Sometimes when I'm sleeping, if I want to wake up, I feel like I don't have control over my body and I can't move even my hands and legs like I'm paralyzed. This is happening frequently. This is called as "sleep paralysis". It usually occurs during REM sleep and is a type of sleep-wake disorder, when your brain is awakened from form sleep but body is not yet. So u tend to have a feeling of inability to move. Usually if it occurs once in a while it is physiological. But if it occurs more often then I would suggest you go for a Sleep study and complete evaluation with EEG

My cousin 25/ M having paralysis of both left sided limb due to haemorrhagic infarct 2 years back. How much time it will take to regain normal activity of both limb any medicine which can cure.

The time to recovery varies, however, improvement continues for upto two years. There is no medicine, good physiotherapy would help.

Continuous electric feeling through my fore feet and I experience a sharp contraction kind of a feeling on my lower back when I stand for a while. I have been experiencing this from past Friday. There is no back pain but that electric feeling is staying forever till now. I have been suggested to use gabapentin but it was of no use I see no difference in the behavior please suggest. My leg movement is normal but that electric feel is heavy.

Hi Sir I am 25 years old male I was feeling easily tired and dizziness and numbness in my feet, I went for medical examination the reports revealed I was suffering with thyroid Total T3= 1.68 total t4= 7.50 Tsh=6.09 I was suggest to take thyrox 25 mg I ha ve taken the medicine since last two month and after test my tsh was 27.05 I was suggested to take thyronorm 75 still after a month I don't see any improvement my depression levels are becoming worse getting easily angry feeling tired and drowsy kindly help me.

Mr. lybrate-user, If your latest TSH level is 27.07 mU/L, then the current dosage of thyroxine is not adequate. It has to be increased. Plus you will have to take a restricted diet, that matches your caloric needs based on ideal body weight and extent of daily physical activity. Plus please do a blood glucose (fasting, PP) check up and come back with the results. Thanks.

Migraine - Know The Causes and Symptoms!

Migraine is a severe form of headache wherein, the excruciating pain is accompanied by an extreme sensitivity to sound and light; you also experience nausea. The headaches usually affect either side of the head and are throbbing in nature. Hot flashes, numbness of limbs and blind spots in the eye; these are often considered as warnings. In certain cases, migraines can cause blackouts that can range from a few seconds to a few minutes.

Migraine occurs in four stages:

  1. Pro-drome (symptom indicative of an onset of an illness)
  2. Aura (visual auras including blurred vision)
  3. Headache
  4. Post-drome (the residual effects of migraine characterized by fatigue and lethargy)

But the occurrence of these stages varies across individuals. The causes of migraines aren’t specifically understood. It may be due to the interaction of the brain stem with the trigeminal nerve, which is an important pain pathway of the brain. Imbalances in hormonal levels or in the levels of neurotransmitters such as serotonin may also prove to be a causal factor.

Symptoms

Migraine may be triggered due to stress, physical exertion, and excess intake of alcohol or food additives such as MSG (Monosodium Glutamate). Changes in the environment and sleeping patterns may also be probable culprits.

Migraine can be easily distinguished from regular headaches, given the fact that migraines last longer and are rather severe in nature with pain felt in one part of the head. Most people experience the ‘Aura’stage where they have visual flashes right before headache. Nausea, eye pain or sensitivity to light and sound are other factors helpful in distinguishing migraine from other headaches.

Symptoms can occur a while before headache, immediately before headache, during headache and after headache. Although not all migraines are the same.

Typical symptoms include:

  • Moderate to severe pain, usually confined to one side of the head during an attack, but can occur on either side of the head
  • The pain is usually a severe, throbbing, pulsing pain
  • Increasing pain during physical activity
  • Inability to perform regular activities due to pain
  • Feeling sick and physically being sick
  • Increased sensitivity to light and sound, relieved by lying quietly in a darkened room
  • Some people experience other symptoms such as sweating, temperature changes, tummy ache and diarrhea.

Complications in migraine may include:

  1. Chronic migraine which last up to 15 days or more
  2. Status Migrainosus where the attacks last for over 3 days
  3. Migrainous infarction where the aura lasts longer than it should, cutting blood supply to the brain.

It is because of nerve deficit, to rule out do nerve study and clear the problem and rule out if it is of vascular lesions if any for your numbness and also it can be of cervical spondylolisthesis the reason for your numbness of asympthommatic cause and do have examined by neuro musculoskeletal physiotherapist or neuro physician or orthopaedician asap.

Unless you make yourself relax you can't get relieved from anxiety. Make yourself busy in some kind of work activity. Be joyful and enjoy life. Don't think i'm patient and what will happen now. Follow some stress reliving yoga. And you will be alright.

Hello lybrate-user, headache near the eye brows is most commonly due to some or the other vision problems. It will be better if you get your vision checked. In case you have spectacles and you are not wearing them regularly, you are bound to get such headaches.

Hello, Want to help you, but tell me more symptoms and details of yourproblem for proper diagnosis and thus, proper treatment for nerve pain. For building body muscle: The food what and how you eat, makes the difference! For increasing your weight, concentrate on these points which helps in right way without harming your body if you don’t have any medical condition. - Consume more healthy fats. Foods containing healthy fats are full of nutrients and also high in calories, making them a great option for weight gain. Foods containing plant fats should be your first option - this includes items such as nuts, seeds, peanut butter, avocados and olive oil. Foods containing healthy animals fats include lean meats and full fat dairy products - although if you have high cholesterol, you should probably stick to low-fat options. -Eat more protein. Good sources of protein include lean meat, fish and poultry, in addition to eggs, whole grains, dairy products and legumes. -Drink more calories. Try drinking a large glass of orange juice in the mornings (along with your normal breakfast). Drink a glass or two of full-cream milk throughout the day.Protein shakes will help you to gain muscle mass, particularly if you're working out. -Have 6 small and frequent meals in a day. -Gain muscle mass. It's a good idea to continue to exercise while you attempt to gain weight the healthy way. Strength training includes working with weights and performing exercises such as squats, deadlifts, bench presses, bicep curls, crunches, chin-ups and leg curls. Just keep in mind that the more you exercise, the more calories you will need to consume to replace those you lost while working out. This is where protein shakes and bars really come in handy. -Quit smoking. As it suppresses the appetite. -Stay healthy. The most important thing through the entire weight gain process is to stay healthy - eating a balanced diet and continuing to exercise throughout. -Take enough of rest and sleep for rejuvenation of the cells and tissues. -Think Positive which will help you in achieving your target of gaining weight. -Avoid taking unnecessary stress/ tension. Medication: Take Schwabe’s Alfaalfa Tonic and Five Phos., both thrice daily ½ an hour before meals for 1month.

Carpal tunnel is common in females. Its not paralysis. There is a nerve in wrist which gets compressed and leads to carpal tunnel syndrome. Please get an EMG of both upper limbs if your problem is not getting solved. This test will tell us about nerve compression and decision regarding treatment can be taken.
