Hello doctor. My age is 21. I have pain in my left breast since 7-8 days. Pehle bhi pain hua hai lekin wo bas 1 din he rahta tha. hamesha esa hota he rehta tha bas 1 din. Mujhe lagta tha ki heart me pain hai. Gastric problem hogi isliye jyada dhani ni diya par abhi feel ho raha h ki problem breast me hai. Thoda sa bhi left breast me pressure pad raha hai ya kuch touch ho raha hai toh pain ho raha hai. What should I do. Is this symptom of breast cancer. Should I consult a doctor. Please give some advice.
Hello lybrate-user. Pain in breast is a common phenomenon in ladies, especially young ladies in reproductive age group. That means the age in which ladies can become pregnant. Due to hormonal changes, there are certain changes that happen in breast also, leading to heaviness and dragging pain. Sometimes it is more on one side. The other cause of breast pain could be breast cancer. Usually it is associated with other breast complaints like a lump, discharge from nipple, skin ulcer etc. Although, in your age without any other complaints it is highly unlikely that it is breast cancer but cannot be ruled out 100%, only based on history. There are other rare causes of breast pain, which your surgeon will rule out on examination. So I would strongly suggest to go and visit a breast surgeon.

Is it possible to know now whether I am going to get some disease like cancer or something else in the future? If there are any such tests then how much do they cost approximately.
Prediction of getting a disease is difficult task. There are a few tests available which tell you about disease you might be more prone to procure than other individuals, but how much more is difficult to say. Such genetic tests are available with few labs in major cities. Cost can vary from 15 to 20k. But as of now, in mg opinion, it is better to spend time, energy, mind and money on. Keeping a good health rather than finding the rare possibility of disease one may have. Also one may procure a disease that is not found out on genetic test, because the validity and efficacy of such tests is still under studied and in its infancy.

Well, technically it can be amputed. But what is really important, is whether it is really indicated and have other techniques of management been used. Management of lymphedema consists of good amount of exercises, physiotherapy, specific nutritional changes and care of the involved part. Lymphedema is graded into 4 grades. The treatment of grade 4, that is severe form of lymphedema is to remove excess tissue and resuture the defects. This causes decreased weight, swelling and functional improvement. You should talk to your treating clinicians about the surgeries for lymphedema, other than amputation.

Hello. Whether a patient receives chemotherapy or not in case of breast cancer will totally depend on the stage of disease at presentation to the doctor. If your doctor has prescribed chemotherapy, there are very good chances that it is mandatory. There are very few but well identified instances when chemotherapy is either not required or can be avoided safely or avoided in view of risk of side effects being more possible than the benefit. Other than stage, the things that influence this decision, are age, any other diseases like diabetes or high blood pressure, etc. The biology of cancer e. G. If er, pr positive disease and whether the disease has already spread but not causing any functional harm. Such a decision has to be taken by a well learned and well experienced doctor, along with an informed decision. From patient. I can guide more only with more of patients details.

My girlfriend has a lump on breast, this was like a big 1 Rupee coin, this is ok? I heard many people have that, also I hard that this is symptoms of breast cancer . What to do.
Lumps in breast can be of various types and their occurrence depends on the age of woman. I would assume for the sake of answering the question, that your girlfriend is anywhere between 20 and 30 years of age. This is an age where 9 out of 10 breast lumps are noncancerous. But yet a possibility of cancer cannot be completely ruled out. Every month woman's body prepares her for a pregnancy and there are hormonal ups and downs. Such changes are seen in breasts also. These changes are usually temporary unless a pregnancy occurs. But sometimes these changes persist and can be felt as a lump or generalized lumpiness. If the lump is cancerous it may be associated with growth of lump, nipple discharge, redness, lumps in armpit etc. To know exactly what it is, it is better to consult a surgeon, who will examine her, get a sonography of breasts and if the surgeon thinks it is necessary, a price might be removed from lump and checked under microscope for sure diagnosis. I hope this helps. See a surgeon.

Hello my wife has pain in her breast in left side. Like muscle catch. When she lift anything from left hand she gets pain. And when she takes deep breath she gets pain. Only In left side below her Breast.
The way you have described your wife's pain, it is unlikely, although not impossible, to be due to any disease in breast. If it would have been due to breast disease, other brest complaints like lump, heaviness, skin changes, blood or pus discharge, might have been present. But nothing can be said surely unless a doctor examines her. So it will be better to see a doctor relating to muscles and bone diseases, (orthopedician), to rule out cause of pain originating in the wall of the chest which lies below the breast. He will suggest solution as well as if a breast surgeon is to be seen or not. Hope this helps.

Hello lybrate-user. Your question is important but a lil vague. I would see to it tht I help you as much as possible through my answer. Cancer can cause symptoms because of two things. Either due the under functioning of an organ where the cancer has started (local) or due to under functioning of an organ where the cancer has spread (distant) or some generalized complaints. Local complaints depend on organ involved. For the organs which are beneath skin it usually presents as lump. Like breast cancer, thyroid cancer, cancers of soft tissue, etc. When the organ is deep seated it mainly interferes with its primary functions and hence the symptoms. For example, stomach cancer will cause indigestion, heaviness in upper abdomen, bloody vomitus or black stools. Cancer of intestine will cause change in bowel habits or bleeding in stools. Liver cancer may cause jaundice. Brain tumor can cause vomiting, fits. Headaches, etc. A complete picture is quite big and out of scope for this communication. Distant spread usually causes problems based on organ involved, similar to local. But possibility of multiple sites involved at the same time remains high. Bone spread causes excess unressolving pains or fractures. Spread to lung can cause cough and blood in sputum. And so on. Some general complaints are, weight loss, loss of appetite, fatigue and looking pale. Most, if not all, oral cancers are caused by tobacco chewing. Cancer of cervix, a part of uterus is caused by infection with human papilloma virus, which spreads with unprotected sexual contact. These two are preventable cancers. Rest of the cancers are not preventable per se. But if detected early can be taught well. Early detection solely depends on being aware of cancers common to one's age group and respect any unusual change in body habit which persists for long. So. Eat healthy, drink loads of healthy liquids, breathe loads of fresh air with the help of pranayam, exercise well and regular. Which will help keeping cancer a little away and at the same time, if unfortunately this unpredictable guest makes an appearance, a good health is important to sustain the treatments, helping one to get disease free as fast and as long as possible. Thanks.

Cancer occurring in people which are not using tabacoo and alcoholic substance what's the reason behind this?
Tobacco and alcohol are causes of a few of many cancers. Only nails and hair don't get cancer. Rest all organs get cancers. The basic reason for a cancer is a genetic mutation that is defect in genes that either causes excess multiplication or prevent natural death of cells. Such an uncontrolled growth is cancer. Why these genetic mutations occur is difficult to decipher and no one cause can be blamed for it. But there are risk factors. Like no pregnancy or a delayed one is a risk factor for breast cancer. Infection by human papilloma virus can cause cancers of cervix, anal canal, oral cavity, etc. Exposure to radiation can cause cancers. Exposure to environmental toxins and uv rays from sun can cause cancers.

Breast pain or mastalgia is a common complaint in women of reproductive age group. That is the childbearing age group. Due to effects of estrogen and progesterone, breasts become heavy and tender. Which can be perceived as pain. But this pain is usually just before the periods. Otherwise breast pain can be a symptom of lumps in breast. These lumps can cause dragging pain. These lumps could be non cancerous or cancerous. In this age group, 9 out of 10 lumps are benign that is non cancerous. A thorough history and a detailed physical examination is pivotal and usually conclusive. If required a sonohraphy breast could be done. Although very rare breast pain due to a cancer in breadt is still possible for this early age group. Keeping all this in mind, seeing a breast consultant appears the best choice and then after age of 20 start a monthly breast self exam.

How cancer occurs and how can we know that. What are the tips to identify and how we can cure that. Is there any cure for cancer?
Cancer is a manufacturing defect when new cells are being formed. But this defect has a unique capacity to defy the body's immunity and multiply uncontrollably. When our body's systems are constantly renewing themselves after wear and tear by creating new cells, sometimes somethings go wrong and a defective cell is formed. Body's immunity identifies a bad cell and removes it. But when this step is skipped they keep on growing first locally in some organ and then by spreading through either lymph channels or blood stream. Based on whether the cells are growing at one place or have spread to other places the symptoms change. Locally it is either due to any lump / swelling of crores of cancer cells or due to intereference of these cells in the organ's function. For example cancer in liver cannot be easily felt from above as swelling, but it can cause symptoms like indigestion or jaundice due to interference in liver's function of helping digestion. A breast cancer on the other hand usually presents as a lump in breast or axilla. The best way a person can do, is to identify and respect all the symptoms they have, which persist or are unusual. Some good habits like breast self examination are useful in identifying a symptomless early stage cancer. Cure is a word which is used with a very high caution. Cancer is defined by two most important characteristics - metastasis i. E. Spreading to other places different than site/organ of origin, and recurrence. Few cancer cells usually remain dormant after completion of initial treatment and then re grow after some time. There are many reason and factors helping it or acting against it. So cure is a word usually not used in cancer. And that's why patients are kept on strict surveillance after treatment for 5-10 years. Experts in medical fraternity believe that a patient surviving for more than 5 years may be called cured. But there are many patients who recur with same disease even after 5 years, 10 years even more than that. The goal of treatment of cancer is to improve survival and give best quality of life possible to each patient. In medicine always is always wrong and never is never right.
