food group:

  • Grains- 5 to 7 servings
  • Fruits and vegetables- 2 servings of each
  • Milk and dairy- 3 servings of which 1/2 serving should be dairy products
  • Oils, sugar and fats- 6 teaspoons for oils and minimal servings for fats and sugars

This seems relatively easy to follow, but most people do not understand portion control. The amount or serving of food is called portion control and it is important if you want your diet to work. Here is a guideline that you can follow:

  1. When you are consuming one serving of grains in one sitting, you can choose to eat one cup of cereals or one slice of whole-wheat bread.
  2. When you are eating vegetable or fruits with your breakfast or lunch, choose one and a half cup of chopped vegetables, or one piece of orange, banana or apple.
  3. If you are drinking milk, then one cup of milk in one serving. And, if you are eating meat, choose one ounce of cooked fish or chicken.
  4. Lastly, do not go beyond one teaspoon of vegetable oil and try to keep your sugar intake to the minimum throughout the day.

The pyramid is an excellent guide to lose some weight. You just need some concentration and a ton of commitment to stick to the guide. Along with the diet, don't forget to get some exercise. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dietitian-nutritionist.

Hello, you can take homoeopathic medicines 1.Kali Brom 30 ( 4 drops in little water) every morning empty stomach only one dose in a day for a week 2. Berberis Aquifolium Q ( 10 drops in little water) thrice a day for a week and revert Follow the tips: *clean your skin gently with a mild face wash removing all dirt or make-up. Wash many times a day with plain water. *Get an adequate amount of sleep. *Avoid touching your face with your hands as this germs to your facial skin, making it to breakouts. *Ensure that you drink10-12 glasses of water daily. *Avoid fried and spicy food. *Include fruits, raw vegetables and fresh vegetable juices in your diet. *Avoid harsh skin products.

I am 41 years old and having history of diabetic type-2 for past 6 years. Every year I ma doing heart check up and a per doctors it is ok. Is it enough to check up once in every year/ but some 1 ir 2 times I felt little pain in left side for few seconds and goes away. Why? But no other symptoms like sweating and all. Is it a cardiac problem?

Hello Heart check up for Diabetic patients is very important. You should carry out heart check up annually. In your case if you feel chest pain and ECG shows normal findings; discuss with your doctor about carrying out treadmill test or exercise tolerance test to know how much blood flow reaches to your heart. Few diet tips - Not to eat fried food items and Can eat All green vegetables, moong , chana , Dal , rice etc And to apply ghee over chappati and don't apply oil over chappati And to drink milk mixed with turmeric powder twice a day And If possible eat eggs on alternate days And If possible in breakfast eat atleast one bajra ka rotla And Eat seasonal fruit

Hello, firstly try to reduce your weight by a diet plan and exercise. You can try yoga/any other for of exercise. Try cutting out carbohydrates and saturated fat ie reduce the amount of rice consumption by adding wheat. Eat less amount of red meat if you are a non veg. Fish is very healthy. Steamed, baked items are healthy. If hungry in between take a bowl of salad or fruits. Cut down on sweets. Get your cbp and thyroid profile done, so also your lipid profile. Consult me after investigations. Good day!

I am suffering from kidney stones what is the medication, precautions to be taken and what diet to be followed.
You should follow these very important and simple things to prevent stone formation & to get sure treatment of kidney stones: 1. First take a lot of fluid daily. The more you drink water and fluid, the less amount of deposit accumulate in kidney. So you have to make your kidneys healthy just only by drinking 2-3 liters (10-12 glasses) of water. 2. Stones are mainly formed of calcium and oxalate. So take very low quantity of milk, cheese, cream and dairy products. 3. Do not take strawberry, plum, spinach and tomatoes. These fruits and vegetables are rich in oxalate. So avoid them to prevent from kidney stones. 3. Stop taking supplementary vitamin d and calcium medication. 4. Avoid animal protein diet- eggs, red meat, fish in diet. 5. Take less amount of salt, pickle and western foods. They have high amount of sodium. So avoid it. 6. Urinary infection are also one of the cause of stone. So take proper antibiotic treatment of urinary infection on time. Even when you feelburning sensation or pain during urination, don't avoid it. Take medication as soon as possible. I hope you follow them in your life andstay healthy. 7. You can take gokshur tablets of himalaya for 3 months. It definitely get relief from kidney stones.

Bhujang Asana -- Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily.

Is your hair loss accompanied with greying of hair and have they become very thin? your hair needs a very high protein well-rounded diet. Hair and nails are the last organs to get nutrition in the body, hence only if all the organs get sufficient nutrition and proteins, only then the remaining nutrition would be used for hairs. A strand of hair is composed of mostly protein, which means your hair needs protein to grow. Hence a therapeutic diet prescribed by a registered dietitian can help a lot in hair growth. Besides diet excessive stress, current/past dandruff and some medication are conclusively known to retard hair growth and promote hair loss. - cut down on the use of hair spray, hair gels, and styling creams that contain harsh chemical ingredients, which can dry out the scalp and cause the formation of flakes. Also harsh treatments such as perms, colours, relaxers etc take a toll on the health of your hair. - avoid changing your shampoo and conditioner constantly.   1. Parents aren’t always right: For a pump operator, a job with the railways was a great achievement, but for Dhoni, it wasn’t enough. Imagine if he hadn’t followed his heart and had stuck to merely collecting tickets. Your parents always have your best interests at heart, but only you know what you really want to do. So, if you’re prepared to work hard, take a risk and follow your dreams.
  2. Never stop learning: Though Dhoni was an aggressive batsman from the beginning, he never stopped learning. His trademark helicopter shot was actually one he learnt from a fellow batsman. Don’t let your ego convince you that you have nothing more left to learn. At every stage of life, there’s always someone who knows a little more.
  3. Accept failure: Though he was the best cricketer in school, when Dhoni didn’t make the Under 19 team, he threw a party. Why? He realised he would have to work even harder to achieve his goal and being depressed wouldn’t help anyone. When something doesn’t work out your way, don’t let it get you down. Instead, understand what went wrong and learn from it.
  4. Work hard: Nothing good comes easy. Dhoni knew that and never shied away from a practise sessions even after a full day’s work. Even as a child, he finished his exams early so that he could practise with his club. Balance practicalities with passion and put your heart and soul into making your dreams come true.
  5. Get out of your comfort zone: Dhoni could have settled for a government job if he wanted a comfortable life. After all, it paid well and he had job security for life. However, he took a risk and decided to follow his passion. If you really want to achieve something extraordinary, don’t get trapped by your comfort zone.
  6. Have a hobby: Though cricket was Dhoni’s passion, he didn’t let it take over his life. When his professional life troubled him, Dhoni retreated into his garage to work on his bike or just took one out for a spin. This is Dhoni’s way on unwinding. What’s your way of unwinding? Hi dear, it's a common problem if you r having pyorrhoea or lots of calculus deposits in teeth, it could be if you r having stomach infection or throat infection (if not there then strongly go for teeth cleaning )do brushing after breakfast and after dinner. Brush with up and down moves to remove any stuck food deposits.

Losing weight suddenly will only cause increase in wt later. You have to make effort to lose wt gradually over a period of time. This reduction will be more permanent. *Take protein rich food --- seeds, pulses, nuts, Also fruits, vegetables, greens and reduce cereals. *Green tea is also good. *Take lemon juice and honey in warm water in the early morning, empty stomach. *Avoid sweets, fried foods, processed food and junk food. A * Maintain food timings * Don’t miss breakfast. *Avoid heavy dinners and late night meals. *Avoid stimulants, aerated drinks sweetish juices, etc. And maintain good food habits. * Drink lots of water and keep hydrated. Avoid sugary soft drinks * Have adequate, timely, good night sleep *Have vigorous physical exercise to improve absorption and blood circulation. Healthy balanced diet along with healthy life style and proper rest are the keys of good health. Start eating small frequent energy dense meals instead of 3 large meal. Small meals are easy to digest and keep digestive system running. You can eat small portion of any thing in difference of 2-3 hours like 1 small stuffed paranthas with curd\ whole eggs\spoon full of desi ghee in dal or with roti, paneer, nuts, sprouts, pulses, chicken etc have shakes of fruits with added nuts drink atleast 8-10 glasses of water. Eat all seasonal fruits and vegetables. Quit smoking or drinking if any Manage stress do some moderate intensity exercises for 30 minutes daily. Have positive body image appreciate your self Take sound sleep of 7-9 hour keep your self motivated as it not going to happen overnight. Consult me online for better results.
