Oral candidiasis is a fungal infection in mouth is caused by a fungus called candida albicans and is a very troublesome diseases, mild cases improvement is faster, taking care of oral hygiene and applying antifungal ointments, fluconazole is the treatment of choice, in more complicated case ampotheracinb is given as antibiotic cove, removal of cause is the first step in treatment and followed by antifungal application and antibiotic as required. Home remedies for thrush are aimed at decreasing risk factors for thrush as well as preventing overgrowth of candida yeast. Brush the teeth with a soft toothbrush. Rinse the mouth with a diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide solution. Rinse the mouth with warm saltwater. Avoid mouthwash as it can alter the normal flora of the mouth. Keep dentures clean and see a dentist if they do not fit correctly. Eat unsweetened yogurt while taking antibiotics. Lactobacillus acidophilus supplements may help maintain a healthy balance of candida. Home remedies that may reduce the discomfort of thrush include drinking cold liquids, or eating frozen or ice treats; eating soft, easy-to-swallow foods; drinking from a straw if the patches are painful. Gentian violet (1%) is a natural treatment that sometimes works as treatment for thrush. It is a dye that kills bacteria and fungi, and it is available without a prescription. Talk to a doctor before using gentian violet. Consult a doctor before using this or any supplement.

Diabetes and Dental Care

MDS - Periodontics
Dentist, Thane
Diabetes and Dental Care

If you have diabetes, make sure you take care of your mouth. People with diabetes are at risk for mouth infections, especially periodontal (gum) disease. Periodontal disease can damage the gum and bone that hold your teeth in place and may lead to painful chewing problems.

The good news is you can keep your teeth and gums healthy. By controlling your blood glucose, brushing and flossing every day, and visiting a dentist regularly, you can help prevent serious problems in your mouth

I am 35 years old. I am suffering from mouth ulcer for last 3 days. Please guide me.
Usually ulcer heals by itself only within 1 week. You can take 'Becosule capsule' once in a day for 1 week for faster recovery. Temporarily you can apply mucopain gel over ulcer for relief..

Is it safe to take B-Complex capsule in case of having mouth ulcer. What can be the best treatment for this.

MDS, BDS

Is it safe to take B-Complex capsule in case of having mouth ulcer.
What can be the best treatment for this.
It is safe but it can not be sole remedy. Sometimes we need to apply topical ointments also for faster healings. Moreover every ulcer has its etiology which first needs to be cared of. Without removing the source of ulcer it can not heal by just taking the b complex capsule.

If you can save a fallen tooth, then do it. Because it can be useful. Try keeping it it place or wraaping it up in a pice of plastic or soaking it in milk before asking for immediate medical attention.

I have dental problem. A very small hole in between two tenths which treatment I need.
•If your cavity in the tooth is caused by decay, your dentist will remove the decayed area and replace it with a filling. •If the pulp inside your tooth is infected, you may need root canal treatment. This procedure involves removing the infected pulp and then inserting a special type of filling to seal the tooth and prevent re-infection.

Brittleness of teeth may be due to various factors: Genetic factors: Weak teeth are sometimes passed on down the generations of a family. People belonging to these families tend to suffer brittle teeth. Dietary habits: Eating too many sugary and acidic foods weakens teeth, and causes them to become brittle. Frequent snacking is also not advisable because the pH level of saliva does not come to its normal levels because of continuous intake of food. Usually, it takes around three to four hours for the effects of enzymes present in the food to reduce and restore optimum pH of saliva. Moreover, high acidic level in the mouth damages the enamel covering the teeth, thereby causing brittleness. Aerated drinks, much intake of citrus fruit juices like lemon, tobacco usage and too much alcohol are some of the other reasons that cause brittleness. Lack of balanced diets leads to vitamin and calcium deficiency in the body. As a result, teeth lose their strength and become brittle. Also, drinking water which contains high levels of fluoride is also one of the major reasons for brittleness. Involuntary habits: Some people involuntarily grind or clench their teeth when they sleep or become emotional. When grinding happens, the outer layer or enamel covering teeth is damaged. This damage paves way to brittleness. Use of excess force while brushing teeth is another common factor for this condition. Medical conditions: Certain diseases, not necessarily of dental origin, lead to brittle teeth. Some of the common diseases that result in this condition are: Periodontal disease: This is a disease of the gum, jaw bones and teeth. If ignored, this disease affects the structure of dentures and strength of the gums. When the disease reaches advanced stages, teeth become brittle Osteoporosis: Osteoporosis is not a disease of dental origin but a condition that affects the overall structure of bones in the body. People with low bone density and inadequate nutrients suffer brittle teeth through weakening of the jaw bones and teeth Nerve changes: In some cases, nerve tissues in the teeth reduce. As a result, nervous activity in the teeth reduces. This leads to brittleness of teeth Kidney diseases: Kidney diseases can lead to bone loss or reduced bone density. Osteoporosis is one of the side effects of some kinds of renal diseases. When kidneys malfunction, bones all over the body become weak. This affects the jaw bone as well. Teeth become loose and brittle. Also, when kidneys do not function optimally, absorption of calcium from food decreases. Teeth do not receive adequate amount of calcium and hence, become brittle. Drugs: Certain kinds of drugs cause brittleness in bones because of the various side effects they cause. Some drugs contain ingredients that reduce calcium absorption in the body. Some drugs also contain high level of fluoride and can lead to brittleness. However, using such drugs for short durations does not cause this problem. The condition is common in people who use these drugs chronically. Aging: Aging can also cause brittleness. Usually, the side effects of different activities, medicines and stress that the teeth undergo cumulate over age and cause brittleness as age advances. Elderly people who follow good dietary habits and avoid unhealthy habits do not suffer from brittleness.

The most common cause for ulcers in mouth is constipation, stress or vitamin deficiency. So start taking vitamin supplements. Reduce your stress level. Switch to healthy n regular diet. Increase intake of raw fruit and vegetables. For local application, use either dologel or mucopain ointment 3-4 times a day.

A major cause of tooth sensitivity is root exposure. Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need cleaning along with desensitizing procedures and / or artificial enamel filling and / or root canal treatment. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person. Until then apply a desensitizing paste (sensodyne tooth paste) on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min until you brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight will be better.
