Sexual response cycles in males

MD-Dermatology, MBBS
Sexologist, Pune
Sexual response cycles in males

Sexual response cycles in males

Sexual Response cycle:

Men and woman, with some sexually arousing stimulus, proceed through orgasm and end with a return of the body to a sexually unstimulated state. This is described in four stages: Excitement, Plateau, Orgasm, and Resolution. There are no sharply defined moments when one stage ends and the next begins. Each phase merges with the next phase.

Excitement

Men: Erection of penis, marked increase in its size, and a rise in its angle. Erection may be triggered by penis itself or by sexually stimulating sight, smell or thought. It occurs in 3 to 8 seconds.

A small penis may double in length while in a large penis lengthening is less marked.

Partial elevation and increase in the size of testes.

Men and Women: Muscle tension rises. Heart rate increases. Blood pressure rises.

Plateau

Men: Full erection of the penis. The increase in size and full elevation of testes. Little secretion from Cowper's glands appears at the Urethral meatus.

Orgasm

If effective sexual stimulation continues in the Plateau phase, a point may be reached where the body suddenly discharges its accumulated sexual tension in a peak of sexual arousal called 'Orgasm'. It is also called as 'climax' or 'coming'. Orgasm is the shortest phase of sexual response usually lasting for only a few seconds during which rhythmic muscular contractions produce intense pleasurable sensation followed by rapid relaxation. Orgasm occurs in both the sexes.

Men:

Orgasm occurs in two distinct stages. In the first stage the Vas deferens, the prostate and Seminal vesicles begin a series of contractions that forces semen into the bulb of the urethra. The man experiences a sensation of 'Ejaculatory inevitability-the feeling of having reached brink of control. At this point ejaculation cannot be stopped. In the second stage of orgasm contraction of urethra and penis combined with contraction in the prostate to cause ejaculation (spurting of semen out of tip of penis). During ejaculation the neck of the urinary bladder is tightly shut to avoid any mixture of semen and urine. The rhythmic contractions of prostate, the perineal muscles and the penis occur initially at 0.8 seconds intervals.

Male orgasm and ejaculation are not one and the same process. Although the two occur simultaneously, orgasm refers to muscular contraction and release of sexual tension, while ejaculation refers to the release of semen. Orgasm without ejaculation is common in the boy before puberty.

Men and women: High myotonia. The whole body may become rigid for some time. Grimace or frown may be seen. Breathing up to 40 per minute. Heartbeat up to 110-180 p.m. blood pressure is raised. Anal sphincter contracts.

Resolution

Men: Man is not able to have multiple orgasms. Immediately after the ejaculation man enters a 'refractory period' during which further orgasm or ejaculation is impossible. Usually the erection subsides quickly. There is great variability in the duration of refractory period. It may last from few minutes to many hours. This period gets longer with each repeated ejaculation. As the man gets older, the refractory period gets longer. The period of return to the unaroused state is called the 'resolution phase'. The anatomical and physiological changes that occurred during excitement and the plateau phase reverse.

Blood is pumped out of the penis and therefore loss of erection. The testes decrease in size and descend into scrotum.

Men and Women: Mutual orgasm of both is not possible. It is better to allow woman to have orgasm prior to man's by manual stimulation of clitoris, or 'woman in top' position. There is no distinction among sexual responses by masturbation, by sexual intercourse or by artificial coitus.

Orgasm is always clitoral in origin. The vaginal orgasm is a myth. Women are capable of responding to the point of orgasm as quickly as males by clitoral stimulation (but not through intercourse).

You should do an exercise. Take a plain paper, draw a big black circle and colour it with black too. Stick that paper on wall and sit in front of that circle at a distance of 1 meter and keep looking at it without blinking your eyes. Do it for 5 min. Repeat this cycle 2- 3 times a day. Keep handkerchief with to wipe out the eyes in between.

Dental Care Tips for Diabetes Patients

Dental Care Tips for Diabetes Patients

Diabetes is a chronic, systemic disease and affects all parts of the body. While its effect on the nerves, eyes, kidneys, and skin is more common, their oral effects are less known. However, diabetes will vouch how they lost tooth and have dry mouth after their sugars went out of control.

  1. Oral Symptoms in Diabetics: There is a strong correlation between oral health and poorly controlled blood sugars. Some of the common oral indications of diabetes are as follows.
  2. Dry Mouth: There is less amount of saliva, which brings with it a whole lot of symptoms including soreness of the mucosa, ulcers, increased chances of infection, gum inflammation and tooth decay.
  3. Thrush: The saliva has higher sugar levels and attracts fungus (Candida in particular) which thrives in this dry, sugary environment. This produces a burning sensation in the mouth.
  4. Periodontal Disease: The gums get severely infected with gingival recession, where the gum line recedes exposing more of the tooth (tooth length seems to have increased). There is “pocket” formation, or space between the tooth and the gum which hosts a variety of bacteria. The periodontal ligament loses its strength to hold the tooth in place, and thereby teeth become mobile. If not worked upon in time, there could be multiple teeth lost.

As much as it sounds alarming, it is not. There are easy, simple ways to manage these. In fact, good overall management of diabetes will ensure the oral symptoms are also maintained under control. Following are some things to do which will help in managing diabetes in general and the oral symptoms in particular:

As soon as diabetes is diagnosed, visit a dentist to take stock of the oral health condition. Any identified problem should be treated to avoid progression.

  1. Keep a close watch to ensure blood sugar remains as close to normal as possible.

  2. Switch to a toothbrush with soft or extra-soft bristles. This will help reduce the pressure on the gums and thereby prevent gum bleeding

  3. After every meal, remember to brush the teeth.

  4. Flossing at least once a day will help remove food deposits between the teeth. Alternately, use interdental brushes.

  5. Rinse at least twice daily using an antiseptic mouthwash.

  6. Denture-wearers should always clean them daily and never go to sleep with the denture in the mouth.

  7. Smoking with diabetics is a strict no-no, work on quitting at the earliest.

  8. Visit a dentist every 3 months to ensure oral issues are identified at the earliest and treatment done with minimal intervention.

  9. Any dental procedure should be done only when sugar levels are under control.

These will ensure not just oral health but also overall control of diabetes.

Twice per week is good. Some of the after- effects of masturbation are: a. The nervous system is affected the most. B. Besides the heart, the digestive system, the urinary system as well as the other systems are adversely affected and consequently the whole body becomes the museum of diseases with profound weakness. C. The eyes become sunken, the cheek bones protrude and there is a black rim round the eyes. D. Continuous headache and backache. E. Dizziness and loss of memory. F. Palpitation of heart on lightest exertion. G. Nervousness. H. Unable to perform any heavy physical or mental work. I. The person dislikes any company and activities and rather likes to sit in seclusion and suffers from weakness. J. All the senses are impaired. K. Vision becomes dim, the tongue begins to stammer and ears tend to become deaf etc. L. Lastly t. B. Or insanity or some other serious disease catch hold of the victim to lead his life to a close. M. Impotency/ erectile dysfunction / premature ejaculation, reduced penis size, hardness etc therefore, young men are advised to consult a qualified and honest homoeopathic practitioner for his expert advice and effective treatment instead of wasting his money with quacks. Further, those young men who are or have been engaged in the regular habits of masturbation should not ignore the necessity to consult the qualified homoeopaths to avoid sexual embarrassment at the time of marriage. My hairs are falling continuously, and feeling some etching on head. Please help me.

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
My hairs are falling continuously, and feeling some etching on head. Please help me.
Hi. Let me tell you about hairfall. In layman's language, hairfall can be divided into 2 types - temporary hairfall and permanent (which is called as 'Hairloss' rather). In temporary hairfall, hair grows back again from the same hair root, but in case of permanent hairloss, may be because of formation of DHT (Di- Hydro -Testosterone) around hair root it gets choked up, subsequently affects the blood supply to the hair and thus hair root is lost forever. (There are different pattern and types of hairloss, because of different reasons like Alopecia Areata, Telogen Effluvium, Scarring Alopecia, Traction Alopecia, etc.) Causes of hairrloss: Many factors are responsible formation of this DHT or male/ female pattern baldness - hereditary, post-illness/ ailment, post-delivery, post- chemotherapy, nutritional deficiencies, hormaonal imbalance, insufficient sleep, sudden loss of weight, stress/ tensions/ excessive anger, use of bore water, any other underlying diseases, etc. Management: Take diet rich in protein like non-veg., eggs, pulses, legumes, sprouts, nuts (sp. walnut and almonds), iron-rich food like green vegetables, also take flaxseeds, green tea, soyabean, fruits, salads, etc. Take proper 6-9hrs of sound sleep. Give up the habit of smoking and excessive alcohol intake. Avoid junk food and any kind of beverages (tea, coffee, aerated drinks, cold drinks, etc.) Avoid canned/ tinned food or food that contains preservatives (eat fresh ones). Avoid use of harsh hair colour, hair treatment like rebonding, straightening, perming, etc. Avoid vigorous exercises or any supplements provided by the gym! Use Rose wood/ any wooden hair comb to brush your hair. Regular exercising is also one of the important point, but should be done under some good, qualified yoga teacher or instructor for proper guidance; it also releases the stress/ tension in the mind and the body and keeps you FIT and YOUNG!! Medication: Take homoeopathic Rx - Schwabe's Wiesbaden 200/ twice a day for 1 month and revert. Also, use Schwabe's Arnica shampoo and Hair Growth oil regularly as per the condition of your scalp (minimum 3 times a week). After shampooing, use Bakson's Arnica Hair conditioner as well after every head wash. Apart from this, take Follihair tablets (multivitamin) - 1 tab. daily once for 1 month. (N.B.: With the help of homoeopathic medicines, we can only prevent further progress of the hairloss, means it will get arrests in the present condition in case of progressive baldness. But, in case there are areas of baldness which has gone smooth and shiny, you will have to choose an option of Hair Transplant along with theses medications!).

How To Identify If You're Suffering From Delusional Disorder?

M. D. Psychiatry, Diploma in Psychological Medicine-DPM, MBBS
Psychiatrist,
How To Identify If You're Suffering From Delusional Disorder?

Delusional disorder refers to the condition in which an individual experiences non-bizarre delusions that are beliefs in things that aren't actually true. The delusions involve situations that take place in real life like being deceived or stalked, conspired against, etc but in actuality, these situations may be highly exaggerated or not true at all as they involve the misinterpretation of experiences or observations. This health problem tends to take place during the middle or later part of your life and is said to affect women more than men.

What are the symptoms associated with this condition?

There are certain signs that you can look out for to easily identify this condition and there are:

  1. Delusional thoughts lasting one month and above
  2. Lack of schizophrenia symptoms except delusions associated with the olfactory and tactile systems
  3. One's behavior and normal functioning doesn't witness any kind of impairment
  4. Duration of mood symptoms is short compared to the length of the delusions
  5. Disorder is not brought on by the use of substances or any medical condition
  6. Commencement of the disorder can vary from teenage years to later part of adulthood

What causes it to happen?
The root cause of the disorder is still not known, but experts are of the opinion that a variety of biological, genetic, environmental and psychological factors can cause it to occur.

Some of these causes include:

  • Genetics: It's said that this disorder can be passed on from parents to children. Additionally, it's more common in individuals whose family members suffer from schizophrenia or one of its types.
  • Psychological/ environmental: In addition to drug and alcohol abuse, delusional disorder can also be set off by stress.
  • Biological: Abnormalities in certain parts of the brain can lead to this problem. Areas of brain associated with thinking and perception have been found to be connected to delusional symptoms.

BAMS

What are the precautions I have to take when occurrence of pimples and also how to reduce black spots in my face?
Dear, These are the causes of pimples: • excessive sebum production (sebum is oily secretion from the gland). • Due to hormonal imbalance. These are the methods & instructions to avoid pimples & black spots: • To control the sebum secretion you should maintain your hormonal level. Because imbalance in hormone level causes excessive sebum production and causes acne. So do not take stress and do exercise daily such as running, jogging and long breathing exercises. • Use oil free face wash and drink 7 -8 glass of water daily. • Do not touch your pimple because your finger transfer bacteria to it and make it worse. If you touch it then clean your face with water. * Take cucumber and papaya pulp. Mix it well and add 1 tablespoon Turmeric. Make a paste and apply it on face and leave it for 15 minutes. • Use a face pack of fuller's earth (multani mitti) with rose water one time in a day for seven days. It removes toxins from skin. * Take 2 teaspoon of RAKTASHODAK SYRUP of BAIDYANATH company once a day. • Steam your face to open the pores, which in turn clear the skin. Steam your face for a couple of minutes. • use a mild moisturiser for your skin.
