I am 19 years old. I have a stye on my upper eyelid. Its has been two months but it does not seem to go. I have tried everything possible. From hot compress to ointments. What should I do?

DOMS, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Hello, if the swelling is there since two months, I doubt that its a stye, probably its a chalazion (painless nodular swelling due to chronic infection). If its small it might dissolve away with regular hot compresses done persistently over a month. If this does not then you might have to consider surgical excision. For time being do not touch the eye frequently and do hot fomentation regularly. Take care.

Sir my left eye lid is flickering continuously from last 20 days and sometimes my left arm is also flickering. I'm having high blood pressure and diabetes too. Few days before I consulted a doctor he said that I'm suffering from depression. He gave me anti-anti - depression tablets. Is anything serious? Sir, Kindly reply soon. regards Mehtab Alam. Age-30.

MBBS, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Hyderabad
As is evident, good control of diabetes & blood pressure is very important. Take adequate measures to reduce stress in your life, in general eyelid flicker could be a sign of tiredness, lack of sleep, overwork, too much travel, inadequate or inappropriate food, and so on. Usually, it is a minor & vague sign of general debility. Correct the above states, if any, in your present lifestyle. In addition, wash your closed eyes gently with cold (not chilled) water, eat well (as appropriate for your diabetes & blood pressure) and get some rest. Inform if there is no improvement with these measures.

I have an eye problem for a long time and using spex for eye irritation and headache, is any other treatment should I take for this?

FPRS, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Pune
Glasses, contact lenses and surgery are the only three options for good vision if you having spectacle power. If you not comfortable with contact lens or glasses, you can plan lasik surgery after a proper prelasik checkup.

My eyes is paining when I see the television tell me something how can I get relief.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
The pain of eyes is due to staining on eyes .While watching TV or using mobile for long intervals continuously, eyes get exhausted. While watching TV/Mobile make sure that the lightening in room is proper and you are at least at a distance of 10 Feet from TV to reduce and negate the effects. You can also reduce the intensity of the TV/Mobile screen by attaching a filter or by getting an eye-friendly screen. Above all, one must try to reduce the amount of TV/Mobile usage or take frequent breaks. Homoeopathic medicine CINELUBE EYE DROPS ( HAPDCO) Pour 2 drops 3 times daily.

Hello ,I have eye sight from my childhood for right eye (7.0), &left eye (6.5). So I want to take lasik operation so I am asking about this treatment. thanking you.

MBBS, DOMS, MS - Ophthalmology, , Fellowship in phacoemusification
Ophthalmologist, Patna
LASIK is refractive surgery to correct myopia ,hypermetropia & astigmatism, refractive surgery also include intraocular ocular lens procedure. For LASIK your eyes must be healthy, if you have persistent dry eyes, LASIK surgery may aggravate this condition resulting in burning sensation & blurring of vision after LASIK.   For LASIK cornea must  have sufficient thickness because in reshaping of cornea, you loose the thickness of cornea & if your cornea is too thin ,you are not  fit case for LASI K.  -1Dof myopic correction consumes  35 micron of corneal thicknes. Average thickness of cornea in Indian is 450 micron to 500 micron& after LASIK there  should be around 300 micron thickness of cornea for safety of eye in future. Pupils are usually large in myopic people who undergo LASIK  operation resulting in side effects such as halos, glares especially in those who drive in night. LASIK for the treatment of high retractive errors are less predictable, because very high amount of myopia could require removal of too much corneal tissue putting at increased risk of Vision complications. LASIK should not be undertaken before 21 years in male & 19 years in female because myopic power increases by that age. You must have stable power before LASIK. There is no upper age limit but one should keep in mind that once you are 40 years old, you may still need reading  glass due to presbyopia changing every two years till you develop cataract in old age. Contraindications for LASIK -degenerative disease, Sjogren syndrome, type one diabetes etc. People who are taking immunosuppressive drugs, must think ten times before undergoing for LASIK surgery. One must go LASIK screening before taking decision for LASIK. One undergoes for LASIK should be fully aware of  potential LASIK complications & should not hide anything from operating surgeon about health.

Tips to Prevent Vision Loss in Elderly People

Cornea Cataract & Lasik

Tips to Prevent Vision Loss in Elderly People

A person is said to have great vision more in the metaphorical way than in the literal sense. However, having both is just so important, especially as the ability to see reduces as a person gets older. Old age comes with its own set of problems, and vision loss is one of them. If kept in check from an early age, however, vision loss can be deferred indefinitely.

While a person's eyesight is likely to deteriorate over the course of his life, there is a lot which can be done in an effort to make sure that this is not the case. To start with, it makes good sense to be regular with eye check-ups. After a person attains the age of sixty, he or she should have a doctor take a look at his or her eyes on a yearly basis. There is no point trying to conserve eye sight if a person is too late in taking corrective action. By paying a visit to the ophthalmologist, a person will get to know the exact problem that he is suffering from.

A good diet which is rich in the nutrients which improve a person's eye sight does go a very long way in the long run. A person should make sure that is diverse enough to take care of the needs of a person and should include grapefruit, strawberries as well as berries and nuts.

One of the main things which can be done in order to preserve the health of a person's eyes until he or she reaches an advanced age is to stop smoking in all forms. As a matter of fact, tobacco leads to cyanide entering the blood stream and this does a lot of damage to the eyes. In fact, quite a few irreversible conditions of the eye are caused due to this.

Exercise is said to be good for a person at any age for a variety of reasons and it is really good for even the eyes, though the link may not be immediately so clear. It reduces the risk of age related degeneration by up to 70 per cent!

What is really interesting about a person's eyes is that they can be signs of trouble in other parts of the body. For example, if a person has blurry vision, they should get checked for diabetes. Also, eyes which do not produce enough natural lubrication can show a risk of rheumatoid arthritis and perhaps even thyroid disease.

All in all, a person's eyesight is so crucial to his or her overall health and wellbeing. We have only one pair of eyes, so we might as well take care of them!

I am 28 year old I am working in the office sometimes my eyes are little pain what I can do.

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi. Usually eye fatigue can be prevented or reduced by making simple changes in your work habits or environment. Make changes to your computer screen, such as: Place the screen 20-26 inches away from your eyes and a little below eye level. Regularly clean off dust and fingerprints from the screen. Smudges on the screen can reduce contrast and increase problems with glare and reflections. Choose screens that tilt and swivel. Consider using a glare filter over your screen. Make changes to your work environment, such as: Change lighting to reduce glare and harsh reflections. Use an adjustable chair. Place a document holder next to your computer screen. Make changes to your work habits, such as: Try the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, look away about 20 feet in front of you for 20 seconds. Post a note that says "Blink" on the computer as a reminder. Take regular breaks from computer work. Take care of your eyes with these steps: Apply a washcloth soaked in warm water to tired, dry eyes (with eyes closed). Use artificial tears to refresh your eyes when they feel dry. To help prevent dry eyes while working indoors, use an air cleaner to filter dust and a humidifier to add moisture to the air. Management: Hold tap water in your flexed palm, dip your one eye closer to the water level, shut and open your eyelids often. Do the same with your other eye. Repeat this whole process 1-2 times more in a day. Give your eyes proper rest. Medication: Instill 2 drops of Euphrasia eye drops twice daily.

Dear lybrate user, red eyes could be because of many reasons but commonly it is due to allergy or infection. You need to visit eye specialist to differentiate between the two as the treatment is different. Also get your eyes checked for any glass power
