Hi. My bone got fracture and got operation 3 days before what to do & what foods should be taken for better recovery thanks.

PGD IN ULTRAASONOGRAPHY, Non invasive cardiology course, MD - Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Narnaul
Immediately After Surgery Diet After Bone-Fracture Surgery Initially, eat bland foods like crackers and broth. Before your surgery -- if it wasn't an emergency -- you probably weren't permitted to have any food or drink. For a few days after surgery, you may have no appetite. Before your discharge from the hospital, you will be required to consume liquids and possibly a light snack -- such as crackers. Initially, stick with bland foods, such as crackers and broth. Balanced Diet Diet After Bone-Fracture Surgery A balanced diet can help you maintain a healthy body weight weight and your wellness as you recover from bone surgery. The National Academy of Sports Medicine recommends 2,000 calories daily if you're not dieting. If you're attempting to shed excess pounds, get at least 1,200 calories if you're a woman and 1,500 to 1,800 calories if you're a man; eating too few calories can slow your metabolism and the healing process. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and aim to eat a balanced snack or meal every three to four hours for maintained energy. A balanced diet should include a variety of healthy foods, such as lean meats, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products and whole grains. Vitamin D and Calcium Diet After Bone-Fracture Surgery Egg yolks are a good source of vitamin D. Vitamin D can facilitate bone healing, according to Civesta Medical Center. It helps your body absorb calcium, which is necessary for bone growth, healing and development. Without adequate amounts of vitamin D and calcium, your body will take calcium from your bones. This can delay healing. Vitamin D can be found in fish, egg yolks, margarine and fortified milk. Top calcium sources include canned salmon, fortified milk and yogurt, almonds and cooked, dark-green vegetables. Considerations Diet After Bone-Fracture Surgery Be sure to eat enough protein. Get an adequate amount of protein to speed healing of your incision. The amount you need is based on your weight. The National Academy of Sports Medicine suggests multiplying your weight by .36 to determine how much protein you should get daily. For example, if you weigh 130 pounds, you should get 46.8 grams of protein. Talk to your doctor before beginning any vitamin or calcium supplements after bone-fracture surgery. Exercise is also an important part of staying healthy. Although bone-fracture surgery can drastically limit participation in physical activities, talk to your doctor about permissible activities. Depending on the nature of your injury, you may be allowed to engage in low-impact activities or do physical therapy exercises as you heal.

It is common to get sun burn on prolong exposure to uv rays. Always prevention is better than cure. I suggest avoid sun exposure between 10 a. M. And 4 p. M. Wear tightly woven clothing that covers you, including your arms and legs. Consider wearing clothing or outdoor gear specially designed to provide sun protection. No matter what your skin type is, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an spf of 15 or greater. Wear sunglasses when outdoors. Homoeopathy recommendation: apply berberis aquifolium-q externally to your face, silicea 6x 4 tab/daily thrice for a month, acid nitric 30- 6 pills/daily thrice for a month.

Hello lybrate users- its due to excessive vata-pitta prakopa happened due to your late night schedule. I always suggest my patient not to wake up late at night. It causes insomnia, loss of mental alertness, lathargyness, and dementia up to some extent. Try this ayurvedic routine to recover safely from your symptoms- a) massage with sheer bala oil daily in the morning before bath. B) massage your foot soles with plain cows ghee daily for 1o minutes before going to bed. C) use mahabhrngraj hair oil for head massage daily. D) take a glass of milk with one sweet at bed time. E) avoid day sleeping as you might feel drowsy in the morning due to lack of sleep. You will surely see the change from first week of treatment.

Dengue fever symptoms include high-grade fever, severe headache and pain behind the eyes?

The dengue fever season which is usually synonymous with the monsoons in India is showing no signs of abating. The numbers are much higher in cities like Delhi and Mumbai, whose already overworked hospitals and civic bodies are struggling to contain the ailment and treat the ill.

Dr Arvind Aggarwal, senior consultant, internal medicine at the Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute, Delhi has something to say about the disease, why it won?t go away and how people should pay more attention to the onset of the fever:

Is there any significant change in the disease trend this year? Are the elderly or people with lower immunity likelier to suffer from dengue?

This year we are seeing a large number of healthy young adults, especially teenagers suffering from the ailment. The reason for this is that they are more likely to travel or stay outdoors as compared to aged people or immune compromised people. Normally, every family tries to keep their homes free of mosquitoes and maintain hygiene when people go out, they are likelier to be bitten by dengue-carrying mosquitoes. (Read: Dengue fever: Symptoms, medication and prevention)

What are the symptoms of dengue fever? How can people recognise it early?

The most glaring symptoms are high-grade fever, chills, severe headache and pain behind the eyes (retro-orbital pain), severe headaches and body aches. After the second day of onset of the aforementioned symptoms, they may even start vomiting or feel extremely restless. In many patients we can diagnose the disease in a day itself, but in some cases people stay home when they have fever and self-medicate. Only when it becomes very severe and they are not able to bear the headaches and retro-orbital pain do they come to a doctor.

It is important that we recognise the possibility of a patient possibly suffering from dengue. Even doctors should take these complaints seriously. This is important because if it is diagnosed early the complications are much lower and can be handled effectively. (Read: Can papaya leaves help cure dengue?)

Should all patients presenting with high fever be aggressively tested for dengue?

Yes, it is essential that physicians have a high suspicion of dengue fever, especially in these two months when it is epidemic.

What are the tests that are done to detect the presence of dengue?

A test called NS1 (a test for the presence of the viral antigen) and other tests for the antibodies against the dengue virus can be done. The NS1 test is more accurate on the first seven days of the infection. If the patient comes to us after seven days, then we perform serological tests, where we test for the presence of theantibodies against the virus. Since these antibodies are produced by the body only after five to seven days, they are more effective. The most important thing here is that this antigen can be tested at any point during the infection, unlike in malaria where the test yields proper results only while the patient is having fever. Of course, the tests give better results at the peak of the disease.

What complications can dengue fever lead to?

Patients may suffer from very low blood pressure and very low platelet count. The patient?s also likely to bleed from various orifices like the nose and mouth and they might even notice blood in their urine. When it gets worse, the patient is likely to suffer from dengue haemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome.

Hi sir, my father 58 yrs old. He is suffering with cough regular fever and lymphnode and breathing problem since two months. We have taken soo many medications with lot of tests. Finally they mada IGE test and IGE levels are greater than 5000. How many days will take to reduce it ?

You need to take healthy diet, drink more water. Don’t drink water before meals. Drink milk. Drinking whole milk to quench thirst is a simple way to get in more high-quality protein and calories. Try weight gainer shakes. If you are really struggling then you can try weight gainer shakes. These are very high in protein, carbs and calories. Use bigger plates. Definitely use large plates if you are trying to get in more calories, as smaller plates cause people to automatically eat less. Add cream to your coffee. This is a simple way to add in more calories. Take creatine. The muscle building supplement creatine monohydrate can help you gain a few pounds in muscle weight. Get quality sleep. Sleeping properly is very important for muscle growth.

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Please don't have any unnecessary misconceptions. A man will be able to produce semen throughout his life period and whatever masturbation you do, semen will be produced. Masturbation is normal, natural and never unhealthy. Even animals do masturbate. As a human being, you are also an animal. Every animal has sexual instinct because they are designed to reproduce. Human being also has sexual instinct and therefore he needs to satisfy sexual instinct. Therefore, to satisfy sexual instinct, a man or woman, masturbates. In any case, masturbation is never unhealthy or will never affect your physical or sexual health or it cannot affect your future sex life and the ability to have children. Masturbation cannot affect your growth or cause pimples or cause hair fall or cause shrinkage of penis or loss of vital nutrients etc. You should try to reduce the masturbation frequency to thrice a week and continue masturbation. You can be sure; there are no side effects to masturbation if you are able to restrict it to thrice a week. Jogging and physical exercise are always good to keep you fit and stop worrying about sex and allied thinking. I suggest online sex counseling and therapy. Take care.
