Kidney Health - 6 Tips To Keep Them Healthy!

Kidney Health - 6 Tips To Keep Them Healthy!

The main job of the kidneys is to balance the electrolytes in the blood and maintain the pH homeostasis. The kidneys also remove waste products from the blood and boost your metabolism.
To prevent injuries and diseases in the kidneys, you can undertake the following steps to keep your kidneys healthy:

  1. Hydrate yourself: You need to drink sufficient water to improve kidney function and the ability of the kidneys to flush out the toxins from the body. Drinking at least 6-8 glasses of water will help in keeping your kidneys fighting fit.
  2. Eat healthy: The kidneys need to be healthy to perform their regular function. In order to keep them healthy, you need to eat the right kind of foods for sufficient nutrition. Include foods such as watermelons, oranges, parsley in your diet for better kidney function.
  3. Cut down on your salt intake: Consuming too much salt increases the quantity of sodium in your meals. It increases the sodium content in your blood and increases your blood pressure which might lead to the formation of kidney stones.
  4. Quit smokingIf you want to take care of your kidneys, you must quit smoking immediately. Smoking harms the blood vessels and hampers the flow of blood to the kidneys. When the flow of blood to the kidneys is obstructed, they cannot function properly. Excessive smoking also increases the chances of high blood pressure and kidney cancer.
  5. Urinate when you need to: Filtration is the most important kidney function as the wastes and water are eliminated through the bladder. Although your bladder is well-equipped to hold in urine for a long time, you start feeling the urge to urinate once it is filled. If you resist the urge, your bladder starts stretching more than necessary and affects the filtration function of the kidneys.
  6. Engage in physical exercise: A lot of medical practitioners believe that obesity and kidney issues are very closely linked. Being obese increases the chance of kidney injuries. Thus, engaging in some form of physical exercise is advisable as it keeps your weight under check and releases anti-stress hormones.

7 Symptoms Of Prostatitis!

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, DNB - Urology/Genito - Urinary Surgery
Urologist, Bangalore
7 Symptoms Of Prostatitis!

Prostatitis is a very common infection of the prostate. However, it is worth to note that prostatitis can also be an inflammation of the prostate without infection. Only 5 to 10 percent of prostatitis is caused by bacterial infection. Prostate cancer does not normally have its chances increased by prostatitis. There are several forms of prostatitis, including acute bacterial prostatitis, chronic bacterial prostatitis and chronic nonbacterial prostatitis (which is also known as chronic pelvic pain syndrome ).

The exact cause for prostatitis is not known, but here are some factors which increase its risk, particularly acute bacterial prostatitis.

Possible causes:

  1. Medical instrumentation: Putting an instrument like a urinary catheter may well cause prostatitis.
  2. Rectal intercourse: This is basically another name for anal sex.
  3. Abnormal urinary tract: The urinary tract comprises of the bladders, kidneys, ureters and urethra. If any one of these organs gets infected, then prostatitis is much more likely.
  4. Bladder infection: A bladder infection may well spread to the prostate.

Symptoms
Prostatitis has a variety of symptoms. Here are the most common symptoms of prostatitis.

  1. Constant need of urination: This is one of the most common symptoms of prostatitis.
  2. Difficulty when urinating: Just like the constant need of urination, difficulty urinating is also a sign that you may have prostatitis.
  3. Pain while urinating: This is because the prostate gland is a part of your urinary tract and if it does not work properly, there will be pain.
  4. Chills and fever: This is a rarer symptom, but may indicate prostatitis if it is coupled with the other symptoms.
  5. Pain in perineal area and genital organs: If you are experiencing pain in genital organs, than it may indicate prostatitis.
  6. Painful ejaculations or relief of perineal pain after ejaculations: If you are having painful ejaculation or the pain arises after ejaculation, then it may be due to prostatitis.
  7. Hematospermia: Pinkish or brownish semen.

If these symptoms are persistent or bothersome, then a proper consultation is required. Evaluation includes physical examination along with few simple tests. This can be followed by proper treatment for cure or relief of symptoms.

Reasons Behind Benign Prostate Hyperplasia!

M Ch Urology, MBBS, MS - Urology
Urologist, Kolhapur
Reasons Behind Benign Prostate Hyperplasia!

Benign Prostrate Hyperplasia (BPH) is a condition which results in the enlargement of the prostate gland. The prostrate grand is situated near the Urethra (a tube which helps flush out the urine from the bladder). Generally, the chance of developing BPH increases after one crosses the age of 50. But it is yet unknown as to why some men experience more severe symptoms than others.

Causes of BPH
This condition generally occurs because of old age and affects almost all men above the age of 75. It occurs because of the various hormonal changes and changes in cell growth that the body goes through, as one becomes old. Sometimes BPH can set in due to genetics. If BPH sets in due to genetically reasons, it usually is quite severe and affects men before they reach 60.

Symptoms of BPH
Quite a few men who develop BPH, experience no symptoms at all. But when symptoms of BPH, known as lower urinary tract symptoms (LUT) start, they can be either mild or very severe. The severity of the symptoms is not related to the extent of the enlargement. Many a times men with only a mild enlargement complain about severe symptoms, while men with a highly enlarged prostate gland have not complained about any discomfort faced.

Symptoms of BPH tend to worsen due to cold weather and also because of physical and emotional overexertion. There are certain medicines, which should be avoided if you suffer from BPH, as they have a tendency to worsen your symptoms, for example diphenhydramine, pseudoephedrine, oxymetazoline spray and other antidepressants.

The symptoms of BPH are related to bladder emptying and issues with bladder storage.

Symptoms related to the urine drainage from the bladder are:

  1. Strain while urinating
  2. Weak urine flow
  3. Some dribbling after urination
  4. Sudden urge to urinate
  5. Pain while urinating

Symptoms related to storage of urine in the bladder are:

  1. Waking during the night to urinate
  2. Urinating frequently during the day and at night
  3. Sudden urge to urinate, which may be hard to control

It however, has to be kept in mind that these symptoms may not primarily occur due to prostate enlargement, but are the result of other conditions like urinary tract infections, prostatitis, prostate cancer, neurological disorders and even diabetes. Thus, it is essential that you visit a doctor and get the cause for these symptoms diagnosed properly.

One such condition caused by extreme temperatures is the heat headache, which is a result of prolonged heat exposure. When there is excessive heat, the body can end up reacting with heat strokes, dehydration and headaches, among many other conditions. Thankfully, a holistic approach like homeopathy has the exact solution for such kind of problem. Read on to know more!

Dear Lybrate User, Masturbation should not be done for more than twice in a week. Frankly speaking, there is no basic difference between masturbation and sexual intercourse. In both the cases orgasm occurs at the point of ejaculation of sperm due to continuous mechanical stimulation of the shaft of penis by rubbing. Now you may wonder why there is so much taboo about masturbation. Let’s take a inner view of the post-ejaculatory state of human body Just after ejaculation of sperm a sudden decrease in the amount of TESTOSTERONE hormone occurs. This TESTOSTERONE hormone plays an important role in metabolism & muscle growth. Daily Masturbation leads to a chronic decrease in the TESTOSTERONE production as a result of which the metabolism process of body becomes slow. This internal slow metabolism is externally manifested as muscle loss, weakness, fatigue etc. So, it is evident why masturbating too much is prohibited. It is often seen that if a person grows a habit of daily masturbation from young age his blood TESTOSTERONE level becomes quite low than other people. This TESTOSTERONE hormone plays an important role in the development of body as well as sperm production. In fact because of this TESTOSTERONE hormone the male sexual characters grow in a human body. Low TESTOSTERONE may also lead to complete absence of the morning erection which is often experienced on waking up from sleep in morning. Decrease in TESTOSTERONE in blood often results in decreased sperm production. So it is advisable not to masturbate for more than twice in a week. Since the male sexual system has developed for reproduction it is better to conserve your sexual power for intercourse & it would not be good if you lose your sexual power by excess masturbation. Addiction to masturbation denotes that you are continuously indulged in sexual thoughts. This type of thoughts is common in people who live a sedentary life. If you really have a sedentary life-style you should get yourself out from it immediately. Socialize yourself. Do some physical exercise daily. Drink a lots of water. Create a routine of your daily schedule & maintain it. Stop watching porn in case you have developed a habit of watching it.

As you are suffering from high blood sugar with high BP along with increased creatinine it is better to start with rapid insulin both every breakfast, lunch, dinner and at bed time lantus can be taken according to your blood sugar levels, after getting near normal sugar levels with creatinine levels then you can take tablet with minimal dose of insulin. This line of management will improve your overall general condition. Do not forget to follow timely food intake with reduced salt and oil along with proper physical activity. You should check blood sugars with glucometer before breakfast, lunch and dinner accordingly insulin dose to be planned, whenever you get low sugar that to be corrected with some snacks like, Marie lite biscuits and other easily digestible food, next dose of insulin should be reduced one or 2 units of insulin. I think this management will give good improvement. All the best.
