Hello. . Eye redness is most often due to swollen or dilated blood vessels. This makes the surface of the eye look red. There are many causes of a red eye or eyes like infection, allergy. Foreign body in eyes. Some are medical emergencies and some are a cause for concern, but not an emergency. Others are nothing to worry about. Consult your local eye specilist to see what is the cause.

My 2 months son's right eye watering from birth. His eye looks small. Please advise.
It's due to blockade of the nasolacrimal duct. It takes 6 to 12 months to open up. You must do massaging from the inner angle of the nose downwards morning and evening 20 to 30 times a day.

Dear lybrate user, red eyes could be because of many reasons but commonly it is due to allergy or infection. You need to visit eye specialist to differentiate between the two as the treatment is different. Also get your eyes checked for any glass power. also sometimes it takes longer to get cure, ,,so continue medicines as per your eye doctors prescription and follow up with him

Hi I am rajat I am 21 years old boy. I am eye night time not working and any item no seeing.

Hi I am rajat I am 21 years old boy. I am eye night time not working and any item no seeing.
Hi. Hi. Night blindness is a condition that makes it difficult to see in low light. The human eye got a very sophisticated system which can function from very dark to very bright light. But in the case of night blindness, the eyes fails to adapt to darkness. Night blindness can be an early sign of vitamin A deficiency, often the result of a diet lacking in vegetables containing beta-carotene, which the body can make into vitamin A. A lack of zinc can reduce retinol dehydrogenase, an enzyme needed to help vitamin A work in the eye. Zinc helps night blindness in those who are zinc-deficient. Most people don’t get enough zinc in their diets. Vitamin A is found naturally in many foods: cod liver oil, liver, sweet potato, carrot, broccoli, butter, kale, spinach, pumpkin, Cheddar cheese, egg, apricot, papaya, mango, pea, milk, tomatoes, seaweed Get your eyes tested from an Opthalmologist. Share the report with me.

A year after an accidental scratch on the inside of my eyelid, I still have pain sometimes. Can this be treated?

MBBS, MS - Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
You should first have your eye examined before getting to final diagnosis. Injury might range simple to severe which one can see only on thorough eye exam. You can try some lubricating drops ( for symptomatic relief), for the mean time till you visit an eye specialist.

Red eye has many causes. You have to see if it is associated with blurring of vision, pain, discharge and other complaints. But commonly its allergic or infective in origin ie allergic or infective conjunctivitis. Which has simple treatment protocol. But still its wise to see an ophthalmologist for a thorough slit lamp examination to rule out other differentials for red eye.

My 5 year kid got heavy redness in his left eye. The eye was swollen and tears were coming slightly. The doctor suggested microscopic scraping citing holy color entering in the eyes. He was normal all these days post holy. Not sure whether the diagnosis is correct. Should we go for the treatment suggested as it looks rather painful from what he described

Phaco Development Program, Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology, DNB Ophtalmology, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Mysore
If there are any particles stuck to the cornea then the irritation will persist until it is removed. And holi colours these days have many chemicals which is not good for the eye. A definitive answer is difficult to give without examining the child. I suggest to trust your doctor if he has a good reputation.

Hi. I have a few suggestions for you regarding the usage of computers, mobile phones and books. Follow the rule of" 20" this means that every 20 minutes, take a gap of 20 seconds, blink your eyes actively 20 times and focus at an object which is minimum 20 feet away. This will help in relieving your eyes from the continuous strain that is caused due to staring. Staring at the computer continuously causes us to subconsciously blink less than normal. This causes the tear film on the surface of the eye to dry up. The result of this is pain, discomfort, etc. Another suggestions regarding the usage of computers is to maintain a proper posture. The computer must be positioned at the same height as your eye level. The neck should not be inadvertently flexed or extended. Roughly, an angle of 90 degrees should be maintained between your upper body and thighs. Likewise, a similar angle (90 degrees) should be maintained between your lower legs and thighs. Also the angle between your hands and arms should be roughly 90 degrees. This is the healthy ergonomic way of sitting while using a computer. Maintenance of proper posture would help in further relieving the symptoms of eye discomfort and pain. All these suggestions may take a while to sink in and imbibe in your routine. Once followed, they are sure to work wonders for you. Hope my suggestions help you. Take care. Cheers.

Mr. Please get your eye checked, particularly to rule out involvement of retina (diabetic retinopathy). It is urgent, so do not delay. It is an eye examination done with dilatation of pupil so go to a good eye hospital in your town and get the eye tested. Another important thing is that see that blood sugar levels are maintained near normal to avoid complications of diabetes. Fasting should be 1round 100 mg and pp 150 to 160 mg and hba1c%<7.
