What is the symptom of dengue? What is the way by which we can protect us from it?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
What is the symptom of dengue? What is the way by which we can protect us from it?
Symptoms include severe joint and muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes, headache, fever, exhaustion, and rash. The presence of fever, rash, and headache (the" dengue triad") is characteristic of dengue fever. Because dengue fever is caused by a virus, there is no specific medicine or antibiotic to treat it. For typical dengue fever, the treatment is directed toward relief of the symptoms (symptomatic treatment). The prevention of dengue fever requires control or eradication of the mosquitoes carrying the virus that causes dengue. There is currently no vaccine to prevent dengue fever.

Headaches: Types, Causes and Treatment

Headaches: Types, Causes and Treatment

Mind your headaches (All about headaches)

Headaches and migraines are one of the most common types of pains that patients can face. There are many types of headaches that may afflict people and there are a number of reasons that can be attributed as their cause.

Let's look at some of the types of headaches and their causes:

Facial headaches - This is an ache, which is usually centered on the face, the crown, and the forehead. In this headache, movements of the head and face may also cause problems.

  • Causes: The main cause for facial headaches tends to be sinusitis, a condition in which the cavities in the skull get blocked. Sinusitis may also happen due to a cold as this has often been accompanied by a runny nose as well.
  • Treatments: The best treatment for this issue would be to treat the underlying condition, i.e. the cold or the blockages. Using the prescribed variety of decongestants and inhalers can vastly improve the situation.

Migraines - This is an intense pain on one side of the head that can last for a few hours to a few days. Most of the pain is sometimes centered behind the eye, and many people report extreme sensitivity to light as well as sound. It can be debilitating to some people who suffer from a severe form of it.

  • Causes: Migraines are one of the most complicated problems to diagnose and there can be a variety of reasons for it. Triggers may include food or lack of it and also be caused by other underlying physiological reasons.
  • Treatments: Although there are certain painkillers, which are available, it is best to consult a doctor to know the root cause and thus, avoid the triggers or take appropriate medicines if necessary.

Tension Headaches - These headaches are induced by periods of stress, anxiety, anger and other mental distresses.

  • Causes: These headaches are a result of stress, which may result in the decrease of the blood flow to the brain due to the stiffening of the head and neck muscles.
  • Treatments: Over the counter drugs such as paracetamol or ibuprofen can help improve them, but it is better to consult a physician before undertaking self-medication.

Cluster Headaches - These are the most potent form of headaches that can be very painful. They usually originate as a piercing pain in the head with pressure on the eye and can even lead eye inflammation, and watery and droopy eyes.

  • Causes: Certain neural functions originating from the hypothalamus can cause this issue and this type of headache may be triggered by alcohol, smoking or other forms of strong smells.
  • Treatments: Generic painkillers may not be able to correct the issue quickly enough and this may require the administering of special injections or nasal sprays. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Pain Management Specialist.

Please don't use word heart block for nasal block. Inhale steam to clear blockages, do gargles with water and salt, drink warm water with a spoon of honey added to it. If still worried get a thorough examination done by ent doctor.

Sir, I am 20 years old and usually have a sneezing problem in the morning. I have tried many medicines but no use. What should I do?

Certified Diabetes Educator, Registered Dietitian (RD), PGDD, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S), General Physician
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Firstly there's no lifelong cure for the common cold. Antibiotics are only effective against infections of throat and are of no use against cold viruses. Over-the-counter (otc) cold preparations won't cure a common cold or make it go away any sooner, and most have side effects. A saltwater gargle 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2tsp turmeric dissolved in a glass of warm water can temporarily relieve a sore or scratchy throat. To help relieve nasal congestion, try saline (pure salt water) nasal drops. If you have a throat infection, or a viral cold then I will prescribe appropriate meds based on your detailed assessment. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

Dear Lybrate user. Phimosis is a congenital narrowing of the opening of the foreskin so that it cannot be retracted. Phimosis is a very common problem. In most of the cases you can clear the problem yourself. Phimosis could cause moderate to severe pain while having vaginal intercourse. Apply oil on your foreskin and on the glans. Move the foreskin forward and back slowly without hurting you much. Because the oil is lubricant, it will be easier than without oil. Do this forward and back movement 20 times several times in a day. Repeat the same every day for around one month. You will get the elasticity and you will be able to retract the foreskin completely. In case if there is no result from the above massage, you can always go for a minor surgical procedure called circumcision. Take care.

I have some rash problem in private part suggest any good cream to me which give quick relif.

B.A.M.S, MD (Ayu.) Kayachikitsa
Ayurveda,
I have some rash problem in private part suggest any good cream to me which give quick relif.
Thanks for contacting with your health concern and since history is limited thus following could be the reason: 1. It could be jock itch (ringworm infection) or balanitis (inflmmation of foreskin or head of penis) 2. It could be pubic lice or scabies infestation 3. Or could be due contact dermatitis or skin infection, so ibefore treating a genital rash your doctor will first need to determine the cause which include physical examination and blood work 4. Initially maintaining a good personnel hygeine, eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly will keep the immune system strong and fight infection and you may buy an OTc (over the counter) hydrocortisone cream which helps with itchy rashes (like itchguard)

A change in diet can help keep the stools regular and soft. Eat more fiber, such as fruit and vegetables, or switching your cereal breakfast to bran. Water is the best drink, so increase water consumption. And avoid caffeine. Losing weight may help reduce the incidence and severity of constipation and the bloody stool. For differentiating the disease the exact diagnosis is to be made and then homeopathic treatment should be started then. For more advice, consult me.

Hello .Premature ejaculation is uncontrolled ejaculation either before or shortly after sexual penetration. It happens with minimal sexual stimulation and before the person wishes. It may result in unsatisfactory sex for both partners. Most cases of PE are not related to any disease and are instead due to psychological factors, including: Sexual inexperience. Novelty of a relationship. Overexcitement or too much stimulation. Relationship stress. Anxiety. Guilty feelings. Depression. Issues related to control and intimacy. Prevention = Stop the stimulation for 30-60 seconds and start again once you feel that you have regained control. Repeat this process 4-5 times, stopping and are sting every time you feel that you are about to have an orgasm. Finally, let the ejaculation occur, so that you can identify the point of no-return. Take homeopathic treatment for complete cure. Consult me.
